Awesome Helmet Especially w/ the Transitions Shield
Had to replace my Shark Evoline 3ST due to the fact that I dropped it more than one in its lifetime and it was time to replace it anyways. LOVE how light the helmet is despite the fact that it doesn't have the versatility that my Evoline had. I got a large and it fits very nicely on the head. The liner material is very nice. I also have the transitions lens (Revzilla is/was running a special promo to where you actually get the lens free; Thank you Revzilla#. I like the lens and can't really tell when it shifts over to the dark smoke; it switches over seemlessly and keeps my eyes from frying. Also like that it comes with pinlock. My only complaint is that it does not have cutouts for earphones #bluetooth headset) but it seems like my earphones could still possibly work.

My research payed off!
I bought this helmet after extensively researching the features that I was wanting out of a helmet.

This helmet was a clear winner.

I would like to offer the following review after using this helmet.

Style:
This helmet looks great! Even my opinionated fellow riders say they like its look. No stickers for this lid!

Weight:
This helmet is very light. Wearing it all day was no problem on my neck. It felt no different than wearing a hat all day.

Comfort:
I wear glasses, and this was an issue with my last helmet.
Not only was it hard to work my glasses into my old helmet,
it also created a pressure point along the side of my head.
Not so with this helmet, my glasses slide in minimum effort.
And due to the layout of the cheek pads, no pressure point and discomfort behind my ears from my glasses rubbing against them. This is a big plus in my book.

Airflow:
The first morning I used the helmet I had the vents open on the top. It was in the low 50s.( I also did not have anti-fog shield pinned in, more on that below).
Halfway to work it felt like I had two ice cubes in my helmet close to where the two rear vents were. This sensation went away whenever I was stopped.
During the day when the temp was around 80, the helmet was very comfortable. It never felt hot or stuffy except for when I was stopped. It was a must for me to open my shield.
I would have to say the airflow is great based on those experiences.

Anti-fog:
That first morning, as I mentioned earlier, was in the low 50s.
Not having my anti-fog installed made it impossible to ride with shield down. The next morning I slipped it in and rode to work without it fogging up once. That insert really works!

Misc:
When you close the shield on this helmet it makes a nice thud sound, like it is really sealed well.

I feel I made an excellent choice in my helmet purchase.

super light helmet!
I searched and searched for a super light helmet and read TONS of helmet reviews for a year before stumbling on to the Kestrel carbon. I have major neck problems and NEED a really light helmet ( less than 1450 grams). This one weighed in at 1410 grams! I have only had this helmet a little over a month, but have about 16 hours on it so far and I feel like its breaking in just right. I wear a 61cm, and I ordered an X-large and its right on, fits snug but not too snug. I have to say its very quiet, almost too quiet. With the shield in the first detent, the venting is perfect. I installed my Sena SMH 5 intercom and can talk no problem and hear fine. I also receive the occasional phone call while I'm riding and the person can't even tell I'm riding. My only negative is it doesn't have a lot of ventilation, especially for hot Florida summer riding. This will be great for cooler weather though. The upper vents I have to keep closed, otherwise I get a high pitch wind noise out of them. This may be from turbulence from my windshield of my DR 650. Overall the helmet is well built and solid feeling and the built in chin curtain works great. I should probably buy a spare, for when this helmet wears out. My luck, they will no longer make it when that happens....LOL

Great Helmet
I got this helmet for Christmas and have ridden in it since the weather broke. Finish and quality are top notch. I wanted to spend some time in the helmet before reviewing. First, the pros and cons.
Pros
- lightweight
- comfortable
- transitions shield is awesome!
- included pinlock insert
- tremendous bang for the buck
Cons
- fogs easily with out pinlock insert
- ventilation is only adequate
- increased noise inside the helmet with vents open
- vents are hard to manipulate without practice

This is an awesome helmet despite the cons. I love the look of the carbon fiber and the accompanied weight reduction. This helmet is extremely light and was a noticeable difference from my previous helmet, a Bell Revolver EVO. This provides a significant comfort advantage in a tuck, when you have to keep your head up. The helmet was tight at first but I was expecting this, as it is kind of a race fit. There is very little wind buffeting, even at higher speeds.

