Nolan N104 Hi Viz Helmet

The Nolan N104 Helmet represents an evolutionary step forward in Nolan's helmet line. The N104 is much lighter (7oz) than previous models and features a lower profile, achieved through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics and a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation mechanism, with elliptical trajectory, makes it possible to minimize the total size of the helmet's front section when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently greatly reduced, increasing rider comfort even when the chin bar is raised. The ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally, allowing for maximum field of view.

The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow, and two exhaust vents at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain, all of which are washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. The redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before.

All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready (N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately).

Shell Features:

  • Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell
  • 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103
  • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

  • Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
  • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
  • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
  • VPS (Vision Protection System); slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction
  • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

  • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
  • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

  • AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
  • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
  • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
  • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
  • Plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

  • Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
  • The inner padding of the N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
  • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
  • Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
  • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

  • N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately)
  • Features Microlock2 quick-release retention system
  • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever
  • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use

Nolan N104 Hi-Viz Helmet 4.5 5 10 10
First modular and first Nolan and like them both Impressed with the overall quality of the N104. Installation of the included Pinlock system was necessary after the first ride on a foggy San Francisco morning and it works great. Nolan's quick fasten and release chinstrap works well too. If you are looking for a wider field of vision than you get with most full face helmets, the N104 really delivers. I find the sun shield to be not quite dark enough for bright sunshine. Wind noise is significantly louder than my Scorpion EVO at highway speeds, but I can hear traffic better with the Nolan. This may be typical of modulars. Finally, even with the vents closed (and the face shield has a good seal), a significant amount of air channels over the face, good for warmer weather, probably not so good for cold rides. Looking forward to adding comms to this helmet. December 2, 2014
Release mechanism is a concern This is the first modular helmet I've owned. I like it, but I have a couple of concerns. I have to have the chin in the up position in order to put the helmet on comfortably. If it is down when I put the helmet on or take it off, if feels like my ears are going to be torn off. With the chin/face in the up position, it is easy to put on. The second concern is the two buttons/levers for releasing the chin/face portion of the helmet. They are made of plastic, and I'm worried about their durability. November 4, 2014
Hi-Viz Rocks on this hi-quality helmet Picked this up on sale at Revzilla and I'm very happy with the helmet. It is extremely functional with hi-viz color, modular chin guard and the sun-visor is a must feature that allows you to eliminate the worry about sunglasses. I purchased true-to size based on head measurement and Nolan's size chart. I've ridden about 500 miles with this helmet and find it extremely comfortable and functional with easy to use lock and release features along with fantastic outward visibility with a wide it's wide visor. There is a bit of wind noise, but I can't rate in context with other similar helmets as this is my first full face unit. October 6, 2014
Great Helmet This is an all-around great helmet. It looks great, fits great and has excellent features and a super wide visor for an outstanding view. Not as quiet as I had hoped, but I huge improvement over my previous helmet. The colour of the helmet is a perfect match to my armoured jacket. Pluses: The shape of this helmet is perfect for my head! It's hard to find a helmet that fits, that doesn't put painful pressure on my forehead. This helmet gives me no problems at all. I'm fairly sure that the pressure on my cheeks will ease up a bit as the helmet breaks in. Removable neck roll and chin curtain for summer riding comfort. Drop-down internal sun visor (could drop down a bit more though!#. Microlock 2 fastening system #double-edged sword though - see below for the quibble#. Pinlock Anti-fog insert is included with the helmet! This helmet has outstanding airflow. A few quibbles: Nolan has chosen to design their proprietary N-Com system in such a way that it makes it difficult to use a non-OEM Bluetooth unit with their helmets. In order to get my Sena Bluetooth unit to work with this helmet, I had to cut a slot into the moulding that runs around the bottom of the helmet. N-Com is nice, but pricey, and does not sound nearly as good as my Sena Bluetooth unit. I fear that by making this slight #and purely cosmetic) modification to my helmet that I have voided any warranty coverage for the entire helmet. That said, the Sena SMH10 unit with detachable microphone works very well in this helmet, and sounds fantastic! Replacing the visor is a pain. It does not come off or go back on again easily. The mechanism is quite fiddly and I can see how it would be easy to break it without a lot of care being taking when changing out the visor. The mechanism to open the chin bar makes it difficult to open when wearing even thin summer gloves. I haven't tried with my winter gloves yet, but I imagine that it won't be easy. The Microlock 2 system makes this helmet a breeze to fasten, but the lack of a D-Ring leaves no place to attach the helmet to my anti-theft helmet pins. An added D-Ring just for this purpose would be appreciated. As it is, I was able to find a T-shaped metal bit that slides in the loop of the ratchet part of the closure. This allows me to use the helmet lock easily, but it does add an additional step to the process of securing my bike. The visor itself does not seem to have any anti-fog properties whatsoever. I find that on even on warm days, when I have to stop at a light that the visor will completely fog over in just a few seconds if I don't crack it a bit. The Pinlock inserts are great for riding in the cold, but I don't want to have to keep one installed in the helmet all the time. I don't understand why Hi-Viz helmets seem to be sold at a premium. I got a good deal with a price match on my helmet, but riders shouldn't have to hunt around to avoid paying a premium for safety. August 5, 2014
No pian with Eyeglasess This is a very comfortable helmet my tempels no longer ache after a long ride the cheeck pads are properly made to accomodate classes. Great sound from the Nolan headsets. Quality is wonderful. I am Very happy. July 21, 2014
Great! Great helmet! Definitely feel I am seen because of the hi-viz yellow. Love the fact I can put on and take off the helmet with my glasses on without issue. Huge field of vision! Air flow is good in my opinion. Glasses don't fog while riding so thats definitely a plus. Overall very nice helmet. And as always great product and service from revzilla! July 21, 2014
Don't be fooled like I was This is the low end of a good helmet. I like it . but then installed the Nolan B4 + system. I thought i was getting a top of the line interim system. No Apple support. Really? No Nolan wizard for Apple no app that they speak of. I plugged both units in. One charged to full and the other never got there. I returned everything. Spend more and get a better helmet. Great helmet, just little noise protection This is my first modular helmet. I will never go back to full-face. Wearing glasses it is so much easier going into a gas station, drinking some water, talking to someone etc. having the option to push up the face guard. I like the interior visor against the sun. For someone who wears glasses it is a great feature. I wanted hi-viz and I think people can see me with their eyes closed. It is a great helmet in that regard. My only compliant is that it is noisy. I had read other reviews and thought-surely not at this price. They were correct. I am hoping I can find some remedy because it is a drag not being able to listen to music or to talk with my buddies on our intercom system. We never buy "good" or "best" but always "better". This is a good helmet from my perspective for the price. I just wish it weren't so loud. April 29, 2014

