K&N Air Filter HA-5013

K&N Air Filters are designed to achieve a virtually unrestricted air flow while maintaining filtration levels critical to engine life. The secret to their success lies in the unique characteristics of the filter medium which was originally developed by K&N all those years ago in the dust, sweat and tears of desert motocross racing.

The high flow cotton gauze air filter is washable, reusable and built to last for the life of a motorcycle engine. K&N air filters consist of four to six sheets of cotton gauze layered between two sheets of aluminum wire mesh. This media is then pleated and oiled to enhance its filtering capabilities and overall performance. K&N Air Filters were created for an environment requiring maximum horsepower and enhanced acceleration in addition to protection from the dirt and dust. The result is an air filter that allows dramatically more air into an engine, is washable and reusable, and will protect your engine for the life of your ride.

Easy installation gets better throttle response Idk if it will give you more hp but the bike is more responsive quick easy installation if you know how to use a screw driver you can install it yourself August 17, 2015
Consistently Great K&N Quality I have K&N's on all of my vehicles. They breathe better and are super easy to clean. Really easy installation (added video). It's not going to add big HP. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to do a minor upgrade to their CB500F bike. May 23, 2015
Easy Install, Better Sound...better throttle response! Coupled with a LeoVince exhaust (carbon fiber) it sounds much better! I can hear a little air "whir" going through the intake and with the exhaust, my cb500 engine actually sounds like a motorcycle. Before, it sounded like a scooter. Hahaha. As far as performance, no dyno but I can tell there is a better throttle response overall. Did this install in about 20 minutes. Taking the air filter out was easy because I already needed to do some electrical work (gotta take the battery out before getting to air filter) and it was a snap. No screws required to put the new filter on (just the cover/snrokel requires these). So, if the other reviewer had problems with installation, then maybe they had a different bike but it shouldn't mean downgrading the review becuase of that issue. April 10, 2015
Good performance modification! Bought this to go with my Yoshimura full exhaust system and it really seemed to make a noticeable difference in throttle response. Pretty easy to install just read your bike manual for directions. Filter fits perfect and snug without a hose clamp. Stock filter has a lot of restriction. Great mod for the money. Can't say I've ever had a bad experience with K n N. They make a great product. March 21, 2015
I love it I had it installed by honda they only charged me 20 dollars so it couldnt of been that hard to put on it makes my two brothers slip on pipe sound a little louder and it makes my bike feel like it drank a cup of coffee and woke up so yeah I'm happy with my purchase January 19, 2015
Just seems incomplete - needed modification Before I start to rant, let me say that this product will "work" right out of the box without requiring the extra effort I'm about to describe. However, I feel like K&N could've easily made this a higher quality product in terms of fit and finish. As far as performance, I can't tell a difference but that's normal for a simple drop-in air filter. The instructions are a little lacking as there is absolutely no direction at all for removing the stock filter. It's very easy and quite obvious but I still expect instructions to be thorough from start to finish when I buy any hardware. The air filter assembly consists of a plastic snorkel which is mounted to the outside of the airbox lid, then the air filter mounted to the inside of the lid. The snorkel has a tube which goes through a hole in the lid and extends into the stock air filter. The filter is mounted to the backside of the lide with four machine screws. K&N says that you simply slide this filter over the snorkel tube and then put everything back together. They DO NOT include even a simple hose clamp to mount it. This really turned me off and seemed as half-assed as their instructions. I ended up drilling holes in those rubber flanges you see in the product picture and reusing the stock machine screws to firmly mount the filter to the lid. I also discarded the snorkel as I no longer needed it to hold the filter in place. I used a 5/16 bit to drill out the holes for the screws and followed with a 7/8 bit to cut a recess just deep enough to accomodate the washers. My main issue with this product is that it seemed like a rush job in terms of development and packaging. They give you the side flanges which cover the mounting holes of the stock filter. However, instead of supplying holes for a secure screw mount, they simply want you to slide it on and hope that the filter never vibrates loose. At least include a hose clamp if the holes are too much to ask for. June 9, 2014

Patrick C asked: I've heard a slip on exhaust and and a new air filter require adjustment of the O2 sensors on the Cb500F/R/X? anyone familiar with this before I buy the filter? Jun 17, 2015

Eric S: The O2 sensor is just that, a sensor. As part of a closed loop EFI, it will give its inputs to the fuel metering system just like would be required for a change in air density due to temperature or pressure (altitude). Lots of partial information on forums. While a re-map won't hurt, depending on your needs- it might not help much either. Jun 17, 2015
