A nice CE level 1 back protector
I bought this to put in a Vanson jacket and it fits without any issue. It is fairly thin and appears to have pretty decent ventilation. It's about as tall as a regular Knox back protector, but isn't as wide.
Since it is only CE level 1 I won't give it anything more than four stars. Especially, since for a little more you can get a SAS-TEC CE level 2 protector...Granted, the SAS-TEC is thicker and doesn't vent as well.
So, basically, it is an upgrade to whatever piece of foam the jacket manufacturer used. It's thin, light, comfortable, and has decent airflow.

... it's "armor" padding
Cool. So this is the back pad for Roland Sands Jackets. It fits perfectly (almost like it was designed for RS jackets ... ?). It's not one piece and it's not solid plastic... Not sure if you have those expectations, but it's a soft absorband rubber material that's in 3 layers I believe (each layer being ~.25in). They flex and fit into the pocket as designed.

Great protection!
Bought this to originally fit in my Kriega backpack and then put it into the back of my RSD Barfly. I played with a few different other armors including the Icon D30 and compared to that, this is much more comfortable, isn't as hard to the touch as the D30. I would much rather prefer using these than the D30 in my backpack or jackets.

Awesome Armour!
Best armour I have used yet! Don't even know it is in the jacket. Really flexible and has already survived a crash. Thinking about buying more to put into other jackets I have.

Recommended!
I bought the whole set, in order to put them into my RSD jacket. It is pretty lightweight, good looking, and comfortable. The air flows nicely through it and, although it seems it could, I intend on not finding if it would protect my should I hit the ground.

Very functional
The armor fits perfectly in the Roland Sands jacket I do not even feel that its there but comforted knowing in the event I went down I would have a decent level of protection.

Which side faces out (faces the leather), and which side faces your back?
Yong B on Nov 18, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The side NOT shown in the picture faces your body. The side with the label, as you see in the picture, faces the world behind you.
How does this armor compare to D30? And could you modify D30 armor to replace this?
Christopher H on Jun 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I think D30 armour is a better choice for increased protection...the R.S. armour is definitely good quality and way more breathable for staying cool.

When I purchased the R.S. back protector I also purchased Icon D30 shoulder & elbow armour for my R.S. Tracker jacket.

The combo together works well.

I hope this helps!!!
How does this back protector compare to D30?
A shopper on Jun 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: In my opinion this protector seems as though it offers more protection than the D30. It's got a substantial feel to it, if that makes sense. To me the D30 feels 'squishy'. This protector does not make me sweat excessively and gives me the feeling that I've got my spine adequately protected.
