It does the job The Maier Rear Fender BMW for the R1200GS does just what it says it does. Its a great extension of the inner fender and offers great protection from road/trail dirt. This went on a 07 and 09 12GS. The 07 has and Ohlins suspension with no mud gauge. The 09 has Wilbers ESA with the OEM mud guard. Both guards were installed without causing issues for the suspension. The cost was 1/3rd what the other brand cost and as far as I can tell there is no difference. Even with the cost saving its still WAY over priced. You get a piece of molded plastic, 4 zip ties, 2 bolts and instructions. $25 would be a much more realistic price. The more expensive option is a complete waist of money while this is only a mild waist of money. The installation is simple if you don't count the two screws. It took about 10 minutes per screw to get them threaded. This really isn't cause buy the product but by trying to line up 2 inner fenders and a screw hole all while being upside-down and over the rear tire. Overall its a good product and when you compare it to the other options its a steal. Granted its still over priced, but at least it to painfully over priced. October 19, 2015
Works The installation was a snap and the fit is perfect. BMW should have installed something like that at the factory. August 10, 2015
Great product for the price. It was easy to install on my 2011 R1200GS. Looks great. June 15, 2015
Good product Took 10 minutes to install and protects the entire shock area and forward end of rear wheel from debris. Considering it was a plastic mold with only 2 screws and 4 zip ties, it could be slightly cheaper. BMW should have this taken care of in the first place, but quite happy with it. April 8, 2015
Great product Great piece of kit. Installs in less than 5 minutes, looks factory and does a great job of protecting your shock and swing arm from dirt and road grime. A must have. April 6, 2015
As usual Revzilla delivers! Product is of quality and fits perfectly. I took 5 minutes to install it. Oh! almos forgot. Shipping to Brazil was fast and no hassles through customs. March 2, 2015
Does what it's intended to do I got this for a couple of reasons. First, I was tired of trying to clean all the tight spaces that get caked with crud in the swingarm and rear spring of my GS. Second, I don't always have the time to clean winter salt and grime out immediately. This offers a lot of coverage, and does a good job of keeping tire "spew out of the rear suspension/engine area. Honestly, it should have been covered better from the factory, but this does the job! March 20, 2015
I have not ridden much, if any, since install, but I love the product Good product, good looks, easy and quick installation. January 24, 2015

A shopper asked: I just put new Ohlins on my R12GS and have looked at the Machine Art Moto Mudsling for $149.00 and this similar Maier product for $53.00. The Moto Mudsling looks to be a bit larger and have better coverage but, my question is; what is the difference between the two aside from the huge price difference......is the Moto Mudsling 3 times as good as the Maier product?

Ken M M: Hey Fred, Myself and two of my friends all have the maier product and have found them to be excellent. I looked at the moto product and honestly could not find a solid reason to pay way more for it. We installed them on 2 different gs machines. The 700 and, two 800's and it was easy to install and the coverage was perfect. Next to my skid plate it has been the best aftermarket part that I put on. My motor and shock remain pretty dirt free and we do a lot of off road riding. For a part that goes unnoticed its one of the first things I would put on any gs. I'm sure the mudslinger will do the same job as the maier but there is no way it will do three times the job. To be honest I would say performance wise you would find zero difference between the two. Hope this makes your decision a little easier

Cheers, Kenny.

vince v: I asked same question about the one for the f700 but ordered anyway. when it came it was just a piece of plastic, until I fitted it and used it. Maier fit perfect, was cheaper, and works excellent. I would buy theirs again in a second. I can only say it works perfect for me, does the job, and goes on easy. Nov 25, 2013

Matthew J: No the mudsling would not be 3x better. Just installed the maier last night. Bit tricky to do the final adjustments but overall fits excellent and looks great. Save your money for fuel. The maier is as advertised. Nov 25, 2013