The transition shield is just a great invention. I can hardly imagine myself going back to anything else. Put the helmet on and just go. Noonday sun, no problem. Setting sun, no problem. Middle of the night, no problem. One of my dings against the shield is that the shield it fogs up really easily without the pinlock insert installed, especially when at a stop. Fortunately however, a pinlock shield is included. With the pinlock inserted, I notice no fogging issues whatsoever. Shield changes are easy and hassle free.

Ventilation. Ventilation is adequate. With all the vents open I can only feel a slight bit of air circulation through the helmet. Perhaps the addition of a couple more exhaust vents would help this. The open and close vent levers are difficult to manipulate until you get used to them. Initially, I had to look in my mirror to find the levers. It is not a problem now, but it will require some practice. You do notice increased noise inside the helmet when the vents are open.

Overall I am very pleased with the helmet and would definitely purchase it again. While the ventilation is not great, it is not unbearable either, it could just be a little better. Given its price, quality and the transitions shield, I dont think you will find a full carbon helmet that can touch it.

Best carbon fiber helmet for the price.
Overall, I am happy with this helmet. I have only had this helmet for a month, ride to work about 3 days a week.

Pros: It is the lightest helmet I could find in this class. The fit is good, slightly snug at start and gets comfortable soon. I love the carbon fiber look and the helmets subtlety. The available Transitions shield with Pin-lock is a major factor for my choice. The visor will fog without the Pin-lock insert, so use it and it'll never fog. The Transitions shield gets medium dark, but not really dark enough if you're used to dark tint.

Cons: Not as many air ports as higher end helmets. It does not reduce a lot of noise. It also has a loud wind noise at speed depending on fit, vents, and if you use the included chin piece. Wear ear plugs or earphones (if legal or safe for your area).

I think I made a good choice, but I wonder if I should have waited a few months for the Shoei NXR (ECE 22.05 RF-1200) at a much higher price point. Revzilla service is great, got the helmet to me at my duty station in Japan in a couple of weeks. No hassles, no worries.

Does not come with transition visor
Very light helmet. I love it. Does not come with the transition visor but it's worth the investment. Very loud wind noises at freeway speeds.

Can't wait for it to break in....
I am a big fan of lightweight carbon fiber helmets. My old helmet is a Marushin full face, which I bought in the Netherlands for 200 Euros (about $300 at the time.)

For the price, I feel this is a great buy. I intend to buy a Sena bluetooth set-up, modify the (hopefully broken-in) cheek pads, and enjoy tunes while I ride.

The helmet is quiet and I am optimistic I will stay satisfied with this purchase.

I can't say enough good things about Revzilla's employees. They are extremely helpful and gracious with their customer service.

Nice and light
I have always worn a Large helmet so I ordered this one in a large and it fits great. Neck roll is a little snug when getting this thing on and off but once your in it doesn't really feel like you are wearing one due to its light weight. Fit was great for my head with no pressure points and the pinlock system was pretty cool too as this is my first time messing with this feature. As far as the airflow, it feels fine so far but we are not in the heat of the summer yet. However, there are not many vents on the outside so I'm not sure how it would compare to others out there. The visor is easy to take on and off and feels very secure once latched in....

Overall not a whole heck of a lot of features in this helmet but I wasn't looking for something that was too complicated to make adjustments to while on the bike. The only thing I am wishing is that it had a way to lock the visor in the down position but I also have not had a chance to test and see if it's even needed with this helmet.

This helmet is super light yet strong. It is a little loud but most helmets are when you are going 60-80 mile per hour with the wind hitting you. Provides great comfort and ventilation. Another one of my best buys for gear.

I have major neck problems and was looking for a super light helmet. My current helmet weighs around 1600 grams. It is very hard to find a helmet significantly lighter. After about a year of research and reading reviews, I went with this one because of the carbon fiber. I threw it on my postal scale and got 1414 grams, and it was on clearance. So far Ive ridden about an hour with it in the HOT Florida heat and it fits really good and is very light and super quiet!

