Nolan N104 Outlaw Helmet

Nolan N104 Helmets represent an evolutionary step for Nolan as they replace the much touted N103 Helmet. When compared the older N103, the Nolan N104 Helmet offers a helmet which is much lighter (7oz), features a lower profile through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics, as well as a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The new ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally for maximum field of view.

The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow and two rear extractors at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain and is easily removable and washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. New, redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before.

All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready (N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately).

Shell Features:

 • Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell
 • 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103
 • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
 • Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

 • Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
 • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
 • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
 • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
 • VPS (Vision Protection System) is new; slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction
 • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

 • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
 • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

Ventilation:

 • N104 has new AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
 • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
 • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
 • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
 • New plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

 • Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
 • The inner padding of the new N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
 • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
 • Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
 • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

 • N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately)
 • Features new Microlock2 quick-release retention system
 • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever
 • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use
 • Meets or exceeds D.O.T. standards

Note: "Outlaw" versions of Nolan Helmets have a sleeker look with more subtle Nolan logos, but are identical to non-Outlaw helmets.

This helmet is great get one.
This is my third helmet, and I would not hesitate to buy another Nolan helmet. I especially like the chin strap but the pinlock antifog technology cant be beat. I have had this helmet for abut 6 months now and am very happy. Revzilla had this helmet to me in less than 4 days.

n104 vs other modulars. get the n104
I bought an XL nolan n104 after doing much searching, trying on and testing out of helmets. all of the ones i looked at are: Nolan n104(various models) and n43e(various models), Shoei Neotec (2012) and Multitec, shark evoline 2, scorpion EXO-900, AGV miglia 2 and the bell revolver. (obviously I look at the Schuberth C3 but I my price range was south of 500$)

the things I was looking for in a modular helmet purchase was (in order): safety, quality/durability, good looks and price.

my price range was 500$ or less. (i was willing to go more if any of the more expensive ones played any benefit)
my style I wanted was something that had a high-biz option or a matte black option, not too aggressive lines but not a blob.
with features right off the bat I got rid of the AGV. I like the AGV brand, the style and the price point (revzilla has it for under 200) but I can not do with a sun vizor outside the main vizor. I have glasses and I would rather change face shields or have an internal sun vizor.
after watching at least 3 hours of revzilla reviews and comments, i took out the Multitec from my choices(the Neotec has more features that improved upon the Multitec making it worth the higher costs)
I also got rid of the n43e trilogy, though this was the only completely modular helmet ( you can change many components to make the helmet more than 5 different styles) I did not like the fact that the chin bar is not integrated and could lack space. I already own a 3/4 helmet for around the town riding and want something more specialized and less noisy.
I was able to try on the EXO-900, the Evoline 2, the Neotec, the Bell and the n43e. of those ones I wore I removed the Evoline 2 and the Revolver. Both were very aggressive in style. And for the Evoline 2 chin guard that goes all the way back in my mind looks stupid.

so to make a long story short the two helmets I'd buy was the Nolan n104 and the Shoei Neotec. I ended up getting the Nolan n104. the things I like about it are: high quality build, outlaw version ( a version that replaces nolans front name logo with a emblem, making the helmet more discrete), and good features.

the n104 has great airflow, quiet inside. the Visor is a bit of a pain. the nose cut out was really high and could bother someone. definitely worth the money.

one weird thing that I will update if I find out differently is that there is no way to lock up the helmet to your bike. I am waiting for a response from a question but I am kinda baffled that no one is brought that up yet.

Light weight, easy to operate, excellent field of vision.
So far I really like this helmet. The anti fog pinlock shield works as advertised. I wore it to work on a 22 degree morning and tried like heck to fog the shield, but I couldn't. The flip up and the sun shade are both easy to operate. The field of vision is very wide. Much wider than the other high dollar helmets I have tried. For a modular the helmet is light weight. I haven't ridden in hot weather yet to see how well the vents work, but I opened them in 25 degree weather and I could feel the air movement. Nothing spectacular, but noticeable. We'll see how it does this summer. I also like the styling compared to other helmets. It is a good looking helmet with the chin bar down or up. With the chin bar up it looks like part of the helmet, not an enormous growth on your helmet.

