Moose Racing Expedition Luggage Rack System KLR650 2008-2014
Easy Installation, Quick Release Somewhat (Initially) Frustrating
I bought this rack to use on my KLR650 in conjunction with the Moose Racing Pelican cases and a soft rear top bag. As you know the stock rear luggage rack is essentially a slick surface with grab handles and sketchy tie down points. Since I wanted a better rack and the capability to add side bags (and protection) I went with this system.
Install was pretty easy with minimal references to instructions. Don't tighten anything down all the way and work around the bike from the top to the sides, adding support bars under the rear foot peg mounts and wrapping around the license plate. Tighten it all down and don't forget the loctite blue just in case.
The racks look great and open up a wide array of options when securing items down, even a dry bag across the back seat. The one item that was frustrating was the quick release system, I'm hoping it just needs to be broken in. It took me quite a while just to get the right side rack released from the system (actually had to pull the cotter pin and release the spring)...and then once mounted to the back of the Pelican cases getting those BACK into the racks was nothing short of a miracle. SUPER tight tolerances and lots of shoving / cussing / pulling. I'm thinking of getting dry bags for the inside of the cases so that I don't have to remove them much, which sort of defeats the purpose but oh well.
Back to the rack, it's a nice system and I'm pleased with the level of protection it provides. For the price point you really can't go wrong. Get service from Revzilla.

Good design poor mounting instructons
The frame was a little tweaked from shipping when I got it out of the box but i need it for the next weekend and i straightened it out and put it on.
Bolting the back brace on at factory would have prevented it.
The instructions leave allot to the imagination!!!
They should list bolt sizes and size of spacers for each step.
The frame was too wide for front top mount (were orig. rack mounted) I used a stack of washers to fill the gap on each side.
I am pleased with with how it turned out in the end even with the above issues.

Versitile, rugged rack. Easy to install.
Very pleased with this rack system! I layed the bike down with some PSI (Pelican military cases) installed on the trail a few times and it seems very stout and rugged. Bike layed fully on the cases and crash bars without anything looking like it was going to break or bend. The cases come off in 2 seconds and re install just as easy. Makes it slick to take the case off, lay it on your seat, and rummage through you luggage without everything spilling out. I hope they will sell just the mounts for more cases so I can mount larger cases for longer trips as well. They are more money than some more simple rack systems, but with these you don't have to spin wing nuts off to unmount your cases. Just pull the spring loaded pin and lift the case up. The fit was perfect, everything lined up just like stock. All you have to do is reach behind your fender and feed out another inch or 2 of wire for moving your turn signals. Big improvement over my old soft bags.

Well built rack, easy install and looks great! I was considering building my own until I found this rack. It lived up to my expectations, I'm totally satisfied.
