Leatt Pro 5.5 HD Chest Protector

The 5.5's are Leatt’s most protective line of chest protectors. The Chest Protector 5.5 Pro HD is the Top Of The Line version of the 5.5 chest protector line. Specifically designed to meet the highest safety approvals for front, back and shoulder impact protection. But they did not stop there. The Pro HD has added Hardshell flank protection lined with 3DF foam. This flank protection overlaps with the front and back plates creating an integrating, multilayer protection area over some of your most vulnerable parts.

Three dimensional design with eight multi layer, articulating plates for a great fit. It has also been designed to integrate perfectly with all Leatt neck braces, although it works equally well without a neck brace. Exclusive FlipFit front and rear, movable, plates allow your neck brace to fit under the protector. BraceOn strap system attaches the protector to the neck brace yet provides independent movement of body, brace and chest protector. The 5.5 line of protectors are the best fitting, most protective line of hard shell protectors available today.

  • The back of protector meets the highest back impact CE approval, CE EN 1621-2, Level 2

A little warm, put well made In the spirit of "close the barn door after the horse got out", I bought this protector AFTER I was chased off the road and ruptured my spleen. It does have good coverage in the flank as well as chest and back. I am a bit large and it fits well but can be warm, as expected. November 2, 2015
Comprehensive rib cage and shoulder protection Due to a recent crash with rib injuries a new chest protector was needed. Chose this model based upon reviews indicating it will provide a significant increase in protection. Have only worn it once so far. Impressions; a bit warm when worn under a jersey, once moving it disappeared from my awareness of having it on. Can't and hope to never be able to vouch for its ability to protect. Dislikes; one of the shoulder cup / arm pad assemblies detached when removing the gear when the ride was over. It may not have been properly attached beforehand. October 18, 2015
The Best Pressure Suit Alternative I have been wearing pressure suits for off road riding since I started 6 years back. After many years of overheating and feeling restricted I decided I had enough and needed to find an alternative. My first concern was not to take a big hit in the protection area but still be cool. This armor fit the bill perfectly in every way. CE Level 2 protection front and back and level 1 on the shoulders. I even bought the body protector from leatt first and can say the armor is almost identical. There is a bit more soft padding on the body protector. But after determining this was almost just as good i stuck with it. This is not some cheap roost deflector. This is the real deal off road protection. I have not crashed in it yet but I can trust it to save my hide. Fit is great and easily adjusted, it is extremely comfortable and has great air flow. The weight is a lot less then the pressure suits I have worn. I am probably biased on the air flow since I had pressure suits before this. It looks great too, but I wouldn't suggest wearing it under a jersey, it is a bit bulky for that. Also the ability to add in a neck brace is a huge plus for me! If you are trying to find that perfect compromise for a pressure suit this is your buy. Just add elbow guards and you are good to go, i recommend the Fox Racing Titan Pros, you will need to remove the tricep armor for them though. June 29, 2015
Nice protector but Leatt and Revzilla service is even better I use this protector for about 6 month.. about 40 hours. it fits great, Protection is good and few times I sampled the dirt, I walked away with no injury. The real story is that It broke recently, so I contacted revzilla to see if they would Warranty it. in 3 days, I had 100% credit in my account. outstanding service and great to know that Leatt will stand behind their product no questions asked. I like my protection, so will likely Upgrade to different version of Leatt. but overall, I could not be happier with Leatt and Revzilla June 17, 2015
Great fit I was really surprised by how comfortable this was. Under normal riding I didnt notice it at all and under tough terrain its still barely noticeable. For the amount of protection this offers I think its great. I have yet to wear this with just a jersey on underneath so I don't know how well it vents but with a jacket on it definitely gets warm especially when your exertion level increases. On the highway its not bad. I had one low-side in the dirt, I landed on my side and didnt feel anything. April 15, 2015
Best chest protector ever I heard these fit small so I bought the xl and glad I did. I am 6'4" tall and 150lbs so i never buy extra large anything but due to my height I did. Thankfully the 5.5 Pro HD is very adjustable so I was able to adjust everything in so the xl fit my thin frame perfect and the extra height in the xl was a must. It is extremely comfortable and I have never felt safer. Makes all other roost or chest protectors look like a terd. Love it, money well spent. August 16, 2014
Best Rib Protection On The Market! Leatt Pro 5.5 HD Chest Protector has the best Rib protection on the market. I tried a lot of different full body armor style uppers and other chest protectors but none have good or any rib protection. They might say they do but a little piece of rubber or a strap that goes over your rib area does not count. The only negatives and they are small. I think the shoulder pad adjustments should just be mounted off the main shoulder strap and the back protector could be made longer. KTM XC-F 350 June 9, 2014
Exactly what I've been looking for (almost) I recently had a pretty high speed crash wearing a Leatt Adventure Lite chest protector. The product did fine, but I think my elbow broke some of my ribs (well, something did, lol). So, I wanted something that would protect my ribs more, and this came out. It's exactly what I was looking for. Yes, it is a little odd putting your arms down at your side, but I for one ride with my arms out in front of me, so that's ok! The 5.5 Pro has plenty of protection all around and is VERY adjustable. Fits great! I moved the shoulder protectors so they sit slightly forward, that way they'll hopefully be in just the right place should I ever need them (assuming I'd be traveling in a forward direction) I think this is the product I was looking for for a long time. Thumbs up! April 21, 2014