Great Modular Helmet
I have a large, somewhat round head, and after a couple of tries this was the helmet that best replaced my old standby. It is quieter than expected. The chin release is very easy to use, and the chin strap clasp is quicker than rings. I ordered the XXXL

The air flow was better than I expected.

Great helmet for the price
Typical Nolan- great helmet/features for the price, however the newer more oval design is alot tigher on the jaw line. Very tight at first, but I expect it to loosen to a more comfortable fit with use. I bought the latest Shoei Neotec Modualr at the same time to compare, and sent it back. The Nolan is the best buy again.

Excellent Helmet would buy again.
I purchased the N104 Outlaw in Matte Black. I have been riding with a half helmet the last few years and was in full face prior to that. I have tried on other modulars, but this is my first modular to own and ride in.

The helmet looks sharp, and is well balanced even with the chin bar raised. The pin lock shield works great riding around in the cool weather. Riding in 40 degree weather, there was some fogging just below the pin lock noticeable when the visor was raised, but the pin lock area was completely fog free. The venting work really well. I opened the vents sitting at a light and as soon as i started moving felt the air moving through the helmet and had to close them quickly.
The drop down visor works nice and easily operated with a gloved hand as is the chin bar release.

One note about the fit, My measurement put me between Medium and Large, but closer to Medium. I ordered a Medium and it fits perfectly around my head with no pressure points. However it is really tight along the Jawline, and I need to raise the chinbar to put the helmet on or remove the helmet The tightness in the jaw feels like it should break it and be ok, but if not going large might have been a better option.

The fit and finish is excellent. Definitely a great helmet. I would definitely recommend it.

The features of this helmet are solid. For the price, you get a lot of helmet.
This is my first Nolan helmet- The review of this particular helmet here on Revzilla had me hooked. Anthony's review was very complete. I was hesitant on purchasing online but a phone call to Revzilla and speaking to someone, eased my concern. The Helmet is very well made. When I first put the helmet on it seemed very snug. Much more than my old KBC Harley Modular. As I wore this helmet around the house it took about 15 minutes and the helmet began to feel much more comfortable. I took it out for a 30 mile ride in about 95 degrees and could feel the venting working and keeping my head pretty comfortable. One thing I would change is the stock clear face shield. I am used to a darker shield and the wide eye port felt like I was over exposed. But in a helmet like this that is a good thing. It means the visibility is incredible. Overall very happy with this helmet and Revzilla.

I've had the Nolan N104 about two months and seems to be broken in. Nice fit and very good feel overall. Quite with very little noise compared to my old HJC. Visor works well and the modular function does what it is supposed to do. I bought this helmet because of the way the bar and shield articulate as you raise it so that the open bar doesn't stick up as high as other modulars. I like it. This helmet does have the largest viewing cutout of any I have ever owned or even tried on.

The Nolan helmets are perfect for my headshape and have the quick disconnect that should be replacing every obnoxious D ring connector out there. This helmet in particular I wanted because it is much more aerodynamic with the faceshield raised than others. I do not get buffeting when riding with it up, even at 90mph. Plus the neckroll can be removed.

All combined, it fits my need for a helmet that will be as cool as possible behind a fairing, with the option for full protection when needed.

This was my Second Nolan. I was very happy with the last N101 with four years of service. This helmet is still good. I'm Happy with it, but has its flaws. Its not very air tight in the face sheild. Warm weather its not a factor at all but in the winter it has a more than wanted air leak from the front. Its to the point that i never know if the front vent is open or not there appears to have no change it the flow. but over all still a Happy owner here

