Black ink sleeved across its raw construct shell speaks to the Hard Luck's felonious intent. 13's emblazoned across its flanks sneer politely at the society from which it was ostracized. The Icon Variant Hard Luck will never taste a silver spoon or know the loving embrace of a fat trust fund.
The Variant helmet from Icon. A wind tunnel refined shape, executed in a Fiberglass/ Dyneema/Carbon matrix, along with an dual-density EPS core provide critical impact energy management. I ride 90% dirt (high altitude Colorado rockies) 10% pavement, but sometimes it's too cold or wet for a dirt helmet. I like the icon variant in general. I feel it provides good protection from impact and the elements. Yet, doesn't fog up like most of my street helmets. Not easily compatible with goggles like most DS helmets, but can be worked with. The only real draw back for me is it hurts my ears taking it off. Also the graphics on the "Hard Luck" I received were very muted and nearly unreadable. Not hearing this in other reviews, so mine was likely a fluke.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a helmet that vents well.
I have been wearing the helmet now for a few weeks. I was immediately impressed with the amount of airflow that the helmet provides. now that it is broken in, the helmet is very comfortable. The graphics are awesome. my only complaint is that the helmet is hard to remove. other than that, it is a great buy.

Loving this lid! I also own an Icon Alliance, and I gotta say this thing is ten-fold better in quality. Super happy.
If I had to ding in any area, it'd be swapping out the shield. Depending on how often you plan to swap out, it could be a pain for you. I'm not one to swap much, so this is a non-issue personally.

Awesome Features and Design
The Hard Luck Helmet has a really good design with all of the vents that are equipped within it. It handles very well in the wind and by that I mean that the wind does not try to tear your head off when fighting the wind. The helmet is equipped with the Hydra-Dry liner which is extremely comfortable and nice to have on a warm days ride. Overall I would recommend this helmet over most other helmets if you like the dual sport helmet look. This is truly my favorite helmet that I have ever owned!

Chris S: Due to great reviews I also liked the look of the helmetMay 8, 2014
matthew w: I chose this helmet because it looks awesome and Ive heard nothing but good things! This helmet isnt very common and I used to ride a supermoto. Now that I ride an R6 but still love the supermoto lifestyle and riding style this helmet fits me the best!!! Coming back to this post after the fact I WRECKED in this helmet and it saved my life. Five stars in my book.Mar 10, 2014
Jerad H: Loved the look of the battlescar but i just wanted moreâ?¦. The graphics of the lucky 13 just give this helmet a new attitude that fits my personality.Mar 7, 2014
Jered M:No.... the graphics are not reflecticive at all. It is a black print over the construct type helmet. The white or grey as you may see it is acctually the material that makes up the outter shell. Its a great helmet i get lots of comments and questions about it every time i ride. Mar 12, 2014
A shopper asked:Hi. I am interested in buying the Icon Variant helmet but I have read that the sizes are not always the same as others. For instance I have a large helmet, would it be the same size with the Variant? I need to get it right as I am in England and I don't want to have to return it if it does not fit.Jul 1, 2014
Anton P:I also wear a large helmet, I wore a large icon Alliance helmet. I just ordered the large Varient and when you first put it on it's VERY tight but (I don't think a lot of people realize this) it "breaks in" the more you wear it. The hydra dry padding icon uses gets looser the more you wear it, it almost molds to the unique shape of your head and cheeks. There defiantly is not a huge diff in the sizing. You'll first put it on and think wow this is tight but depending on how often you ride it will loosen up to where it's not squeezing the hell out of your head and just fitting nice and snug. 2-3 weeks if you ride a couple of times a week. The icon Varient is defiantly the best helmet I have ever owned and I have been riding for 30 years. Icon nailed it with this design. LOVE IT!Jul 2, 2014
Leighton K:Hey...as far as size goes I ordered a Nolan n91 in a medium and it fit great and tried my buddies variant on in a small and it fit good too...so if Nolan is about average I'd say order a size smaller and other YouTube reviews say it runs big so order smaller too...other than that it's an awesome helmet people are always looking at it...so different from all the rest get a Medium if your normally a large I'd say but you'll love it...you can always order pieces of the inside padding to adjust it too. Matthew R:I went by the measurements on the site and I had to send it back to get a size up. Measurements said I was a large. Got it it couldnt even fit over my head. But after returned got the xl and it fit perfect. Id say go one size up. Seems to run smallJul 2, 2014
D E:First, YES the visor opens, has multiple positions and closes tight. Other points to note: 1. It ships with both a clear AND a smoke viso 2. The clear visor is installed 3. It ships with the tool and instructions to change them out.
Hope this helps and I am very pleased with the helmet, comfortable and quite. I have the Sena Bluetooth installed and no one can tell I am talking to them @70MPH.Jun 9, 2014
Brian D:I use this helmet for the street. If im going up hill and the sun is straight in my face I can't really avoid getting blinded even by looking down, but flat roads I can just dip my head down a slight bit and avoid the sun.Jun 16, 2014
Joe W asked:In the video review for this helmet, Anthony says that it's a Hybrid helmet and it's not a Dual-Sport helmet. Where does it lack in the dual-sport side? What do dual-sport specific helmets offer that the Variant helmet doesn't?May 24, 2014
Brian D:This helmet is a lot bigger then DS helmet because its also made to be used for street. I dont ride DS (want to soon), so Im not sure if the avg goggles would fit arould all the shell sizes. Im an XL and my snowboard goggles wont reach the back.Jun 16, 2014
