This helmet saved my life....
Literally. Just last night... A driver pulled a U-turn in front of me in an intersection, he didn't bother to look before he did so and I slammed into his car at approximately 70 km/hr. After I was launched into the air and bounced off his car my face slammed directly into the asphalt. This helmet not only took the impact but allowed me to walk away with only a sprained right ankle. I was also wearing full gear at the time. I cannot say enough about this helmet. If anyone is looking at this helmet and wondering about how safe it is, I can attest to how well it worked in a major impact. I'm still here because of it... Thank you Icon.

Tested the most important part
I bought this helmet in Rubatone black for the same reason as most - it looks cool. I also got the gold shield, and while it's not a quick process to change it out it is doable. Just take your time and don't force things. I got the helmet in October in Seattle, so a lot of moisture in the air. Sitting in traffic, the helmet would fog a little if I didn't crack the visor, no problems while moving. I didn't go on any long highway trips with the helmet, mostly just sat in traffic, but wind noise didn't seem too loud.

About a month after I got the helmet, I had a serious lapse in judgement and went into a corner way too fast on my Monster. Hit a wall and guardrail hard enough to break myself in a few places, and total the Monster (the forks were no longer attached to the bike). I bent the guardrail with my head, and then proceeded to slide along the pavement on my face for a little bit, giving me time to reflect upon the poor decisions that led to my current predicament. The helmet is scraped up and has a small crack in the outer shell, and the visor has scrapes from sliding on the pavement but didn't crack at all. Thanks to the helmet, I didn't suffer any head or neck injury. I'll definitely be getting another Variant.

Know what you are getting
I bought this helmet, as it looks very cool! Everyone elses reviews say how awesome this helmet is and how light it is ect. Well im not an icon fanboy, so ill give an honest review. I got the helmet and the first thing i noticed was how noisy the visor is rubbing against the shell. Like screeching noises so that was very annoying. The helmet is very comfortable, breathes very well, and has awesome field of view. But thats were the positives end. I ride a naked bike. At speeds above 30 mph, its the most uncomfortable helmet ive ever owned. Head checking is unbearable at these speeds. Above 40 mph and I now feel like a bobble head and cant keep my head straight. Forget head checking for sure now. Even looking into my mirrors whips my head around. And another complaint; New lens' cost $45 a piece. Thats alot. And also the lens change isnt tool less, and the screws that hold the lens in are garbage and want to strip. This helmet weighs almost 3/4 a pound more than my Sparx helmet. I unfortunately had to sell the Variant. Its a very cool and modern helmet, it just wasnt for me.

My head is intact
A few years ago I went to the store looking to buy an Arai XD-somethingorother, and the salesperson (whose judgment I trust) convinced me to try a Hi-Viz Variant. It was a better fit, and the outwardly-curved visor had better optics. On the bike, there was a bit of buffeting and noise from the visor, but no big deal once I knew what to expect. It never made my neck tired on long trips, plus I commute east in the morning and west in the evening, so the visor was a great sun-blocking feature. In the rain (I live in Oregon), the helmet never fogged. Because of the curve of the visor, any water that seeped in around the top edge did not run down the inside of it, obscuring my vision, but merely dripped straight down and out the bottom of the helmet.

Three days ago, my helmet did its job. I lost traction on a wet road, avoiding a cager who violated my right of way. Helmet hit pavement at about 25 mph, on the right side, and scraped for a bit. I have no head trauma and no neck trauma. My head didn't bounce. I didn't even see stars. I will absolutely be buying this helmet again. I only wish they still made it in hi-viz orange.

REVZILLA ROCKS!!!
My head measured 22" exactly which was on the maximum measurement for fitting a size small. So I purchased size small and have to say It is a VERY snug fit. It has loosened up a little since my first couple of rides and I am confident after a season it will be perfectly molded to my face and a PERFECT fit. I have to say for It being so tight as it is right now, there are no pressure points that make it uncomfortable to wear. Also the material is very soft and feels good when wearing it. This is my first street helmet and am very happy that I went with the Variant, Looks dope paired with my WR250R! Very happy with the Revzilla Experience so far...

Love this helmet
Awesome styling and great feel. This helmet does not feel cheap at all. The only criticism is pretty well discussed, being that it's a little bit of work to change out face shields, but otherwise this helmet is great. Solid design, well rated, and lots of compliments.

I ride a Hypermotard 1100S.

My new fav
I purchased the Matte Black version. Threw some black reflective ICON stickers on the sides and its looks completely bada$$.
Love the fit. Very comfortable. I've seen mixed reviews on wind noise, for me I don't think its bad at all. Only time I notice the wind is head checks at 70+ mph Other than that, its my new favorite helmet. Thanks Icon and Revzilla.

Excellent fit, runs slightly large, padding is more comfortable than my Arai. Slightly heavier than most is my only negative.
One thing to get straight, and it's a positive if you're 90% street. It's not a motocross helmet! It's a sportbike helmet made to function like a dirtbike helmet. My only negative aspect of the helmet is that it's slightly heavy. Other than that, I love it. I ride a supermoto and have the all white with a gold shield and the styling is literally a head turner. The bubble shield not only looks good but it's functional as well. Excellent peripheral visibility. The visor blocks out the sun (unlike a regular sportbike helmet) and it doesn't catch wind!! Aerodynamically refined to make buffeting almost a thing of the past. I was really surprised. The venting is great and the fog free shield works pretty well. The best thing about it is how quiet it is! Even quieter than my Arai. Icon really did it right with this helmet and I couldn't be happier.

