MachineartMoto X-Head for Water Cooled BMW R1200GS / R1200GSA / R1200RT / R1200R / R1200RS
X-Head Cylinder Guards provide wide coverage in a tough, 5mm thick stylish shape that protects the vulnerable magnesium valve covers of R1200 hexhead engines. When a bike is dropped, even at a standstill, a cylinder first hits the ground at its front corner, then rolls onto its face before settling back down on the lower edge. The wide coverage X-Head design protects both the valve and spark plug covers. Openings in the face are designed-in to provide air flow over the valve cover, while the molded-in texture at the bottom will help hide minor abrasion.
X-Heads are molded in a high temperature resistant nylon and installation takes five minutes - slightly longer on RT’s - with included stainless steel bolts. The bolt threads are coated with Nyloc thread locking patch to keep the bolts from loosening.
If your crash bars have had an impact, check that there is still a minimum of 15mm clearance between the crash bars and the X-Heads.
MachineartMoto X-Head BMW R1200GS / RT / RS / R
After viewing the installation video on the machine art moto's web site I was able to install this product myself in less than 30 minutes for both sides. I have other products from this company and endorse everything they make. You won't be disappointed!

Best Cylinder Head Guards out there
Buy these quick, before you lose your balance while adjusting your mirror with the wrong hand and you drop your bike in your driveway, marring your new bike's cylinder head.
I installed the hexhead version of these on my 2007 bike and didn't buy them soon enough for my 2014. They are far superior to the OEM cylinder head guards from BMW. I had the OEM guards on my 2007, and those break off in a flash and contribute to damaging your cylinder heads.
The machineartmoto guards are very substantial, are less likely to break off and will do a much better job protecting your cylinder heads from damage than OEM guards or expensive 3rd party metal ones. That said, I would not consider these a replacement for crash bars. Get both.
The only downside of the machineartmoto guards is that you need to use one of the cylinder head bolts to attach them, and as a result, you will need a torque wrench to properly re-tighten the cylinder head bolt as part of your install. There's an excellent video on YouTube of someone at machineartmoto installing these on a bike.
** Double check by searching the web that these guards will fit with your engine protection bars. Some engine protection bars fit more snugly than others.

Cheaper, Better, Head Protection
Cheaper, lighter, and better head protection than big metal crash bars. Looks much better too in my opinion. Installation was very fast and easy; less than 15 minutes.
Save yourself some cash, get these.

Darius D: Had a slow speed fall while on a trail so outside of future protection it also covered up some scratches on the valve cover. I also purchased the AltRider Crash Bars and these fit very well with them. They even look better in person - smart part!Dec 4, 2014
John W: MachineartMoto valve cover protectors worked well on my last BMW boxer Hexhead, so I'm installing a pair on my new R1200GSW.Aug 24, 2014
Jose R M: For a better protection the crash bars always leave a space in between were a rock can come trought and damage the cylinder head.Jul 29, 2014
Kim R:No it won't fit your R nine T. You need the one that fits the oil cooled BMW. Any 2010-2013 hex head style will fit your R nine T. Check the machine art web site to make sure you will order the correct one. Jun 5, 2015
Preston F:No they will not. The RnineT is the oil cooled engine. These are for the Liquid cooled engine. The heads are different. Search for your model. But they are awesome! You just need the ones to fit yours!Jun 5, 2015
Robert E:These are model specific parts and yes, I believe they do make them for the R nine T (cool bike, btw). You may want to call Revzilla customer service to make sure you're ordering the right part number.Jun 5, 2015
