better suited for a truck Seems to be made well but it's very heavy, never going on my drz400s. It's still in the package, return mail would be about half of purchase price. I'm keeping it as a reminder not to make quick decisions on long term use items. Bracket weighs all most as much as a 1.75 RotoPax full of fuel.Could bolt it to the wall and mount a vise to it, it's that tough I'm going to carry rotopax on rear rack when needed. June 15, 2015
off brand use I bought this and bolted an ammo box onto it, then onto my bike as a DIY side pannier. Works pretty good, although I could only do 1 side, but hey, GS's are supposed to be asymmetrical. Total cost was like $80 with this bracket, and the ammo box I got at a surplus store is completely water tight. Took it to Mendocino in a pretty good storm, only thing that did stay dry. Amazing Bracket This is a steel, pretty thick and severely heavier than expected. The mounting screws that came with it are "ok" however run over to Home Depot and buy some round headed METRIC headed screws with washers, lock washers and nylon lock nuts. Metric because not everyone carries those around. Surely everyone has philips and flat head screw drivers though. I am a paranoid guy so I put like 12 screws in them. The "2" screws holding the Rotopax mounting system does the job. However I drilled two more holes and added 2 more. Why not? Kind of confused why the holes didn't align for 4 screws. Probably for other units or systems? I also recommend you saw off the screw ends and make indents in the end, so the nut won't come wiggling off. That or a thief wouldn't be able to easily unscrew it and run off with your $60 gas pack. Maybe I am paranoid or just over cautious. Either way, someone is going to have to work their butt off to steal my stuff :-p May 27, 2014
