Puig Racing Windscreen Honda CBR500R

Derived from competition, the race bubble design helps diminish the air effect on a rider's helmet.

Features:

  • Made of high impact acrylic, giving each screen added strength and flexibility
  • 3mm thickness helps absorb vibration at high speeds, and offers resistance from cracking or scratching
  • All screens are developed using information from wind tunnel testing

Very satisfied
Reason for buying it -I bought this because it was referred to me by an avid rider friend as a recommendation since we're doing a long trip across canada and he stated it makes a big difference.

The look-( I bought the smoke colored windshield)
The height of this windshield compared to the original I replaced it with is very similar, so if your worried about it looking weird or dorky, it looks amazing and still sleek

The install -like every other review says it is a lot more time consuming then on other styles of bikes. I had my boyfriend help.Make sure that you separate the bolts with the section you took it from. And that you have the proper tools(we had a stanely 173 bit socket set from Canadian tire) certain areas are a little hard to reach. The one thing I wish it had was the little lip at the bottom of the windshield to hook in like the original.

Order - I live in northern Alberta and I'm very happy with how quickly I received the product! I believe it was a week which was Awesome

Overall- Very happy with it, I can tell that there is a difference, however I will know better after my trip.

Difficult to install for a first timer, looks great when done.
I got the solid black version, and let me tell you. This thing is solid black, there isn't any chance of anyone ever being able to see through it. It looks fantastic now that it is on and everything is together.
Putting it on was the hard part. It comes with instructions, consisting of 5 pictures and a few words of description per picture, most in a language that isn't English. All of the plastic on my bike had to be taken off from the black piece under the seat up to the front. It was a good learning experience, just be sure to remember what screws/bolts go where, because I don't.

Hard to Install
Installation requires full removal of lots of plastics. You will gain intimate knowledge of your bike. Takes some force to fit properly. However, once in place, it looks pretty good. I got the transparent red.

Great look, bad fit.
I bought this not only as a replacement, but also because I wanted the dark smoke instead of the clear. It looks great, but is horrible to install, and not a great fit. There are two places on each side that aren't exactly flush, but it's not extremely noticeable.

CBR 500 windscreen appliaction on race fairings!
If you are replacing a windscreen on a stock fairing stop reading here...the product is worth the money. However, if its a race fairing application, the install is tricky unless you want to drill all 4 holes in the screen. I drilled two bottom holes, then went and got longer well nuts and used the upper mounting holes of the Puig windscreen...looks kinda goofy, but it's effective.

Great item, poor fit.
Installing the windscreen on the CBR500R is about an hour job if you know exactly how to do it. Once I had the screen on and was bolting everything else back up I realized the fit was off just a little, just enough I couldn't get some bolts to thread. took it back apart and there was no adjustment etc. So I ended up putting the Honda screen back on. Now I have $90 laying on my kitchen table that I'm not using.
As for the effect of the screen when it is on the bike, when you tuck it is definitely a lot smoother, I'm 5'10 and sitting upright the screen put airflow right at my helmet. If your not gonna be running 70+ MPH often it's not really a worthy purchase.

Needed more wind protection on the 500R and also thought a blacked out windscreen would look cool. It does!

Just wondering what the carbon colour is like? Im assuming that it is not actual carbon fibre but just an effect on the plastic.
A shopper on Aug 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I wasn't sure about that as well, so I went with the black. You can't see through it, but really makes your bike look very nice.
I would like to know if the Puig windscreen is taller than the stock screen on a CBR500R, and has anyone noticed a difference in wind protection?
Thanks!
A S on Apr 26, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The puig windscreen is not much taller than stock. However because of the shape I immediately noticed an improvement in all speeds. For reference I'm 5'9". In full crouch with the stock screen the wind would still push my helmet all over the place. No such problem with the puig. Be aware, fitment is not great. It took quite a bit of fumbling and repositioning to get everything to sit flush.
Is the Puig logo on the top left side of this windscreen removable?....is it a sticker or etched on?
A shopper on Sep 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I bought the black windscreen and it didn't have the logo on it, but they did give me stickers to add if I wanted.
Is the Black windscreen totally blacked out or is it just the bottom half blacked out? I want an all black windscreen for my cbr500r and just need to know about this one. I do see the dark smoke option but if the black one is darker then I want to go with it.

Please let me know.
A shopper on Feb 26, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I got the dark smoke and the whole screen is dark smoke - not just the bottom half. So I would safely assume that the black one is all solid black. As a side note: be prepared to take half your bike apart to get the windscreen on the 500r. There are 2 lower bolts that are next to impossible to get to. Both fairing had to come off and had to disconnect the instrument panel - it's a project!
