Nolan N-Com B4 Plus Bluetooth Kit for N104/N44/N40 Helmets 4 5 26 26
Made to fit I bought this communicator right before a solo 3-week trip out West. Thanks, RevZilla for getting it to me in time! This kit fits perfectly into my Nolan N104. Installation was simple and reasonably quick. Other communicator brands don't fit the Nolan well because the helmet's sun visor control is right where their module clamps onto the helmet. I haven't used other brands of helmet bluetooth enough to compare, but I do find the Nolan reasonably easy to use. Pairing with iphone is easy and works well. Pairing with iphone and ipod at the same time can be tricky, I've gotten frustrated and had to power off and on a few times to make this work. Once connected, sound is good for tiny speakers, and plenty usable up to speeds only legal out West, even wearing foam earplugs. Phone conversations also work well with the helmet closed, even visor open is OK. GREAT to be able to get directions from Google Maps with my phone safely stowed in a rain-proof case. No problems with the helmet electronics after 2 days of riding all day in heavy rain. I have not been able to use the programming app with the helmet since it's only available for Windows and Android. My computer and phone are Apple, and my tablet's version of Android is not compatible with the Nolan app. Battery life is adequate for sunrise-to-sunset riding if I use a wired connection to my ipod instead of the bluetooth for music and don't talk on the phone for more than a few minutes. On a normal 8 hour riding day, battery lasts all day using all the bells and whistles. Recharge takes all night. The kit adds a surprisingly noticeable amount of weight to the helmet. I'm used to it now, but it really seemed like a lot at first. I look forward to trying to communicate with my riding buddies, but have no experience with that yet. September 8, 2015
Looks great, tactile buttons Fits perfectly, as you'd expect from the proprietary system. Finding the operation a little tricky, buttons are tactile enough, it's the menu system that befuddles me. Tinny sound, lacks bass, and the App for IOS doesn't seem to want to work. That aside, if you just want to use a few features, it's absolutely fine, and good quality gear. July 27, 2015
Works only for phone connection nothing else Wish I would have read the reviews b4 ordering. I have a new iPhone 6plus and after hours of installing and reinstalling the unit to my phone it still says it couldn't recognize\connect with the phone even though it was pairing with the phone for calls. I could never get it to play music so it was ONLY pairing for calls nothing else like Spotify etc. What a waste of time. July 6, 2015
Terrible experience, disappointing product I returned this comms system to the Nolan distributor twice for repair, and it has failed again. The build quality and the design of the product is poor. I love the helmet, but I truly regret having purchased this comms system. June 8, 2015
A necessary evil One of the reasons I got the Nolan helmet was because of this Bluetooth, but it is a very expensive unit. Which was all fine save for when I got the unit I find out that the iPhone app doesn't work with it. May 25, 2015
Works as advertised. Have only used about six times, but like it so far. I was pleased to see that I can hear the radio, GPS and callers pretty well even at highway speeds with my ear plugs inserted. The installation in my N-104 helmet was fairly straight forward, except that it took me a little while to figure out how to install firmware upgrade. Overall, it's pretty nice. May 11, 2015
Great sound quality....firmware update little tricky Very easy to install out of the box, with my Nolan 104. Sound quality is very, very good even at high speeds. Phone quality is great and the built in FM radio is a bonus. My only downside is the firmware update. Anytime you have to hack around in windows to get a program to update firmware via USB is never very user friendly....and I'm an IT guy. May 11, 2015
Great product.... not so easy to install. Purchased the Nolan N44 Storm for myself and the wife. Wanted to have some sort of communication between us and also listen to music. The B4 plus works great so far. I had a defective ear piece initially, but Nolan fixed it asap. Install is a little tricky, but if you review the you tube video it helps greatly. I only have two negatives so far. There is no iphone app for the B4 plus. Also the initial download for a windows computer is terrible. You have to manually install the drivers. If you are not at least somewhat proficient in IT this could be an issue.Overall, for the limited time I have had this unit I like it. May 8, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Michael F: I'm no expert, but I think this is really a question of whether your phone supports multiple bluetooth connections. If it does, than I would think two N-Coms would pose no problem. By the way, this is an excellent com. I love it! Dec 19, 2014

Thomas B: Good Morning
I Have an iPhone and a Black berry, and I can get music from both of the phones into My Nolan 104 with the B4 Kit installed. I also talk to my co-rider using the intercom in the B4 kit.
Being able to use the PC to adjust the mikes and audio levels is very nice. I have not tried to adjust using the Android phone app.