Good reviews and great personal service from Brandon W when he replied to my help email. The price, carbon fiber look and weight was a large factor. Free shipping to Military APO addresses is a bonus.
Robert S on Feb 7, 2014
Chose this because of the carbon fiber and how light it is because that. It has removable and washable liners and neck rolls. The sizing was pretty true to my measurement. Despite not having cutouts for a blue tooth unit I was able to install the Sena SMH10R with little to no issue. Just takes careful placement of the ear pieces, and once installed works well with no discomfort. Lastly I ordered the WideRace Lumino Visor, which was one of the main selling points for me to get a Lazer helmet.

does the laser kestrel carbon light have ear pockets for speakers?
A shopper on Sep 30, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately no... This was the only issue I have with it. The moduler version does, kinda, it come pre-wired for the bluetooth option which looks nice. But then you need to buy the moduler helmet, and there bluetooth. I haven't tried fitting speakers yet, but once I do I'll update my review. Other than that, I'm really happy with the helmet.
Is carbon fiber lighter than fiberglass?
Gabe B on Jan 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: In simple terms for helmets, the answer is yes.

In engineering terms, the specific weight of carbon fiber weave may vary and not be lighter than fiber glass. However, it is so much stronger (tensile strength and modulus of elasticity) that a design can use less material, and thus a lighter helmet. I'm a professionally licensed Civil Engineer (Transportation spec.) if you can't tell already.

That helmet is a really good deal, I thought of buying an extra just to have. It really is as light as people write, not just hype. But don't expect it to have all the features of a $500+ helmet. Read the reviews for it and the Lumino face shield.
Does this model have a photochromic lense?
Daniel D on Nov 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Daniel,
Yes. For a while, one came free with the helmet as part of a promotion. However, now you must buy one separately. The photochromic shield worked well for me, but see the reviews for it to get a more balanced opinion. The photochromic shield and light weight were factors in my decision to buy this helmet.

Does this helmet come with the transition lens? Is the word LAZER under the clear coat?
A shopper on Oct 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This helmet doesn't come with the transition lens but the cost of the transition lens is 13% lower than it was when Revzilla was selling this helmet at full price. By the way, it's worth the money to buy the transition lens while you can.

The word LAZER is indeed under the clear coat.

This helmet is light and comfortable and provides and excellent field of vision. Enjoy!
does this helmet come with the transition lens? is the word lazer under the clear coat?
A S on Oct 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No..the lense is clear. I also recommend you do not try to hold the helmet lIke they show in the video. The screw will come loose on you. Happend to mine and the lense came off on a ride. I went ahead on bought the transition lense which screwed directly into the helmet it self. Both lenses come with the anti-fog insert which work well
I have a few helmets already but have really been itching to grab a Kestrel or a Kite. Only problem is I am a large (23in) and for the Kestrel there are no larges availaable. My question is if I am reading the Morpho System correct can I just get an XL and buy the large cheek pads?
Ronnie W on May 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I actually have the same problem i bought an xl when my head is really a large. I have a bluetooth headset inside that makes it much more snug of a fit. If i dont have the bluetooth in it is way too big and the wind on the freeway even blows it side to side
Does the Kestral have ear pockets for speakers?
Cole C on Sep 30, 2013
BEST ANSWER: unless my helmet is completely different than everyone else here, yes it does indeed have pockets for speakers. They are just not the typical cheap round looking cut hole the majority of people are looking for. You can easily fit speakers right where the chin strap is coming out.
Is this helmet Snell approved?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: DOT yes, no Snell or ECE certification stickers on the helmet.
At what sizes do the shell sizes change ?
Christopher M on Apr 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hey Chris,
I'm sorry that I can't absolutely verify the answer to your question. But, judging from the size chart, the two sizes are XS-MS for smaller shell and ML-2XL for the larger. I seem to remember this from a video on their Morpho System.
This particular helmet is no longer on their website. All published sources for the Kestrel line in general seem to say two sizes. Although I always thought that they had three.
I apoligize for posting an answer that I don't know for a fact.
