MachineartMoto X-Head for Water Cooled BMW R1200GS / R1200GSA / R1200RT / R1200R / R1200RS

X-Head Cylinder Guards provide wide coverage in a tough, 5mm thick stylish shape that protects the vulnerable magnesium valve covers of R1200 hexhead engines.  When a bike is dropped, even at a standstill, a cylinder first hits the ground at its front corner, then rolls onto its face before settling back down on the lower edge. The wide coverage X-Head design protects both the valve and spark plug covers. Openings in the face are designed-in to provide air flow over the valve cover, while the molded-in texture at the bottom will help hide minor abrasion.

X-Heads are molded in a high temperature resistant nylon and installation takes five minutes - slightly longer on RT’s - with included stainless steel bolts. The bolt threads are coated with Nyloc thread locking patch to keep the bolts from loosening.

If your crash bars have had an impact, check that there is still a minimum of 15mm clearance between the crash bars and the X-Heads.

Sold in pairs.

Fit and finish perfect - Product fit great and imo looks great. I selected "average" only because I haven't tested the effectiveness of the product, (hopefully never will), but I did my research before purchasing and others have put it to the test. I am happy with my purchase. Less than half the price of full steel cage bars while keeping the profile width to a minimum.. November 16, 2015
Excellent for and finish. Robust. Quality of the product was excellent. Installation was easy. Expensive for what it is - 2 pieces each of plastic and rubber with extra screws. Given what it protects you'd be glad that it was there so I can only increase bang for buck rating to average. October 26, 2015
Fair price for a good product Good quality overall, easy to install, protects and fits as promissed. Good value for the money. October 5, 2015
Solid and looks great! Very easy installation while following along with video. Looks great and feels very durable. September 15, 2015
Great product easy install After struggling to install some lights on my bike, this was a breeze. Looks great on the bike and watching the youtube video for the install made it very easy. Took about 15 minutes. Gives me a bit of piece of mind until I get my engine crash bars. September 14, 2015
A must have for all airheads I added these wonderful covers to my 2015 R1200RTWC, with the hope I never have to use them. However, Murphy and his laws witll at some point appear to prove that "it will happen, just a mater of time". The install took honestly 10 mins to complete both sides. two hex bolts off, cover on, replace one hex and tighten the other (keep your factory hex bolt JIC). Perfect fit! Great protection (BTW new head BMW covers are $1,500), and beats all other options on the market. Now would install these on my dirt GS? no. They might work (not testing them) to protect a large rock hit, but then again I use steal bars to protect everything else on the GS, these belong on a street bike, that might get knocked over in the garage or a slow speed drop in a parking lot, these are not sliders people! Great Product MachineartMoto!!!! August 31, 2015
For those who do not want crash bars (or do) I found this to be the right fit for my needs. 80% tarmac/20% gravel mountain roads. Easy install, fit nice and look good. Sure protection is minimal but it's better than nothing. If you have a slow low side fall, tip the bike over or hit a branch here and there, this is where these help. Oh, did I mention they good too(I did). August 30, 2015
Great quality product that looks good. There are a lot of ways your cylinder heads could get scratched. Car door in the next parking spot, teenage daughter w/golf cart in garage, tip over, slide, etc. When I have my umbrella, it doesn't rain. Once you put these on, you reduce the risk of all the above, but even if they do happen, your cylinders are safe. These are made from a very dense, solid, excellent quality material. They look good installed on the bike, and installation is pretty simple. I highly recommend. I'd still add crash bars though. August 22, 2015

Xavier L asked: Hi

Will these fit the R nine T?
Jun 5, 2015

Kim R: No it won't fit your R nine T. You need the one that fits the oil cooled BMW. Any 2010-2013 hex head style will fit your R nine T. Check the machine art web site to make sure you will order the correct one.

Preston F: No they will not. The RnineT is the oil cooled engine. These are for the Liquid cooled engine. The heads are different. Search for your model. But they are awesome! You just need the ones to fit yours! Jun 5, 2015