michael a: I needed a new helmet to replace my Nolan N-91...I choose the N-104 because of it superior ventilation over the N-91..and..most importantly..the wife paid the difference between the two...I've also gone to hi-viz gear after wearing a hi-viz jacket for just a brief time...you really do get noticed... I am looking for a quiet hi-vis helmet for riding long distances. I think the Nolan will fit my headshape.

C A: Lots of research on modular helmets and this is one of the few came in hi-vis orange.
The kicker was the price match. After that I made the purchase.

Michael M: I love my Nolan 43E but need a flip face helmet for when I'm on and off the bike a lot running around town. It's much easier than taking glasses off when removing a full face. Plus around town Hi-Viz is very advisable. On the road I prefer white, but in town with all the cagers, Hi-Viz is way desirable. Sep 28, 2013
A shopper asked: Is the fit similar to the N100? Apr 22, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
John G: Hi. I had a N100E and the one thing I didn't like was the chin strap was too short. This has a slightly longer strap which is good. Otherwise fit may be a little more oval than long but that is just based on recollection.

Better field of vision and quieter than the 100. I bought this and a Shoie at the se time. Rode in today and have the 104 on.

Com unit is also excellent.

Michael M: Yes, the fit is the same. Follow the sizing guide and you will be fine. It is lighter weight and has better air flow and visibility than the 100. The fit will be tight until it breaks in, but that is normal for all helmets. Remember, head shape is important.

In heavy traffic, I prefer the 44 trilogy because the view port is mammoth. I use the 104 for touring.

A shopper asked: Nolans come highly recommended, and I like the looks/functionality of the N104. While checking out the helmet, I noticed that the HiViz version is priced ~$30 more than every other version of the N104 - is that price difference due only to the color? Or is there some additional feature I am not seeing mentioned which makes it more costly? Thanks! Oct 17, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Michael M: Same helmet except for the paint. Hi Viz helmets are more expensive than plan colors. And we'll worth it to me.

Put a Hi Viz next to a regular yellow helmet and the difference is amazing. That's why safety vests are mandated to be Hi Viz.
