Good size and works well. I bought these pants to wear over my khakis when I ride to work. They do a great job and fit is great, because I bought one size up from my pants size. I can still wear the with no liner and they can velcro tight. I've also worn them as snow pants and they are incredibly warm. I haven't needed the liner and my khakis on at the same time, but I rarely ride below 30 degrees. They are more water resistent than water proof. They do a 99% job of keeping water out, except at the knee expansion points for some reason. But, just remember, its raining... You are gonna get wet. Suck it up, or dont ride and sell your bike. I love these pants and wear them every day I ride when it's below 45 degrees. The armour is annoying, so I took it out. My one wish, is that the pant legs were easier to get on and off with my boots on. But since I change shoes at work, it's not that big of a deal. All-in-all they are worth the money. Waste of Money Overall I bought these Taos pants specifically for Winter riding as they are advertised as 'waterproof' and they are anything but waterproof! They're not even close to water resistant, in fact, if I had to rate their water absorbent qualities, I'd give it a 10/10! Bang for Buck - Complete waste of money Style - The pictures look great right? Well the actual fabric is somewhat blue in appearance rather than the grey colour advertised in the photos. Not cool. Comfort - The Taos pants are comfortable to wear when riding but the lower knee pads are an annoyance when walking around for longer distances. When sizing, I typically wear a 34' sized pants so I ordered the Taos in 34' with the intention of removing the inner lining allowing them to fit over my everyday pants and this worked nicely. If you intend to utilize the inner lining, then order the Taos one size up to accomodate for the extra bulk. Protection + Durability - I cannot rate the protection in terms of accident performance as thankfully this has not occurred. However the knee pads do not sit correctly with your own anatomy, as the pads are too low. - In regards to the weather elements, the very first ride I wore them on, it rained only lightly and I was soaked through the Taos, through my own pants and right down to my underwear. Completely false advertising. - For wind chill, they are fine as long as they're dry. - In terms of durability, the Taos are also poor. I've only worn them 5 times and already the stitching attaching the velcro strap to tighten the waist has torn away completely and under no misuse on my part. Features - Who cares, it's not waterproof, so its pockets are useless to protect your equipment and the 'storm flap' is there ready to soak up all the precipitation and freeze your manhood. Conclusion Save your cash and do NOT buy these pants if you intend to use them during the wet months of the year as they offer NO protection against rain or moisture. In defence of RiverRoad products, I had purchased a leather jacket before the Taos which is fantastic. It fits well, looks stylish, protects me from the elements and seems of sturdy construction. Revzilla's service was fantastic! I live in Australia and my order arrived super fast to my surprise, thank you. July 30, 2013
Not bad for the price, but not good either. I had to send these back and exchange them because I bought the first pair in my size and they were too small, so I exchanged them for a size up. These are very warm even with the liner out. Somewhat stifling on a warm humid day, but I'm sure they'll keep you warm when the temperature drops. I have two major problems with them though. The knee pads are not adjustable, and are about 2 inches lower than they should be, so some creative adjustments are required for proper safety. The bigger issue is that they are by no means waterproof. Even calling them water resistant would be a stretch. I drove through some light rain for about 10-15 minutes over the weekend and they were almost saturated. July 8, 2013
Warm down to zero and then some I bought these for winter wear. I ride 365 days a year in Chicago, IL. They have kept me warm down to zero and nether snow nor rain penetrated, and I've ridden in rough conditions. Check out the conditions I ride in. http://youtu.be/q0HklcYuMrU I wear a size 36 in jeans but needed a 38 in these. They are comfortable, but I would recommend a pair of suspenders, they tend to creep down while walking. I plan to wear them in spring/summer over my jeans. I'll comment on air flow at that time. Not Advertised as Overpants - But They Are These pants are great. Even though they aren't advertised as overpants, with the liner out, they fit perfectly over regular pants. The liner is ridiculously warm. I can't imagine needing it unless it's below 35 degrees fahrenheit and you're riding at freeway speeds. I can't speak to it's waterproofness, but the pants feel very sturdy. With the liner, they fit true to size. Without, they are a size, maybe even two sizes, bigger. Also, the pant legs are wide enough that I was able to fit them over my Sidi Vertigo boots- which are supposed to be "in-boots," and not "out-boots," so there is a lot of room in the legs.
