Leatt GPX 5.5 Neck Brace

Leatt believes that the 5.5 Neck Brace is the most technologically advanced neck brace in the world. The CE certified 5.5 neck brace balances the needs of comfort, effectiveness and safety by allowing greater freedom of movement and adjustment to more closely meet the needs of top level racers whilst Leatt’s commitment to safety ensures that key safety features pioneered by Leatt are built into each brace.

The core of what makes Leatt neck braces work is Alternative Load Path Technology (ALPT), and for the ALPT to work optimall, neck braces must fit correctly. The adjustability built into all Leatt neck braces is not just for comfort, but to ensure a correct fit that assists in optimizing effectiveness of your neck brace. The front and rear sliding SureFit adjusters can be set for your personal body shape, without tools, in less than 30 seconds. The brace can also be readjusted as necessary for growing kids or when worn with different apparel. To further optimize fit, the improved CoreFlex rear thoracic strut has an exclusive feature that allows it to be adjusted to 4 setting angles. This is done with a simple elastomeric bumper that can be set at 0, 5, 10 or 15 degrees in seconds.

The 5.5 has lowered side areas, below the ear, that increases comfort and wearability, especially on kids, smaller statured riders and riders with shorter necks. A simple pop off shoulder pad that can raise or lower your brace to suit your neck length or helmet rim profiles. Both the front and the back feature has the new split design that promotes broader dissipation of energy transmitted to the body and have new molded padding for greater comfort. The semi-rigid chassis is flexible and adjustable enough to fit most riders’ body shape while the structure remains rigid enough to help transmit energy during an impact while multiple engineered fracture points and crumple zones will bend or break away at pre-determined stress levels to help contribute to a riders’ safety. The improved CoreFlex rear thoracic strut is more comfortable than ever and still has the engineered fracture point at the top that allows it to break away in certain severe impacts. The strut is lined with the same soft padding as on all the surfaces that ride against your body, and this protective padding is on the brace edges facing inwards towards the soft tissues of the neck. The injected foam padding is more durable and easier to clean than ever before and designed to accommodate custom sticker kits.

Great product and much improved over previous versions
I found this neckbrace to be very easy to set up requires no tools for adjustment and is extremely lightweight and comfortable over previous versions. The push button release is very handy and makes putting the brace on and off much easier I would recommend this neckbrace over any other.

Inexpensive protection
When you think about it! $300+ isn't really all that much to help protect you from what otherwise would be a life changing experience . I've spent more on a part for a bike, I'm thinking my neck is worth it...

A better widget
I owned an earlier model and "Fly" emblazened version of the Leatt neck brace. This one is certainly more user friendly. It is lighter overall. The folding rear strut makes good sense and is easily adjusted for back angle. Overall adjustability is very much improved on this unit. It integrates with the 5.5 Pro HD armor nicely.

wonderful fit, finish, and feeling of safety
After watching some crashes on youtube, and having worked on numerous neck injuries as a massage therapist I was looking for some insurance while dirt riding. This Leatt neck brace fits my needs perfectly. Great materials, fit, finish, ease of use, and feelings of safety while riding. Have not crashed yet and hope not too, but who knows whats around the next corner. I am 195 lbs. and 6 ft. and the lrg. size fits perfectly out of the box. Fits well with my Leatt body protector; and you get what you pay for.

Easy to Get On & Off
I purchased my GPX 5.5 neck brace for adventure riding. Both on my big bike and smaller WR250R. I can get the Leatt to work with my body armor and jacket over body armor. Easy to get the neck brace on and off. Since posting these photos, I have lowered the neck brace to sit flatter on my shoulder.

I have yet to experience a fall with it and hope I never have to .

Great product at a great price
Neck brace technology has come a long ways in the last 10 years and Dr. Leatt has been the pioneer of many of the advancements. You can find every detail on how this neck brace is tested and verified to work on Leatts website. I had a serious accident several years ago where I injured my neck which I believe could have been avoided with this neck brace. $300-$400 is a minor investment to protect your neck and your quality of life. Compared to other manufacturers in my opinion the Leatt is the most comfortable. The fit and finish is also excellent. I'm using this neck brace with the Fox Airframe chest protector and it works perfectly with it.

Why ride without one?
Integrates really well with Leatt 5.5 HD pro armor...no need for the straps...slides right into receiver slots both front and back; and there it stays until you press the release button and take it off. Well thought out. I did tape on a little piece of 7/8" thick foam on each side--where the rubber pads rest on my shoulders. I'm a bit of a long necked geek--and I wanted the helmet and brace to make contact earlier. Got used to it in minutes and now I don't even notice that it's there. I was concerned about wearing it with the jacket...and it is a compromise. But I just zip up as far as I can get my jacket to go and sort of tuck it in around the brace. Not perfect--but not too bad. I don't ride that much in the rain. YMMV. Pretty cheap insurance...

Haven't had a neck snapping crash
This is the type of product that is better reviewed by an independent lap, not some rider behind a keyboard.

Since I believe in ATGATT, this was the last piece to my preparation puzzle. I expect it to work fine whether roasting the pavement on the K1300S, or pounding through the wilderness on the KLR650.

I choose this item because I am one year new to motocross and do not have a neck brace. I have done my research and the Leatt 5.5 seems to be the best neck brace for me and in my price range.

Is this brace compatible with leatt Body armor? Or just with leatt 5.5 chest protector?
A shopper on Nov 9, 2014
How does this brace, or a similar style work with jackets like the Klim Badlands that have large back protectors in them? Concerned that the rear support of the brace would sit on top of the back protector of the jacket. Also saw the note that the street brace is not recommended for Dual Sport helmets, any issue with this brace and an Arai XD4?
John A on Mar 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have I believe C- Rated armor in my leather jackets. I had a serious neck operation and my surgeon review the necke brace and said this might save me from breaking my neck. Of course there's no guarantee that a serious accident might still be harmful. But this brace fits perfect a lot of adjustability. If I was able I would show you a picture of my x-ray. I myself highly recommend this brace.
I am looking for a neck brace that would work with both my off-road body armor and my Aerostich riding suit. Is this brace worn over your gear and do you think it would work with both types of riding suits?
A shopper on Jun 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm wearing it over a Klim jacket & have used both a street & an offroad helmet. Don't even know it's there.
Is this brace compatible with the Arai XD4?
Rami D on Oct 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes
For those that ride dirt bikes - what jerseys do you guys wear that fit over this?
A shopper on Oct 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I wear my Klim jersey over it. I had to order it 2 sizes larger to fit over my chest protection (Leatt 5.0) and my neck brace the (Leatt 5.5) Hope that helps. Buy them 2 sizes larger. You can wear the neck brace by itself on top of your jersey. I see it a lot. Glad your wearing one, it saved me a few times this year alone.
Does anyone know how much the GPX 5.5 neck brace weighs? I see the new GPX 6.5 is partially carbon and weighs 600 grams (21 ounces or ~1.4 pounds) so how much heavier is the older 5.5 model? Thanks!
Laurie B on Oct 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: In short......I'm not sure how much it weighs......that said, I just wore it (integrated with the 5.5 upper body armour) for two days and weight was a non issue. Were it something supported by the head and neck....then I'd be more concerned.

I owned an older Leatt brace (DBX) that was a ton bulkier and restrictive to movement in comparison with the 5.5......

If you have deep pockets...go for the carbon...why not?
