Metzeler K3 Racetec Interact Rear Tires

General Features:

  • The new Racetec adopts INTERACT™ technology, the latest evolution of the patented 0° steel belt
  • The new winding process of a 0° steel belt reduces the contribution made by belts and carcass to stress resistance all along the profile
  • Lower tension in the crown area creates more flexibility and the tire can adapt itself better to the road surface, enlarging its footprint
  • High steel belt winding tension in the shoulder area ensures maximum and uniform pressure on the contact patch: the trajectory is therefore always precise, without any deviation

Tread Design:

The tread has the same design as Racetec K0, K1, K2, DOT racing tires. The performance-oriented development of land/sea ratio distribution respects FIM Supersport regulations, and most of grooves are concentrated on mid-lean area, leaving shoulders slick-like.
Pattern design has been developed to enhance up to excellence:

  • Dry grip
  • Consistency of performance
  • Wear regularity through maximized tread compactness
  • Line holding
  • Stability

The result is therefore a performance of the tire nearly like a slick, maximizing the rubber on the ground.

Structure:

The application of CMT (Contour Modeling Technology), tested in competitions, guarantees fast corner entry and stable and precise trajectory for a progressive cornering behavior.
On the rear, the differentiated radii distribution and a flatter shape at lean zone gives maximum cornering support and higher stability when accelerating out of corners.
The structure of Racetec K3 is strictly derived from the Racing Supersport version, with optimizations aimed to improve the road performance, with particular focus on the stability on straight line.
Metzeler has deployed the most innovative technologies to Racetec:

  • Intelligent Tensioning Technology (differentiated tensioning of carcass and belt across x-section) to  widen the contact area at lean
  • Patented 0° Steel Belt construction that grants a higher dimensional stability in every condition of use

Compound:

Hi-performance chemicals, combined with an enhanced Curing system give the tire:

  • high performance stability, both on road and on racetrack
  • fast warm-up
  • regular wear, even at high temperatures coming form prolonged use or severe racetrack conditions.

(W-) rated for speeds of 168+ mph.

Very sticky. Can't speak for tread life.
Lots of grip. Great tire. Haven't ridden long though so no tread history.

Nice Tire
This is my stock tire. In 7k miles I've run through 2 sets. I ride pretty aggressively on back roads in the twisties but also put a decent amount of around town mileage on them. The center patch wears out quick since its softer and provides greater take-off traction. I've had them on the track and they performed brilliantly. Wet traction is questionable. I took off from a stop into a turn a couple times in wet conditions and had some traction loss under mild power.

I recommend them for someone spending most of the time in dry conditions in the twisties. I do not recommend them for someone that is trying to commute back and forth to work.

Rear tire squares off prematurely
This tire was stock on my 2015 Triumph Speed Triple. Grip is great when getting it down low in the corners. Tire heats up quickly and instills confidence while riding. The biggest problem is that the center part of the rear tire squares off way too quickly. I have just 3500 miles on the bike, and the tire belts are already showing through. This seems way premature . If you plan to do any significant straight up riding/commuting, I'd look elsewhere. Wet traction is not great, but I don't ride in rain often, and when I do get caught, I'm super cautious anyway. This is a great tire for dry-road twisties. Not much else.

Best 'all-around' street/track tire on the market
These tires heat up amazingly fast and they stick and grip like crazy at the race track as well as on the street and have excellent line tracking on cornering. Pretty decent wet traction as well. If you ride alot on street and at the track, I found these tires are the best to get as they have best all around performance on both. If you mostly ride at the track but need a street legal tire, then I suggest to go with the Pirelli Supercorsa SP but as they don't heat up as fast I personally don't recommend the Supercorsa's on the street unless you use them in hot weather. Get the K3! Great anywhere, everywhere.
