Nolan N44 Outlaw Helmet
2 Years running.
It's been two years of riding with this helmet so I think it's time for a review.
-Built in sun visor
-Lack of SNELL certification
-Fogs easily in the cold when the face shield is down
I see this helmet has gone up in price since I bought it - must be for a reason. I love this helmet. First and foremost, the most important thing for me was visibility. I don't trust anyone on the road but myself, and am constantly on the look out due to far too many close calls. The peripheral view on this helmet is unreal - sometimes I forget I'm even wearing it as no portion of the helmet interferes with my field of view.
I didn't think I'd use the built in sun visor at all when considering this helmet for purchase. Helps tremendously in evening commute home when the sun is setting in my face. (I also feel like a fighter pilot when I deploy it..) That said, when the visor is down this helmet makes you look like Robocop, which is awesome. I've been told this on a few occasions.
The visor, hood, and chin piece all swap out easily depending on how you want to ride. I mainly use this helmet for street, but have taken it off road with the face shield removed and just the peak and goggles for some ADV riding and camping trips. I've taken the chin off just for the heck of it, but always ride with it on. My mouth is about .25" away from the front wall.
Ride a bunch through the fall and winter months as well. (The BMW K1 I mainly ride throws off a ton of heat, great in the cold...) It's standard practice for me to put on a face mask under the helmet and a scarf when the temps are in the 30's and 40's. I don't want to say the helmet keeps me warm, but I'm not freezing to death either. Just close the vents, face shield down and you're good. Unfortunately, I found myself having to crack the face shield one notch open at slower speeds due to fogging. It was annoying at first, but now the practice is second nature.
Noise: This helmet is loud. Anything over 40 and you'll wish you were wearing ear plugs. I usually have them in anyways as standard practice.
Overall, I think this helmet is awesome and I'd highly recommend it. This Nolan was my first, and most likely wont be the last from this brand. Again, I love this helmet.

Sleek and functional helmet
This helmet is my 2nd Nolan but it is so different as to be night and day. So much more sleek and sporty, much more oval shaped for my head, and air flow is excellent. The chin bar removes and replaces very easily, the shield is huge and gives a wonderful wide vision. I love that my glasses slide on and off so smoothly with the little ready made pockets. I've tried it out on the highway and in town but have yet to take a long trip with it. I'm looking forward to really checking it out. If I discover anything different from what I think now, I will update my review.

Nolan N44 Outlaw
This helmet is kick butt. It has tons of features. For example, it has a snap on chin guard that's easy to remove, A large clear face mask, that makes for excellent the vision, a dark visor that is used with a simple push of a button, and so much more. It's lightweight and has great air flow. I've taken in on highways at 75+mph, and I've had no problem with wind noise. The only down side to this helmet is the chin strap being a little tight to your throat, but I've gotten used to it. Thanks for a rad purchase RevZilla!!

I like helmets that don't obstruct view or feel claustrophobic. Next to a half helmet , this is the best choice. Many configurations of wear. Only downside is the noise. At highway speeds, you still need earplugs to preserve your hearing. If Nolan could improve this feature, I would call the N44 the absolutely perfect helmet.

Versatile & Stylish Helmet but with a few flaws
Overall the N44 is a very good helmet.
~With all the configurations, it is very versatile.
~It is a great looking helmet.
~The vents work well and provide very good air flow.
~Sizing is unusual. Normally a large fits 59-60c or something less than 24". This large is listed as 61c or 24" and that is accurate.
~Tying into that last con, there is no ability to resize the helmet with pads. There are no removable pads and there is one size of liner for each helmet size. That is unfortunate.
~Tying into that last con, there are no ear indents or cavities in the liner. It feels a little weird, but you get used to it.
~The venting provides good airflow, but the N44 is also fairly loud. I wear ear plugs and still find it is pretty loud.
Overall, I like the helmet....but I don't love it.

Best helmet I own. Very wide view angle. Easy to use sunshield. It took me a while to figure out the feel of the release for retracting the shield, but eventually, I learned. I don't use the chin guard and full face shield in the summer, and the helmet feels great. When I rode in late winter the face shield was really quite amazing. It drops down to below the chin and kept me wind free and warm. Cool extra inner thingy that keeps the humidity off the shield works perfectly. The overall helmet is a little heavy. It has very nice styling, and I feel great using this helmet - I'm a cruiser style rider.

Bought this helmet spring of 2014 and only had it a short time before hitting a deer at 65 mph. Helmet did its job flawlessly. Face plate was ground down so badly you could no longer see through it and there were various other bangs and dents in it but i suffered no head injuries at all. The rest of me didnt do quite so well. Had alittle trouble getting use to the chin strap but was getting over that. Would recommend this helmet with no reservations at all.

A helmet that does everything. This helmet is very versatile and well constructed. The options on this helmet are amazing. The peripheral vision is really wide, I never have an issue looking for objects. I wear rx glasses and having the feature of a drop down dark visor with a clear full face at the same time is excellent. I do not have to worry about changing main visor to dark tint. Noise on this helmet at highway speeds is not bad at all, I still recommend ear protection to not damage your personal hearing, but for sure if you choose not to wear ear protection, you'll be fine. It took a while to get used to the closed ear section, there is not really an "ear hole", but after the 1st week wearing the helmet, I got used to it and it actually the cushion formed it on "ear hole". ONLY BAD FLAW, Bluetooth setup is not to universal. Other than that THE BEST HELMET OUT THERE for a good price.