Awesome asethetics, mediocre wearability
OK, in my honest opinion. As a daily rider (every day rain or shine) this helmet is a total vanity item. Will it protect you? Absolutely! (Both DOT and ECE approved) But it's fitment is a bit odd. At least to my head. It's not a perfect fit (but fits well enough to protect), even with adjusting pads and such. Granted my head is more circular than oval, this helmet still fits me adequately. Not as well as my Scorpion or my HJC but it fits relatively well.
Back to vanity and looks, If you wanna look awesome and different riding around on the roads, this will make you stand out no doubt. I get tons of compliments on this helmet and not only that but I really dig the look of it. (After all, I bought it because it looked frickin' sweet) Especially when you pair the rubatone black up with the gold visor. Total spartan look achieved. It also helps that I never see anyone else with this helmet on, even in the Bay Area of California.
Airflow is extremely good as well, so good that I know this helmet will be terrible for winter riding.
All in all this is a very good helmet. Not the best out there, maybe a bit over priced. But it's still a winner in my book and let's be honest, it looks mean and wicked. If you have a street fighter type of bike, this really ties the aggressive look together. Personally, it looks complete with my Triumph Street Triple. If you are constantly checking this helmet out and wondering if you should get it, go ahead and pick one up. You won't be disappointed, even with some of the short comings it may have.

Can't complain
I got the variant because I loved the way it looks. Definitely stands out from others. Many have complain about the visor catching wind, well it does at 55+ mph. Below that you dont know its there. Above 55 you can tell but its not gonna hurt you. Looking up is rough going 80+mph tho, dont recommend that. Lol. Its got a great field of veiw. I have the gold lense and its perfect, even when its dark out I use it. I have yet to fog the lense, ( I have purposely tried to) but I am in north alabama. Havent got that cold to really try it. I have experienced very very little buffeting. Its a really good straight on helmet. The variant is better than my other hjc scr1 helmet comparing wind noise and buffeting. Overall im very pleased with my purchase here at Revzilla! Great reviews from others and videos on this Helmet.

Alexander L on May 13, 2014
Lets be honest, first off the helmet looks sweet. Has a great field of vision, never have any problems head checking. The helmet does flow pretty good with the venting system. The only down side to this helmet is the visor at high speeds(100+), and on really windy days when you head check the visor catches the wind and pulls your head a bit, but for regular riding at highway and city speeds the helmet does great. I got the all white version, and looks awesome, but get dirty easily with bugs.

What is the weight of this? It's not in the manual, or anywhere.
A shopper on Jan 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I just weighed mine at 1875 grams, but that includes my Scala headphones and and intercom base piece, so it will be a little bit lighter than that.
How well does the icon variant accept bluetooth communication devices and speakers?
A shopper on Sep 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The Variant is not a helmet that would easily accept a Bluetooth system. There are no cut outs in the ears to hold the speakers, and the space between the helmet shell and the EPS is limited and does not leave much room for any kind of clamp to slide in. Some Bluetooth systems come with the ability to use an adhesive mount, which would allow you to mount the system to the side of the helmet shell. However, the user would still have to find a place for the speakers and they would likely be touching your ears regardless of their position.
Which face shields does this come with? Other Icon variant listings mention what is included - this does not.
A shopper on Feb 2, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This helmet comes with the clear face shield only. I personally bought an extra one for daytime riding.
hi, this helmet is good for long ovals, is that correct?
A shopper on Apr 5, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It is more of a medium oval size and a bit tight right out of the box, but this helmet has the best for outside and full span visuals when riding. I have more people tend to not pull out in front of me because its an unusual looking helmet with the silver and gold shield. I own the Rubatone Black and White Carbon Cyclic. I would recommend them if you can find a size that fits.
Does this helmet use a different shell for the different sizes?
A shopper on Oct 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I do not believe so. You can purchase different size of pads to find the correct fitment but the shell is the same. For example I purchased a medium last year, all I would have to do to make it a small would be to buy the proper inside pads.
there is a gold visor for this helmet.. can you get that..?
A shopper on Apr 23, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I am currently using the Gold shield for my red-etched variant. It looks awesome! The only complaint is that the gold shield seems to flex more while opening and closing. It is not as rigid as the stock clear shield and does not seal as well around the bottom of the helmet. This might be due to using a thinner material or its possible that I might have an ealier production run. When it's time for me to replace it I hope the next one fits a little better.
Wearing glasses with this helmet. Is it hard to get the glasses on? Will it be uncomfortable? I'm currently wearing a hjc cl-16 in a XL and with glasses it fits perfectly and feels comfortable.
A shopper on May 10, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've worn both sun glasses and prescriptions with this helmet and don't have any complains. I wouldn't say it's a perfect fit like it has been with another helmet I have, but it's by no mean uncomfortable. The cool thing with this helmet is that everything is off your face more than a racing helmet
I own a CL-16 HJC helmet in a size small which fits me perfectly. Would a small in this helmet be the right size for me?
Jason L on Mar 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hey Jason,

I wear an XL and I find it fits between right on size and slightly generous.

Hope this helps!

Matthew
I almost never close the face shield on my helmet and I hate when a helmet has a wimpy shield that blows shut. Can someone let me know how well this shield stays open while riding? Does it have a very positive click when raising?
James K on Mar 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I could "head whip" my visor closed on my Bell Star, but cannot to this day whip my visor closed on my Icon Variant. This one will serve you well.
HOLA, CUAL ES EL PESO DE UN TALLA M?
A shopper on Sep 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: El peso en gramos lo desconozco, pero si te aseguro que es ligero, yo he manejado con el mas de 10,000 Km y jamas me ha cansado traerlo puesto, es un excelente producto a un super precio, lo recomiendo definitivamente
