Nolan N43E Trilogy Outlaw Helmet

New design for 2012!

New Features:

  • New: Chinbar is extended for extra room and now can accept included chin curtain
  • New: Face shield now has intermediate open position, previous version was either opened or closed
  • New: locking pivot kit

6-in-1 design

The New Nolan N43E Trilogy Helmet is a crossover design with quick-change accessories that allows for customized looks and functions for every ride. The helmet comes with the clear shield, the integrated sun shield, the peak and the removable chinbar. The Lexan chinbar is EPS lined and mounted with strong stainless-steel latches, so it passes the tests for full-face helmets of the European standard ECE-2205.  VPS (Vision Protection System) features a short dark shield mounted on the inside of the helmet which moves independently from the face shield. It provides real eye protection and is also available in amber, light blue and light smoke as an accessory.  The VPS is easily operated by a large rubber coated slider on the left side of the helmet.

Features:

  • Quick-change shield is optically correct, UV-400 and fitted in an exceptionally large eyeport accepts the Pinlock antifog insert (not included)
  • The short black peak can be installed in seconds instead of the clear shield
  • Ready for the N-Com communication system
  • Lightweight aerodynamic polycarbonate shell with built-in spoiler for improved stability
  • Fully removable and washable Clima-Comfort liner is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and wicking
  • Super-efficient JSW top vent with exhaust grid in the rear spoiler; works in conjunction with the air  channels along the crown
  • Microlock (adjustable quick-release) retention system
  • Velour chin-strap padding
  • 3.6lbs with all accessories
  • Both D.O.T. and ECE certified

Note:  Trilogy Solid, Trilogy Outlaw and Trilogy Voyage Helmets are identical except for the paint or graphics. "Outlaw" versions of Nolan Helmets have a sleeker look with more subtle Nolan logos.

A good value Helmet at a not so bad price.
I wear Eyeglasses while riding and this one is very much eyeglass friendly. remove the chin cover put on the helmet with your eye glasses on, put back the chin cover if you want it - I only had a couple of rides on this one, but in my experience, I would say this is an excellent choice for people looking for an eye glass friendly helmet - inside cushioning is perfect for wearing with eyeglasses, it wont push the eyeglass legs against your head
Also the front-mask has a slightly open position to prevent fogging in low speed riding and sun-visor can be operated easily with gloves on.
Hope this review helps

I tried on loads of helmets and wanted to go with a modular Shark but when I saw this model I changed my mind, I wanted the versatility.
When I first out the helmet on I was worried, it was very tight around the neck and required to use the straps to pull the helmet open... that said, when my head was in it was like a GLOVE, perfect. No pressure points, nice fabric.
The removable chin guard is great and is easy to add and remove.
the only negative comment would be instalation of the SMH10 Bluetooth headset. It is very aparent that they want people to install the NCOM headset but isnt ideal as most of my friends run SMH which I want to talk on the road. To install the SMH you will need to cut a plastic strip running around the neckline so as to get the clamp in. I got it done in 30 min with a Stanley cutter and looks good now but did involce some modding.
All in all, love the helmet and the service, 10/10 Revzilla....

This is my first helmet ever so keep that in mind when reading my review.
The fit is great. There are no pressure points while fitting snug. I tried a XL first and it was fine, but the L was even better. It fits so well I've caught myself forgetting to do the strap a couple times. (guess that would be a negative)
The chin bar does not have a ton of clearance with your chin. I don't have a particularly protruding chin, but if you do that could be an issue.
Being a new rider I've yet to ride with the chin bar off, but it comes off and goes back on very easily.
The 'Top Gun' shade is cool and I dont find it too distracting. I rode 100+ miles with it recently and I didn't find it problematic. The lower line is noticeable at first but you get used to it quick. I've yet to wear sunglasses with this helmet.
I have a couple of negatives, and they may be indicitive of helmets in general.
1) Noise. Next long ride I go on I'll have to wear ear plugs. It was just too loud. Also a train blew it's horn along the hwy I was riding and it reverberated loudly inside the helmet. Again, these things may be the norm with full face helmets but it was a bummer.
2) Wind. At speed the wind was getting into the top portion of the visor, especially cross wind. I've had the wind blow in and hit my eye for a good 5-10 miles, while at speed. Not comfortable or safe, as I was effectively riding with one eye.

Great helmet with three suggested improvements. 1) Chin bar needs to be extended. I do not have a pronounced chin but my chin still rubs, making it slightly uncomfortable. 2) Drop down sun visor needs to drop down further. 3) Wind noise is still a problem, seems worse than my Nolan N42..

Fit is good, but when I get above 90 mph, it feels like maybe it is just slightly on the larger side.
The road/wind noise is there, but a little bit better than my other Gmax full face.
The chip strap is easy to use and I love it, but sometimes it jabs or rests on my adam's apple.
The most eyeglass friendly helmet I've had.

Answer:
A MD size helmet should be correct based on your measurement. The N43 does tend to fit rather round, so if you have a more oval headshape, then we would recommend starting with a LG instead.