Also the same question for the B1 that is for my wires helmet.
Oct 31, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Thomas B: Very Good Question.
The software does not work with the Mac at all.
You have to use a windows softwear only.
Or if you have a non Apple phone. I have heard they have an App for the B4 system

Again thank you for your time. Oct 31, 2014
Michael F: Thomas is correct, no Mac support. I went to the public library and used their PC to set up my radio stations and master volume levels, then just deleted the app when I was done. Dec 19, 2014

Enrique R asked: I have recently ordered a N-Com B4+. I'm waiting to receive it but I have the question how easy is to connect it to a Scalarider device. All my fellow has that brand of device and I bought the Nolan's hoping that will be easy. And other question, to how many Scalarider devices can I connect simoultaneously? Thank you. Aug 25, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Anthony B: Once you have set up the B4+ all you have to do is pair up the scalarider. After that is just a matter of turning it on or off using the menu button on the unit. This turns off the intercom or FM function and puts you in bike to bike mode. Not sure how many you can hook up. Aug 28, 2014
Reply to Anthony Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Kenneth T: You should be able to connect up to four other devices, plus a cell phone and one N-Com. The instruction manual is good and their customer service is great. If you send them an email they will get you in touch with a local rep. Aug 29, 2014

Eugene M asked: Is it possible to connect at the same time bluetooth mp3 player for music and separate phone for calls? Jan 21, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Donald O: Gene, I have an Ncom equipped Nolan helmet, I've never tried to connect two devices, but I doubt that would work. If you have one connected it won't drop one for the other and then reconnect, at least with the Bluetooth devices I have. On my devices, when you turn on a Bluetooth when one is already connected it will say "unavailable" or "out or range" for the one you turned on second.

I do have to say that my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy 5) is a pretty decent mp3 player, and the ability to stream Pandora or similar music program is great. I have to stick with downloaded content when I get out in the country though. This is a nice set up, more convenient than the Scala rider I was using.

Eugene M: Thanks, Donald.
It seems that you're right.

Now i'm using smartphone as mp3 player. But I want to add two-way radio to through Sena SR10 to my bluetooth setup, but i want to keep music too.

I know that phone can be connected through SR10 using Handsfree Bluetooth Profile (HFP).
And music require A2DP bluetooth profile.
So i've thought that it can be combined.

I think i'll borrow bluetooth iPod from my friend and i'll test with my bX4 Jan 21, 2015
Thomas B: Very good question. I have not done that configuration. I have three different unites connected to my N104 two phones one N44 Jan 21, 2015

Is this kit compatible with the N43?
If not, what is the correct one?
Thank you

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chris G: Omar,
I put the B4 Bluetooth kit into the N44 helmet.
I think the earlier model bluetooth kit would be required for the N43.
I don't think the B4 kit is compatible with your Helmet.
Hope this helps.

Or is that only possible with a sena while connected to sena backpack gp10? Mar 29, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gregory C: NO Only an incoming 3.5 connection. I know what you want to do. Use noise cancelling ear buds; to protect your ears and get some half way decent sound. This would be a great system if it had that capability.. May 23, 2014

A shopper asked: what is the difference between the B4 and the B4+ systems? Mar 29, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kenneth T: According to the Nolan website, the B4+ has DSP noise reduction. That is the only difference that I can find.

The weather had been bad so I have not had a chance to try it on the bike, but the Bluetooth listen/talk phone call quality to my iPhone is excellent. The answering party cannot tell the difference. The streaming audio quality is also good - just not quite as good as high quality ear buds

A S asked: Can this unit also be hooked up via an external wire from the helmet into the OEM hookup for a Goldwing 1800. (Like the original N-Com Basic Kit 2)? Mar 12, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jedediah K: This NCOM has a 3.5mm input jack, so you should be able to get the audio out of the bike system.

Doing a quick google search also shows some 3.5 to bluetooth adapters that would allow you to use that input without having a wire going up to your helmet.
