Kaoko Throttle Lock Late Model BMW R1200GS/Adventure/R1200ST Videos

Kaoko Throttle Lock Late Model BMW R1200 GS / Adventure / R1200 ST

The Kaoko Cruise Control is perfect for anyone looking to reduce fatigue and strain on your hand and wrist during long distance highway riding.

Each Throttle Lock consists of a simple, ingenious and robustly designed friction nut that is integrated with a special Kaoko bar end weight. The Kaoko bar end weight is closely matched in appearance and weight to the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) bar end weight.

The Friction Nut has a left-hand thread. It must be adjusted so that it makes light contact with the rubber throttle sleeve.

The Grub Screw is set to provide the necessary resistance on the friction nut. This may be adjusted periodically to take up wear.

To Engage: Twist the throttle and friction nut simultaneously with your right hand. This action tightens the nut and provides sufficient friction to set throttle to the desired position. The friction nut is designed that the rider may still open and close the throttle.

To Disengage: Roll off the throttle while gripping the friction nut. The throttle should open and snap closed freely.

Type A - Compatible with OEM and Touratech handguards.

Type B - Compatible Barkbuster VPS and Storm Handguards BHG12.

Type C - Compatible Barkbuster VPS and Storm Handguards BHG32.

Pricey, but I like it I think this product is more expensive than is justifiable, but it works pretty well. October 2, 2015
Would buy again I have had one before and bought this one again, it is easier to use than many other brands. It also works with many non-OEM handguards. September 14, 2015
Great for improved endurance. I had to modify my bar and this product slightly because I have different bars on my Adventure. It still was not a hard install and it works great. May 18, 2015
A Worthy Investment Perfect companion for long days on the highway. Great quality product. Stupid easy and fast to install. April 27, 2015
Works great Purchased this product about three months ago. It was super easy to install with no little issues or difficulties that so often seem to arise when installing some aftermarket gadgets. This just bolted right on and the instructions for installation were spot on. This is truly a bolt on product that anyone with the right tools could do. As for functioning, it works exactly as advertised. I will say it takes a little getting used to engage or disengage. I find myself riding along and holding the throttle constant and then spinning the lock with my pinky until it begins to catch. So far I am still getting used to using it, so I often have a moment of slowing or engine revving depending. I have a feeling once I have used it more it will quickly become second nature to engage/disengage, but for now I am almost always a little choppy on the throttle while setting and releasing. I like the product, and on long rides it is great to have the opportunity to rest my throttle hand on occasion, or to simply set a constant throttle position and be able to loosen my grip even if I am keeping my hand fully on the bars. Was recently riding the Natchez Trace with a slow speed limit of 50 mph most of the way, it this throttle lock really helped keep me from speeding, which I will do if I am not paying enough attention to my speed. I get caught up in the feel of the ride and neglect to attend to speed at times. This device really helped to keep that in check. April 22, 2015
Well made piece I didn't realize how much I missed a throttle lock on my bike until I didn't have one. After trading my Throttlemeister equipped BMW RS for a GS in 2011 I sort of forgot about it until I did some extended trips. After returning from a hand cramped Tennessee ride I decided to immediately install one. I chose the Kaoko because it was a bit cheaper and the reviews were favorable. Installation couldn't have been simpler and the metal piece has a nice heavy feel (matching the weight of the original bar end) and is well made. Revzilla came through with their usual fast shipping. I still think these things are over priced, hence my 4 star review, but I suppose it is a rather specialized unit to tool up for. Very nice to have an occasional rest for the wrist though. Good lock. This is a great lock. Solid construction all metal not cheap plastic. Works great can set and still adjust throttle. June 23, 2014
I WISH I had thought of this This ingenious piece of Engineering is well suited for the job. It's alittle pricey, but works great, fits perfect, and looks like it is factory quality. Highly recommended. February 25, 2014

NOAH K: I've used this on my other bike and it is awesome. My hand goes numb quickly and being able to let go of the right hand even for a few moments helps a lot. Some say they are dangerous, and there may be some truth to this, but so is driving with a numb throttle hand!
I choose this one because it says it will be compatible with a 2011 r1200gs fitted with oem hand guards. Haven't gotten it yet, but looks good.

A shopper asked: Do I need any special tool to install it on a 2012 BMW R1200 GS? May 15, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
carey p: No but you will meed a metric Allen Wrench kit ( I think it's 10 MM?)
The install is easy but the adjustments to make it work effortlessly while riding is cumbersome at best. The dial settings consistently change I assume from the rubber garment spinning inside the hand grip?

In my opinion there has to be a better mouse trap like a simple thumb lever to toggle over and lock it down.

Bottom line its a easy install but not so easy to set time after time.

Michael M: Only the Allen wrench or Torx to remove the existing bar end and install the Kaoko. The new Kaoko come with an appropriate Allen wrench to adjust tension. Jun 6, 2015

C Paul O: No special tool, Just the Torks screw that holds the Grip on. I believe it is a #50 torks. If you own a BMW then you must already have Torks wrenchs. May 15, 2015
