I like it, but design could be better
The Powerlet Handlebar outlet works well and looks good, once you get it installed. I like it a lot, but the install could have been easier with a better design. The main body of the mount is two pieces that cut the mount in half horizontally, like two pieces of bread that sandwich the handlebars. Unfortunately, the two pieces are held together by two bolts applied from underneath. While I could easily position the mount in the place I wanted it, I had to remove the handlebars to be able to apply the bolts. Then, getting the right angle for the mount required removing the handlebars a second time, unscrewing the mount and repositioning it. Then playing with the handlebars to get them back in their original position. The whole exercise seemed unnecessary. If the bolts, which aren't bad to look at, were applied from the top, the install would only have taken 5 minutes, rather than an hour. By comparison, routing the wiring under the gas tank to reach the battery was a breeze. Now that it is installed, it looks good, it does its job well, and is made of high quality materials with good workmanship, so I expect it will last a long time.

Working well for me
I had originally tried to skimp and bough the microUSB direct to battery harness and a stand-alone RAM mount, however that setup died on me within the first year. I replaced it with this and I immediately noticed the much thicker cable running to the battery. I also appreciate the flip-up cover over the Powerlet port.

I didn't have any trouble mounting it to my handle bars, on my bike the bolts on the bottom were accessible without having to remove anything from the bike.

The rubber padding they provide for matching the diameter of the mount to the diameter of your bars seems a little cheap. I wish they had come up with an easier and more professional looking solution there.

Once installed it feels solid and secure. The Powerlet port works as advertised. So far I'm very happy with it.

I think this product is great and I am very thankful that someone is making it. However I was furious when I found out that Neither Powerlet nor the Ramball manufacturer makes a ram ball to connect to this "Specifically made for Ram ball mount" in the thread size this mount comes threaded with to a ball that will fit all of the most common and universal size of ball mount that GPS, Cellphone and all other Default Ball mount products use. I had to custom make 3/8 - 16 thread to 5/8" Ball. Not OK!

Will this fit the Triumph Street triple 2014 handlebar? I think the street triple has a 1 1/8 handlebar? I could be wrong though. Please advise.

So I have this wired directly to the battery to use for my iPhone. Can u use the port as a inlet to charge the battery?

BEST ANSWER: I haven't tried it yet the logic is there and powerlet does offer a cable compatible with battery tenders.

I'm new to this (finally got a smart phone) so I need some advice. I'm going to order a Powerlet Powerbar Plus Handlebar Outlet With RAM Mount. I see it comes with a 1" ball. I see that most smart phone holders also come with a ball rather than a socket to clamp onto the Powerlet ball. Are there any phone holders that already come with the female ball socket or do I have to get a double-ended clamp to go between the Powerlet ball and the ball on the smart phone holder? I'm just concerned that if I go that way the phone will be sticking way out from the handlebars. The phone I will be mounting is 2 7/8" wide and 5 3/4" long but I will be getting a case for it so I'll need a phone mount that is larger than the phone, of course. I just don't know what the final dimensions will be at the moment. Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: The reference to "RAM Mount" is a particular term of art that identifies a manufacturer that makes specific mounts for GPS, phones, cameras, tablets, etc. The manufacturer is RAM Mounts out of Seattle, WA. As you noted all you need is the socket or female side of the attachment. I can't reference the webpage but Google the name and on their site look for the drop down menu for "Shop By" and go to "Devices" to find the item you need for your phone. Good luck and I hope this helps. The product is incredible and helps me a lot with my traveling. In the past 49 years I have logged in excess of 135K miles and with all the gadgets available today this is one of the better ones. No better place to shop either. JC
What's in the box with this purchase? Are all necessary usage and mounting accessories (bolts, connectors, etc) included, or will i need to purchase anything separately to mount this to my bike and use it to connect to my battery? I already have a RAM cell phone mount that fits my (large) Samsung Note 4. I'm not seeing product specs anywhere other than the general description.
Justine R on Jun 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Everything is included in the package except the socket, that's extra. The ram mount is a 1" ball
What connection to the Battery does this come with? Is it available with SAE connection?
