Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet
This helmet saved my life....
Literally. Just last night... A driver pulled a U-turn in front of me in an intersection, he didn't bother to look before he did so and I slammed into his car at approximately 70 km/hr. After I was launched into the air and bounced off his car my face slammed directly into the asphalt. This helmet not only took the impact but allowed me to walk away with only a sprained right ankle. I was also wearing full gear at the time. I cannot say enough about this helmet. If anyone is looking at this helmet and wondering about how safe it is, I can attest to how well it worked in a major impact. I'm still here because of it... Thank you Icon.

May be a little tight!
It looks amazing and and breathes very well. The texture on it looks even better in person and the red lining brings it all together nicely. Goes with any color bike and the style suits any kind of bike.
The only negative thing is he size. I am loyal to Icon and only wear their gear. I have always ordered a large helmet and from my previous 2 helmets I have never experienced fitment issues. However, this helmet is a bit too tight. Not so much that I had to return it but just enough to where my checks are sore from being pushed together so much.
With that being said I'd suggest ordering one size bigger for comfort reasons.

Dual Sport perfection.
I have heard it said before that this is not a dual sport helmet, but I have to disagree. I am about a 50/50 rider, with a total of 1700 miles on this helmet in the past 5 weeks. It is reasonably good at canceling the wind noise, and slides over earbuds fairly easily. The visor seems to ride high at first, but with the chin skirt installed it is easier to recognize that the helmet should just be tipped down a bit. When new the face shield is almost difficult to see if you are looking for it. I found myself reaching to put it down as I got on the bike to find it already down.
That face shield brings me to the fogging. The only time I have ever had this helmet fog on me, was when I have already been riding, and am tired, and sweaty, and drop it and have to exert while not moving forward. Aside from that Icon's advert of "fog free" has held true.
I will say that at speeds of 70mph or above, the visor will catch the wind a bit, but again, tilt the helmet down as it was intended, and it will not try to lift off of your head.
The Variant Battlestar is the best helmet I own, and I plan to buy a Variant, Hard Luck in the very very near future.

Love the looks of the variant. I Bought the rubatone, and have knocked it around a few times being clumsy and found it very hard to scratch. It will make turning your head a little troublesome going over 70 with the visor wanting to take lift, but as long as you are aware of it, there is nothing to be worried about.
Overall a very good helmet.

Great features and great look.
I am a beginning rider and this is my first helmet so take that into account when reading the review. I chose this helmet after trying on every helmet in town that I could. I wear glasses and besides a very expensive helmet, it was pretty much the only one I could get my glasses in. I could also get them on with the other Icon helmets I tried on. I am wearing a large, although the measurement chart said I should be in a medium, it was just too tight though. It has been comfortable so far with the riding I am doing and am very pleased with it. I did get it on a sale price so that was another deciding factor. I would recommend trying on if you wear glasses.

I love this helmet from stunt riding in a parking lot to hitting up dusty trails it's perfect for all types of riding! Very comfortable and looks great! I have a Sena and a GoPro attached to my helmet.

Variant for life!!
I love the look and feel of the Icon Variant. The nice airflow system design keeps me nice and cool during the summers. The wide visor allows me to have a vast field of vision before having to turn my head. Plus, it just looks downright mean and dirty. Hooligan for life.

Good First Helmet with some minor flaws
Icon always has a fun and unique style to their products and this helmet is exemplar of Icon's style. This helmet definitely stands out and gets a lot of compliments and is also very popular with stunters and motovloggers.
This has been a good helmet and was easy to modify the cheek piece to accommodate the mounting of Sena bluetooth headset.
This helmet had a considerable side profile and turning your head at freeway speeds to look over your shoulder will definitely increase the drag since the side profile is quite large due to the motocross styling.
The top vents on the visor are difficult to open close and have proven nearly impossible to open or close while riding even when stopped at a stoplight. I haven't had issues with any of the other vents.
Changing the faceshield is a bit of a chore and I had to buy a replacement pivot kit since one was damaged while trying to change the faceshields. Construct came with two faceshields but the tabs that go inside the pivot kit were shaped differently on each shield which seems to be a manufacturing defect that contributed the the pivot kit getting damaged.
I've definitely liked this helmet but it's not enjoyable for longer road trips but I'll definitely keep if for my dual sport adventures and pick up a different helmet for commuting and spirited riding.
