good product for the price when I first received it, it had a scratch on the top. im not picky at all so I didn't want to waste my time or energy returning it. when I first took it out of the box 2 things I noticed. 1) how super light it felt for a XXL 2) how tall it was from top to bottom. at first I wasent crazy about it because when I put it on it fogged like crazy. I also ordered the mirror visor that has NO pinlock system to it, so everytime I exhaled the visor would fog like crazy. so I went to my local auto part store and bought anti-fog from rainX and used that on my visor. after that it didn't fog at all. now it was time to ride. after 40mph there is a howl like sound from the wind which is kinda annoying but I got use to it. however, the peripheral vison, the weight of the helmet, and the aerodynamics of the helmet are great. I can very easily shoulder check at 70mph and my head doesn't bobble at all. For $200 this is a good helmet. but if your gonna compare it to a new model shoei or aria then you are going to be very upset. don't think your getting a $500 dollar helmet for $200. this is a $200 helmet. your getting what you pay for May 11, 2015
Nice helmet, if it fits you well enough First off, this is a good looking helmet for the money. It's lightweight and looks well made. I ponied up for the Transitions shield and it's pretty sweet. Not as dark as one would like but a nice piece of kit none the less. Now for the fit, not so happy. It's on the tight side. The measurement chart said was on the smaller size for a large so that is what I got. Did I mention it's tight? Well if I didn't it is. Also my chin touches the chin bar at anything over 50 mph, and at over 90 forget about it, it's trying really hard to push my noise to the back of my head. One last thing, I seem to have a hard time finding the sweet spot with the strap. Either my Adams apple is getting squashed or the left side of my jaw is getting pinched. My feelings are that this is a really nice helmet for a good price, if it fits you well enough. May 9, 2015
Great helmet for the price I ordered mine with the transition lens. Fits a little snug for an XL but break-in should help. Great field of view and love the light weight. Little more road noise than expected but not "bad". Quality helmet for the price point. 'Zilla's quick shipping as usual. April 11, 2015
Its on sale for a reason but its still a good helmet. CONS- -The vents for airflow suck, they're hard to use and are not a tight seal when closed and not a very big opening when open. -Without the pinlock insert the shield fogs up terribly. -Theres not really any room for a bluetooth headset and you can't really cut out any of the padding because the padding is very thin all around and you can't cut a space in the shell either because the part that covers your ear is plastic piece that holds the cheek pads in place. -Its not very easy changing the shields. PROS- -VERY lightweight. -VERY good price for what it is. -Looks very nice and has several different shaded shields and pinlocks you can buy separately. -I feel confident I can make a bluetooth headset work if i really tried and did some operation on it. Great Helmet Best helmet I have ever owned! Looks great and fits great too! Awesome upgrade from Icon Airmada, can't wait to get the Lumino shield to even better this terrific product! March 30, 2015
Great first helmet! I bought this as my first helmet; it expanded quite nicely and no longer feel too much pressure on my cheeks (I have big cheeks). I like the safety of the D rings! Cons: The air ports feel flimsy and somewhat unreliable. The overall airflow could be better. Also, keep in mind there's no room for internal speakers, though you can attach some flat one behind the hear cushion! March 23, 2015
Great buy. Time will tell if it is light enough for my damaged neck.. I was looking for a super light helmet to accommodate a neck condition that was repaired with an artificial disc. I felt that I needed a 3lb or lighter helmet to cut down on lingering pain from surgery in 2013. I found the Lazer Kestrel Carbon on sale and decided to give it a try. The two other considerations were no longer carried by Revzilla, one being about the same weight the other extremely lighter but requiring a significantly higher tariff. I have dealt with Revzilla before, receiving prompt and excellent service so I figured I could return it if I found it unsatisfactory. So far so good. I haven't had a chance to use it much due to inclimate weather.....but the few times it performed well. With the pin lock shield on, it still fogged a little at stop lights. I went to order a Limino Shield the other day, but they were sold out already.....DARN!!!! I hope they get more. I have already received several compliments on the helmet from some really hard core riders. Overall, I am a pretty happy consumer. I hope in the future that Revzilla will expand their line into the lighter European lines............. March 18, 2015
Nice and light I have always worn a Large helmet so I ordered this one in a large and it fits great. Neck roll is a little snug when getting this thing on and off but once your in it doesn't really feel like you are wearing one due to its light weight. Fit was great for my head with no pressure points and the pinlock system was pretty cool too as this is my first time messing with this feature. As far as the airflow, it feels fine so far but we are not in the heat of the summer yet. However, there are not many vents on the outside so I'm not sure how it would compare to others out there. The visor is easy to take on and off and feels very secure once latched in.... Overall not a whole heck of a lot of features in this helmet but I wasn't looking for something that was too complicated to make adjustments to while on the bike. The only thing I am wishing is that it had a way to lock the visor in the down position but I also have not had a chance to test and see if it's even needed with this helmet. March 17, 2015