What is the best way to use this helmet with a 2013 Ultra Classic audio system? Do the Harley speakers / mic fit with this helmet? If not, what do you recommend?
A shopper on Nov 21, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I am unfamiliar with how that system mounts exactly. But most systems other then the J&M integrated audio system might take some create modification. The N104 has a plastic lip around the bottom of the shell. Most audio systems rely on some type of clamp mechanism to attach and that lip is in the way.
Personally I used a Sena SMH10. This required me to cut a small slot in the plastic to allow the clamp arm to pass thru and grab the inside of the shell for a secure fit. It worked perfectly and I love both the helmet and the audio system. As with most modern helmets, there are cutouts in the ears to accept the speakers.
is it me, or the outlaw version doesn't says NOLAN in the front ? instead they put a sign.
am I seeing wrong ?
A shopper on May 22, 2012
BEST ANSWER: You are absolutely correct! The Outlaw version of this helmet is basically a de-branded version of the same thing. The side-plates receive a smoked treatment and the Nolan logo is replaced with a different decoration that is more subtle than the logo it replaces.
I currently wear an HFC Symax II in size XL and like the fit. Should I order the Nolan 104 in that same size?
A S on Sep 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I strongly suggest measuring your head and contacting Revzilla. I came from A Nolan N-102 and had to change my size. They changed the internal shape to a narrower shape
Is there any difference between a Nolan N104 "Outlaw" and a "solid" other than color?
A shopper on Jan 29, 2012
BEST ANSWER: the solid helmet has the nolan painted on. the outlaw has nolan logo replaced with a 3d emblem, that is easily removable. also their is a vinyl logo in the back that is also easy to take off.
Confused about what size to get? My head measures 22 inches, which would be a small, but my hat size is 7 1/4 inches, which would be a medium. I need help!
A shopper on Nov 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They run a little small. Order the medium. Revzilla is great about returns if i am wrong. You will love this helmet, best purchase I have made in the bike world. Safe riding.
Hi, I have measured my head and comes in around 23-1/4"

So over a medium but no where near the large

Any advice on the fit please? I don't want my temples being crushed and also where thin framed prescription glasses when riding.

Would really like to get one on close out.

Russ
A shopper on Mar 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Wow, there's a lot to consider in sizing a helmet, and I read a lot of reviews before selecting this one. I went by the circumference of my head and the XL helmet fits me well based on their size chart... BUT...

I have thick hair and the helmet fits me best from 1 to 2 weeks after I get my hair cut; before then it's a little loose and after that it starts getting snug. Also, despite the liner being removable to wash, I prefer to wear a do-rag under my helmet, so there's that to consider.

I also chose this helmet based on my research because my head is a bit longer front to back. Put another way, looking down from above, my head is more oval and less circle. Other helmets squeezed me too tightly in the front and back of my head.

I was a bit nervous at first buying a helmet without being able to try it on, but all in all I'm really pleased with this one.

Now if it would just stop snowing...
I just bought the N104 and am waiting for it to arrive. I ride a harley streetglide. Will I still be able to hear the stereo system of the bike or will I have to go to ear buds or blue tooth system for my music? This is my first modular or full face. Used to a half helmet so it may be a learning curve. Thanks.

A shopper on May 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: From my experience the noise cancellation is pretty good and the volume is quite loud. However, once you hit highway speeds 75+ even at full volume you will not hear anything but the wind.
is this helmet ece 2205 certified, one website says it is another says no......??
A shopper on Apr 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I bought this exact helmet and saved all the printed material. The only reference to ECE 22.05 is in regard to the visor. So, the visor is ECE 22.05 compliant. My understanding is ECE 22.05 is a European standard. My helmet, purchased in the United States, only has labels indicating DOT and FMVSS 218 certifications. They included a piece of paper with the following statement: "Important Warning -- The purchased helmet has been designed and realized to be exclusively used in the United States of America, Mexico, Canada and Countries where the homologation in force is in compliance with the DOT Regulation. The use of this helmet in other countries with regulations other than DOT may be considered by the local authorities as a breach of the laws in force."

My feeling is a helmet that's going to be used in Europe should probably be purchased in Europe and should note ECE 22.05 compliance.

Another option is to contact Nolan and ask them your question. Perhaps it's a question of labeling and not construction.

For what's its worth, I absolutely love this helmet! I've owned many helmets, including older Nolans. This is the best helmet I've ever used, by far.
I have a big head and have heard that the chin bar is close on these. Can anyone compare the chin bar and fit to an HJC Symaxlll?
Fit is an issue of course too. has anyone compared the fit to the Symaxlll That is the other helmet I am considering
A shopper on Nov 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Can't compare to the HJC helmets, but I can definately tell the chin curtain and bar and closer than on my arai, shoei & suomy helmets.
I have seen a video showing one installed, but it involved some trickery that included a spent .45 shell. Just wondering if my Scala system will work with it or not.
A shopper on Jun 29, 2012
BEST ANSWER: No, the Scala Rider G4 will not work as the clamp system will get in the way of the neck collar as it would with the Sena SMH10. The best option for this helmet for communication system would be Nolan N-Com E-Box Intercom BT3 Kit combined with the Nolan N-Com Basic Kit 2.
