Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet

Gazing down the barrel reveals a clarity of purpose. A single-minded mission devoid of right or wrong. The Variant Battlescar understands this unequivocally. The raw shell, tinted in variegated shades of dark earth and covert green, it is truly unique amongst its contemporaries. It is both unrefined and elegant. A natural beauty with a penchant for three-round bursts.

In Love with my Helmet i have been riding with my helmet for about a month now, it has finally molded to the shape of my head and it feels great! the vision on the helmet is amazing! it is kinda loud on the highway but nothing bad at all! great helmet great price! thanks Revzilla June 27, 2014
Great fit. To start off I really like the look and feel of this helmet. First negative of helmet is if your riding in strong wind it will try and rip your head off. Second and worst problem with this helmet is if you intend on changing out the face shield you probably only get to do it about 6 times before the aluminum bolts that hold the shield on seize up and you can't remove them without breaking them off in the helmet. You would think that if your going to make a helmet and charge $400 for a helmet it would have and easy quick detach system for the face shield, like scorpion uses. June 23, 2014
Looks really cool. fits like a charm and very comfy. I've decided it looks like a cross between a halo helmet and a wasps face. This helmet looks Amazing. It's comfortable on top of that. I ride 60 miles a day with 90 percent highway and I put in ear plugs. To be fair I would put in ear plugs with any helmet because it's smart. The helmet creates more drag at high speeds compared to a non visor helmet, but it's not bad. In fact, after a week you'll have stronger neck muscles and you won't notice the additional drag :) June 23, 2014
First Impressions Ok, I've got an '14 FZ09 and I've worn the helmet for a few days now. The first thing that I noticed was a drastic reduction in noise by about 75%. Coming from the Bell Revolver (must be the noisiest helmet out there), this one is super quiet comparatively. I wear ear plugs and also installed the Sena SMH10R low profile headset which the bell also had so it's a direct comparison. Sena fits great without any pressure points on the ears. The helmet fit is just slightly snug on the cheeks but I know that will break in after some time in it. It's not uncomfortable anyway so I don't think it's an issue even if it doesn't. I was concerned about highway speeds but it proved to be a non-issue for me, I am learning to turn my head a little down and to the side when looking to the side/behind on lane changes to cut the wind so the visor doesn't drag. Works great. Buffeting is at a minimum, I would say it's less than the Bell, maybe because of the riding position on the FZ? The downside to the helmet is changing the shields is a pita. They really need to come up with a better way to do that, I struggled getting the old one off and the new one seated right. The Bell and Scorpion EXO-1000 are much easier and don't require tools. This one does. Airflow, airflow, airflow, wow!! I haven't ridden in really hot temps with it yet but the air flow is really good and adjustable. Definitely a fan of this helmet though and so far the only knock is the changing of the shield. July 17, 2014
Saved my head after hitting deer This helmet has my vote. After t-boning a deer at about 50mph on my 2009 KLR 650 it kept my head and neck totally safe. What surprised me the most is that the visor thing on it didn't even break off. I got a massive deal on this one so I probably won't buy the same helmet again but I'm kind of cheap. If you got the money for this helmet and like it, buy it! It will protect you. As far as the helmet itself goes, it has great airflow so you stay cool during the summer, but when you put the chin curtain in and close it up right that airflow really dies off so you stay pretty warm too. It's a little noisy but I didn't find that to be an issue because I had a bluetooth that was more than loud enough to overpower the sound. The only cons about it is the shape is really good at catching a heavy crosswind and turning your head but you get used to it. I gave it such a low rating on features and bang for the buck because you would think with the price of the helmet it would have a build in sun visor but it didn't. It was also somewhat frustrating that you couldn't run it without the visor that was on it. Overall I would fully recommend this helmet and I loved it while I had it. June 15, 2014
Great helmet I ordered the icon variant battlescar in dark earth. The helmet looks amazing. The field of view is wider than normal . Changing the shield can be a pain in the butt, but can be done in less than 5 min. The visor blocks out the sun great. I don't get much resistance even at 150 mph, but side checking with this helmet may break your neck if your not ready for it. The sir flow is amazing. All in all this is one of the best helmets I've owned. April 28, 2014
sizes off I wear a med in most other helmets, this i wear an XL, and my cheeks are still smooshed, no chewing gum for me. Not horribly but, hopefully the cheek pads will break in soon. Other than that, extremely happy. Much less wind noise than my HJC is-17, and far more visibility. Alot of guys think they look like the guy from the HALO game, i feel more like Dark Helmet from spaceballs. The shell is quite large. removing my windscreen does result in a lot of buffering in heavy crosswinds, not bad with screen on. April 21, 2014
Amazing Air Flow I live and ride in Las Vegas. I was looking for a full face for the protection but i needed the visibility of a half helmet so i could see whats going on around me. (in Vegas EVERYONE is actively trying to kill you) The field of view in this thing is awesome. On top of the visibility i needed something that kept me cool as my older Bell Arrow is quite warm in 100+ degree temps. The Icons visor does an amazing job of pushing air into the top vents and i can really feel the air keeping me cool as we've already had a few 90 deg days. There is some buffeting in the higher winds of LV and turning to check your blind spots at highway speed is a little wobbly. Lastly i have a rather large head and it was a really snug (I got the XL per measurements) but i pulled the cheek pads and just sat on them for an evening to help and after a few weeks the tightness is gone. Pros: Airflow, airflow, airflow! Visibility. Style. Cost. Comes with smoked visor. Cons: Buffeting at higher speed, fit takes a little bit to wear in. If its a little tight don't sweat it and return it. just sit on the cheek pads and give a couple wears. April 14, 2014

