Puma 500 GTX Boots Videos

Puma 500 Gore-Tex Boots

Sport touring riders will love the Puma 500 Boot for its easy, rear-facing entry. Unparalleled comfort and inner ventilation, thanks to the inner mesh lining. Highly adjustable VELCRO® brand closures backed top panels make for a great fit. Protection? Here you go: Internal ankle bone cup, TPU heel counter, replaceable zinc sliders (1 for track, 1 for road). Waterproofing is ensured by a Goretex XCR membrane.

Comfort? Far exceeding what protective sports boots typically offer, with flexible inserts on the forefoot for that easy in-step feel, a rubber gear shifter and pre-molded sock liner to absorb vibration. In addition to all the protection and comfort, the 500 boot has a high density rubber outsole for providing extra stability, grip and abrasion resistance, so you feel at ease when you’re hitting high speed maneuvers.

Features:

  • Gore-Tex waterproof membrane
  • Rear-facing entry
  • Inner mesh lining
  • Velcro-backed panels for a custom fit
  • Internal ankle cup
  • TPU heel counter
  • Replaceable sliders
  • Flexible inserts on the forefoot
  • Rubber shift protector
  • Pre-molded sock liner
  • High density rubber outsole

Sizing: RevZilla has found that the Puma 500 Boots fit wide and approximately one size larger than the size chart indicates.

Who needs ankles anyway?
The Good:

Style. These boots look good. The zinc slider and heel are really nice touches and the Puma 'swoosh' is always a nice clean look. Goretex is a really nice addition at this price point, but I didn't personally get to try out any wet weather riding before returning the boots.

The toe box and heel pocket feel sturdy and protective. The rear entry is extremely easy to use and the rear 'tongue' doesn't get in the way of the zipper. It seems to pop in and out. Adjustment around the ankle allows fitment on a very wide range of calves/lower legs. I have relatively long legs, and these boots don't quite reach the bottom of the bulk of my calf muscle, but I'm still able to tighten them down around my leg. This comes at a cost though, which brings me to the bad.

The Bad:

The ankle region of this boot needs a complete re-design. The only real ankle protection you get is the synthetic leather and the accordion stretch panel (which is too loose). There is zero protection against hyperextension or hyperflexion at any angle. Similar to how Anthony does in the video, I can easily fold the top half of the boot over with a single finger.

My ankle is swimming in so much space that, with the calf adjustment in its 'neutral' position, I can look inside the front of the boot past my shin and see the top of my foot. The accordion stretch panel on the instep is so large and so loose that I can slide my foot out of the boot without unzipping it. The boot I got to try was maybe a size too big, but it still shouldn't come off like a slipper. My heel slides up and out of its place, even after sliding the boot as far forward on my foot as possible. There's nothing there to hold it.

More harping on the ankle region: The sliders on the lateral and medial malleolus protectors are just kind of floating in there. They're not attached to the heel cup or the upper thermoplastic sections. I suspect that they wouldn't stay in place very well if you were sliding at 40 mph with a motorcycle on your leg.

Lastly, the design doesn't hold its shape very well when worn. The top of the boot tends to slouch and wrinkle (again, because the ankle region has no structure of its own). This is especially true if you tighten up the velcro at the top of the boot. You end up with a very large crease in the leather that sticks out at the medial malleolus quite a long way.

As far as sizing goes, listen to Anthony. I typically wear a size 12 or 13 (46 or 47 EU) depending on brand, and have a couple pair of Puma shoes that are size 47 and fit nicely but the size 47 boots are just too big.

All in all, I'm disappointed. I didn't even bother taking the boots for a ride because I knew they weren't going to cut it. If you value safety over style (and you should, in my opinion), look elsewhere.

Great Sport Touring Boot
I was worried about this boot based on the previous review, however with a sale around 30% off, I gave it a try. I normally wear either a 43 in Euro size or 9.5 in US size, I ordered a 42. They came in still too big, my heal wanted to come right out. I returned them for a 41. 41 was almost perfect, however normally not a bad thing, but the sole inserts are very cushy and very padded, so I exchanged them for thiner insoles, and now they fit perfectly. Lets talk about safety and features. The video and past reviewer mention bad ankle support. I have worn BMW Gore-tex Allaround boots, and Sidi Fusion rain boots before, and the Pumas have the same ankle support as those. These boots have more protection than my BMWs were, and they are about the same with the fusions. I would rate these a bit better than the fusions for the Gore-Tex, ankle cockpit, the two sets of removable sliders, and the extra rubber that goes over the front of the boot (I hate when boots wear the fronts always scuff & deteriorate). The adjustability on these boots are great. Better than my other boots. I think these are great boots for everyday riding, touring, aggressive street riding. I would take them to the track, as I've taken my other boots I've mentioned to the track, just wear some ankle supports.

Another good deal from Zilla
Got the GTX boots for a up coming long ride because I wanted a gortex boot. Had to send the first set back R/T small size.Nice leather, easy on off. Could have more protection, but I knew that prior. I have only taken them on a short ride but they felt good. Good feed back on the shifter and break. My bubby like them and is going to order a set.

First thing I liked was the look, would go beautifully with my jeans. Secondly its gore tex so I have something that breathes and waterproof. Its fairly strong too for a non track rider..

Easy on and Goretex lining make these a good choice for the price.

I would like to know the calf size and the lower calf size of size US 10.5. i have wide calves (mid calf 19" and lower calf 17")?
Melissa A on Aug 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi, I have a US size 11. Not sure what you mean by mid and lower calf. My calf at its largest point is 16". They fit nice and not too tight. There is an adjustment on the side you can make that will likely give you a couple more inches. Would look a little funny though as most of the orange velcro would be exposed. I'm not sure these boots are for you (unless I misunderstood your sizing). They are very comfortable.
I wear a size 12 US. The suggestion is to go one full size down, however there is no size 11 in EU sizes. Do I get the EU45 or the EU44?