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Benjamin S: I was looking for a new pressure suit to replace my dainese one. However I tried the Leatt body protector and the armor was identical to what is in this chest protector. I decided on going with the better ventilation and fit this provided over the pressure suit. Jun 23, 2015
Nicholas T: Rib protection. Plus CE rated padding Mar 24, 2015
Gary R: Because this rig is excellent and I am not wanting to break my bones. I like to ride, not lay in a hospital bed. Mar 6, 2015
Patrick D: Very comfortable and protects everything. Dec 23, 2014
A s: Wanted rib protection Nov 4, 2014
Jeff P: I need some rib protection after breaking some earlier this year and some additional airflow for the hot summer. Plus, it should work well with my neck leatt neck brace. My existing pressure suit fails in all of those areas and is better for temperatures under 90 degrees. I'm hoping this works out for my intended purpose. I purchased some separate elbow pads and a kidney belt to create a system similar to my pressure suit. Jul 29, 2014
Dan F: I've been looking at chest protectors for several months and was continually reading about post crash riders complaints
of rib injuries. I was impressed by the wrap around coverage of the Pro 5.5,

A shopper asked: Does the black one have the white trim around all the plates [shoulder pads, rib protector, and clavicle area} like the pictures? Or is it basically just all black? Jun 28, 2015

Rob B: Mine is primarily black with white plastic accents at the kidney pads and several other non descript areas.

One additional comment, this protector is on the warm side

A shopper asked: Are the shoulder protectors removable? Can this product be used under a jacket?

Thank you in advance

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rob B: Yes the shoulder protectors are removable. I personally like the idea of protecting my collar bone and shoulders, so I would never take them off.

I wear mine over my enduro jacket when it's raining or cold.

If your going to purchase a jacket, purchase one or two sizes larger and wear the Leatt under your jacket with the shoulder protectors. Collar bones are one of the more common breaks among cyclist. (motorized or not)

David H: Yes the shoulder are removable with a little finesse. As for fitting a jacket, only if your jacket is loose fit. The rib protection is very thick. Mar 5, 2015

Kurt R: The shoulder protectors are removable. I wear mine (with the shoulder protectors) under an Olympia jacket. I have taken the jackets armour out. Mar 5, 2015

Connor L asked: I can see that this product has an excellent impact rating on the back, but from the look of the pictures it does not appear to have a continuous surface. In the event of a slide, would the back armor be likely to catch catch on objects and in the event of a fall, would the two raised surfaces create uneven load points across the spine? Aug 21, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Richard B: Connor,
This is a chest protector with back protection. It's the best I had for adventure off road riding,
It sounds like you might be looking for a armor jacket of even a full suit with the question you pose.
The great thing about revzilla is you can order it and see if it meets you needs after trying it on. I did this for my wife and after several protectors we found what she wanted and is very pleased.

SUZANNE E: This is designed more for impact rather than slides. It is for dirt biking not street. Surface is comparable to others in this category. Coverage is much better than most. Aug 21, 2015

Sangjoon K asked: What kind of Rib protection this product offers?

I am comparing this with Troy Lee CP5955, chest protector with plastic hard rib guard.
If you have any experience with this product, comparison would be ideal.

My main question is what sort of protection this product offers?
Hard plastic? or Soft?

Also, do you know any decent kidney belt that can go with it?

Thank you in advance.

Rob B: What I love about this chest protector is that everything is adjustable. I probably spent a good half hour dialing it in to fit me just right. It's like it was taylor made for me, that's how nice it fits. All the hard plastic plates are cushioned/padded and adjust in a multitude of ways to conform to your body.

Protection is the best I've ever experenced and the reason I went for Leatt Pro 5.5. Rib, shoulder, back, arm and chest protection is as good as it gets. I am totally satisfied with this product.

As for kidney belts, I'm still wearing a Thor series 200 which is long overdue for replacement. But it's been good to me and I like it a lot. Now that you mention it, maybe I'll put one on my Christmas wish list.

darren s: I havn't tried a lot of other brands, but tried to find the best protection i could find by reading reviews and advertisements. It is very solid plastic that overlays in layers and is very adjustable. I love it. I have seen some other brands since, but none better. It is designed to fit with their neck brace too but i don't have one. Anyway...it is well made and gives serious protection. I'm getting old and that's what I needed. I've already taken some pretty good spills with it. I especially like the side rib protection. Buy it. Wear it. The Tricep pads fit under my fox pro elbow guards for extra protection. Oct 17, 2014

Nate G asked: Is it possible for the Leatt Pro 5.5 HD Chest Protector to be used in conjunction with (either over or under) the Leatt Adventure Body Protector? Jul 2, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Dan F: No iin my opinion it would not be possible to wear the adventure body suit under or over the 5.5. The redundant layer would shift around on top of the first layer and actually reduce mobility. It would also cause interference with the Leatt neck brace in my opinion. I have however added a kidney belt beneath the Leatt
5.5 for some additional support and the 2 work well together.