Bryan H: Chose this because of the carbon fiber and how light it is because that. It has removable and washable liners and neck rolls. The sizing was pretty true to my measurement. Despite not having cutouts for a blue tooth unit I was able to install the Sena SMH10R with little to no issue. Just takes careful placement of the ear pieces, and once installed works well with no discomfort. Lastly I ordered the WideRace Lumino Visor, which was one of the main selling points for me to get a Lazer helmet. Sep 16, 2013

A shopper asked: does the laser kestrel carbon light have ear pockets for speakers? Sep 30, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Arthur F: Unfortunately no... This was the only issue I have with it. The moduler version does, kinda, it come pre-wired for the bluetooth option which looks nice. But then you need to buy the moduler helmet, and there bluetooth. I haven't tried fitting speakers yet, but once I do I'll update my review. Other than that, I'm really happy with the helmet. Daniel B: No. However I have used Motorola style hook over the ear type speaker buds successfully with the helmet in order to follow two way radio communication during an event. Will be going down this path for my own music listening and mobile phone use. It is a great lightweight helmet, a favorite. Oct 3, 2013

Gabe B asked: Is carbon fiber lighter than fiberglass? Jan 5, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robert S: In simple terms for helmets, the answer is yes.

In engineering terms, the specific weight of carbon fiber weave may vary and not be lighter than fiber glass. However, it is so much stronger (tensile strength and modulus of elasticity) that a design can use less material, and thus a lighter helmet. I'm a professionally licensed Civil Engineer (Transportation spec.) if you can't tell already.

That helmet is a really good deal, I thought of buying an extra just to have. It really is as light as people write, not just hype. But don't expect it to have all the features of a $500+ helmet. Read the reviews for it and the Lumino face shield.

Alfred T: Carbon fiber is significantly lighter than fiberglass. I've got at least 5 different helmets including a Schuberth C2, Schuberth S1, Nolan N43 Air, a couple of HJC's and some open face. Of all of them, my Lazer Kestrel is the lightest.

Hope this helps.

Chris E: Most definitely. Helmet is roughly 3 or so pounds. Very comfortable for all-day (10+ hour / 600+ miles) riding. One of my favorite helmets of all time for fit and comfort. Varies by head shape and personal choice for sure Jan 5, 2015

Daniel D asked: Does this model have a photochromic lense? Nov 24, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robert S: Daniel,
Yes. For a while, one came free with the helmet as part of a promotion. However, now you must buy one separately. The photochromic shield worked well for me, but see the reviews for it to get a more balanced opinion. The photochromic shield and light weight were factors in my decision to buy this helmet.

Ronnie W asked: I have a few helmets already but have really been itching to grab a Kestrel or a Kite. Only problem is I am a large (23in) and for the Kestrel there are no larges availaable. My question is if I am reading the Morpho System correct can I just get an XL and buy the large cheek pads? May 27, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David I: I actually have the same problem i bought an xl when my head is really a large. I have a bluetooth headset inside that makes it much more snug of a fit. If i dont have the bluetooth in it is way too big and the wind on the freeway even blows it side to side May 27, 2015
Reply to David Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Ilya D: Ronnie, you got it right about the Morpho System. There are 2 shell sizes, XS-MS, and ML-XL. If you get the XL, you can order the L cheek pads to "convert" it to size large. I've done the same when I had to go from ML to L. May 28, 2015
Reply to Ilya Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Alfred T: I believe that there are 3 shell sizes used for the Lazer Kestrel helmet. Each of those shells has 2 inner pad options available. The XL inner pad options are XL and XXL and putting a Large pad in an XL helmet won't make the shell any smaller. I personally wouldn't do it. May 28, 2015

jason p: unless my helmet is completely different than everyone else here, yes it does indeed have pockets for speakers. They are just not the typical cheap round looking cut hole the majority of people are looking for. You can easily fit speakers right where the chin strap is coming out. Oct 30, 2013

Christopher M asked: At what sizes do the shell sizes change ? Apr 8, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robert S: Hey Chris,
I'm sorry that I can't absolutely verify the answer to your question. But, judging from the size chart, the two sizes are XS-MS for smaller shell and ML-2XL for the larger. I seem to remember this from a video on their Morpho System.
This particular helmet is no longer on their website. All published sources for the Kestrel line in general seem to say two sizes. Although I always thought that they had three.
I apoligize for posting an answer that I don't know for a fact.
