Love the product - Could have much better manufacturer support
I picked this fender eliminator b/c it uses the OEM turn signals. I like that they're big and still stand out fairly wide. I wanted a balance between a clean fender and good visibility for the lights.
For background I'm not very technical so take my 'ease of install' rating with a grain of salt. I watched a bunch of different videos for other eliminators and for the ZX-6R specifically since I couldn't find any for this specific eliminator ON the ZX-6R. It looked dead simple.
The R&G instructions are pretty awful. Maybe my expectations are unrealistic and R&G just doesn't expect an average rider to even attempt this so again, grain of salt. I put a small crack in my fairing getting the wiring out after watching a video that said that was the 'simplest' way to do it. Lesson learned and at least the crack is not visible. If you don't fully remove the fairing be very careful pulling out the wiring harness.
I got everything connected and felt like I'd accomplished something. When I turned on the bike, the turn signals worked but the LED plate light didn't. It was the only thing that didn't use the OEM wiring. Again, the instructions are not useful. It comes with more parts than you need and they aren't labeled in the instructions. I wrote R&G support and described as best I could what I had connected and how. Their response was "With this you will need to splice into the wiring loom to get this to work I am afraid". Ok, fair enough but I have no idea what that means. I know what splicing is and what the wiring loom is but I had asked a very detailed question about which parts to use which was ignored. I asked for clarification with some detailed questions and got back another simple answer that didn't help. Ok, I'm sure they're busy like everyone else and can't hold my hand while I install something that maybe should be simpler for someone with more experience.
So, I swallowed my pride and took the bike to the dealer. 15 minutes and $53 later the bike is done and the LED plate light works. I asked the tech what the fix was. His answer: "The black and red wires are the reverse of what they're supposed to be. I just switched them." I'm sure you can guess I was not thrilled at that response. I wrote a polite email back to R&G support and got no response. Whatever. Hopefully it helps make the product better somewhere down the road.
The bike looks a MILLION times better. I love the product. But someone at R&G probably put this on a ZX-6R to make sure it worked?.... why not film it and publish it for instructions?
Definitely recommend the product.