David P: This helmet is awesome! I bought the charcoal color and it changes color with different lighting. I added the Gold Mirror shield and even rode with it and night and the visibility was fine. The wind noise is minimal but the visor does catch in the wind with high speed but its not that bad. I wear a size 7 1/8 hat and ordered the helmet in medium. Its a bit tight but eventually it will break in but for now my ears feel like they are going to rip off every time I take the helmet off. Mar 21, 2014

A shopper asked: I want to get a third party Bluetooth but the guys at my motorcycle shop told me that the visor will collect a lot of wind and create a lot of wind/road noise and so I should go with something different. Is that true? How does the helmet do with wind and road noise in terms of bluetooth communications and etc.? Nov 17, 2013

Kyle C: The main idea of this helmet was to bring a lot of air into the helmet. But each air vent has a close switch. As far as a Bluetooth goes. The padding inside does not separate from the shell like most so you have to make sure you can crunch the padding enough for the mounting bracket. I have a scala rider q2. It took some engineering by using longer bolts w nuts to crunch the padding so I could use the bolts that came w the unit. The combo is great and the headset has a noise filter. My wife hasn't complained when we talk on the phone so I think you'll be ok. Good luck. And ride safe. Nov 17, 2013

Shane D: I have the Scala rider G9 which works really well even at 70mph+ speeds while on phone calls. Audio is also great for listening to music and the corded option is great for saving battery on a longer trip.

However you cant mount the unit on with the screw compression backing. You are left with the stick on option which given the shape of the helmet requires adding new adhesive strips even few months!

Great looking helmet! with the dark visor you will get lots of looks stopped at the traffic lights

Payam S: The Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet is a fairly quiet helmet. I would compare it to the noise level of a shoei Qwest. It is very comfortable and well built. The Visor surprisingly does not catch too much air. I ride a sport bike and I commute around 1 hour to work and back at highway speeds. My only issue with the helmet is that the face shield does not go far back enough so it obstructs my field of vision when riding with face shield up.
Overall great helmet, with great looks.

Alain J: I shoud say that the wind shield install on your bike will make the difference. I have the Givi Airflow (2 parts windshield) on my Tiger 800 XC and the wind is no more a problem at any speed. Nov 18, 2013

Peter A: If i understood your question so is it about 2 visor? An no it doesent i only has one. I live and drive in norway in europe and whne the sun gets really low in late summer and early autum u need an extra pair of sunglasses. (I have the golden visor) btw i love this helmet. Nov 16, 2013

Ulrich B: An inner shield? Not sure what you mean. It has a great shield, and you can use the clear or the the dark one. I have been using the dark one for about a year now, mostly off road, and other than sticky vent controls it's been a great helmet for me. Nov 15, 2013

Jason R: It does not. The only sun protection you'll get is by replacing the whole shield with a tinted one. This takes a few minutes. Nov 15, 2013

A shopper asked: I currently measure at a 22in (rounded) at the circumference of my head (my forehead). It says 22in maxes out at a small, though once the helmet is broken in, would it be pretty snug?
I wore a sevenzeroseven (707) helmet, at a medium- which is about the same measurement at 22in for a medium, but the helmet is broken in for a good 4-5 months and the fit is starting to get ugly (it IS a cheaper helmet).
How are your sizing compared to other helmets like the shoei and arai? (I tried shoei and arai at my local MC store and they all seem to fit really good, but I'm just a bit skeptical on once it is broken in.
May 27, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
james b: In my opinion icon does not fit the same as shoei or arai. Otherwise I would have one of their adventure style helmets. The icon is snug at first but loosens some with wear. I have 2 variant helmets and the older still fits snug but the padding is obviously broken in. Hope this helps May 29, 2014
Reply to james Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Scott B: The helmets size pretty similar to the 707 line, and will break in, though I've found not as much as the cheap 707 liner. The liner for the variant is firm but plush. I would go for the small, though ordering without wearing the helmet first is always a crapshoot. Good luck. May 29, 2014

steven w: It is very similar to Simpson helmets... I went off the size I used to wear in simpson helmets and it was a perfect fit. I used to wear shoei... like this helmet a lot more.

A shopper asked: How hard would it be to fit a Scala Rider to this helmet? Its like a clamp system. And, is there space for a microphone between the front guard and the mouth?
Looking forward to a reply!

RevZilla: There shouldn't be any complications when mounting a G9 to the Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet. There is more than enough space to fit the clamp and microphone.

If you run into any trouble, give our Gear Geeks a call at 877.792.9455.

Looks the business with this more modern looking helmet and works great.
