Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet

Gazing down the barrel reveals a clarity of purpose. A single-minded mission devoid of right or wrong. The Variant Battlescar understands this unequivocally. The raw shell, tinted in variegated shades of dark earth and covert green, is truly unique amongst its contemporaries. It is both unrefined and elegant. A natural beauty with a penchant for three-round bursts.

Nice helmet Super comfortable to wear, hugs head/face just right so it's secure but you can still function normally. While it looks like a duel sport, it is definitely a street helmet. Only small downfall I would say is that you have to get your glasses sitting just right or they get pushed a bit askew by the cheek pads. But with a little practice it's not that hard to do. I'm talking eyeglasses, though may be similar for sunglasses too. December 14, 2014
Great Airflow... a bit too much! The visor does get whipped around at speed. Great helmet... super comfortable! Great Airflow... a bit too much! The visor does get whipped around at speed. Up to about 40 mph is great... but after that if a bit too much. I ride a naked bike and you can really feel it at speed. Excellent styling... looks pretty sick! October 20, 2014
Awesome helmet Recently pulled the trigger on the now discontinued construct graphic and first impression was incredible. I upgraded from the Scorpion Exo 500 and the variant fits much more comfortably and vents much better. The field of vision is exceptional compared to my old helmet, and feels very light on my head. Overall very satisfied with it, and once again Revzilla was very helpful with the YouTube videos and customer support which is where my search started. This was my third purchase from Revzilla, and certainly won't be the last. Can't wait until I order the silver reflective shield to really pull all the style out of this helmet. Thanks again Revzilla. December 1, 2014
Icon Needs to Fix the Face Shield Bolts I've really enjoyed this helmet. The style is fantastic and looks great with the reflective face shield. This fits me better than pretty much any other helmet I've owned and I feel like it offers great protection. However, I have one ENORMOUS gripe about this helmet... and it will echo what so many others have said. The method that Icon uses to attach/detach the face shield is COMPLETE GARBAGE. The face shield requires you to remove to cover plates and unscrew two bolts for removal. Not only does this take a decent amount of time to do, but the bolts are awful. The bolts are incredibly soft and if your hand slips once while screwing or unscrewing, it will completely strip the head of the bolt. Additionally, if you're like me (driving both during the day and night often) and you change your visor fairly regularly it won't be long before the threads on the soft bolt get folded together and bind up in your helmet. If you're lucky enough to get the bolt out, the threads both on the bolt and where the bolt screws in to will be completely destroyed. You can purchase a pivot kit which includes new bolts... But, unfortunately that won't do anything as the new bolts won't screw into the mangled threads on your helmet. So, enjoy the $400+ display piece for your shelf... unless, of course, you want to just remove the face shield completely and wear goggles. Can't recommend this helmet until Icon fixes this HUGE ISSUE. September 23, 2014
Overall, the icon variant is a great, stylish helmet I was looking for an upgrade from my $50 helmet and something a little bit stylish. This helmet fits both of that category and more. The liners were really comfortable, the straps was better, and the aggressive look that it gives everytime I ride. This is really a great purchase for me cause it really is worth it. November 3, 2014
Variant Helmet Matt Black Few months ago I bought a Variant Helmet. Never saw one here in New Zealand. I just like the looked of it as I follow Miz Shift on YouTube and it does stand out from everything else even when you have a flash bike but people first point of view will be your head. When I first got it I had been pulled over more then I can ever count cause the cops never seen one. Never got a speeding tickets just wanna check out my helmet and take a picture with it. Everything about the Variant is great. I don't know about you guys with the wind noise but I listen to my music when I ride and I wear a bennie and a neck cover which make it air tight on my ears and I can't hear the wind noise. The only reason will make me think twice about buying another is that I have to pay an extra NZ$386.00 as custom fees. It's sucks but I want my helmet so bad. Revzilla and Icon, please I know a lot of people they wanna buy a Variant helmet from here but since they found out that I have to pay another NZ$386.00 custom fees they back off from it. I want a few but too bad cause by the time the helmet get here I am spending NZ$900.00+. It's a great helmet and I recommend it. My head is intact A few years ago I went to the store looking to buy an Arai XD-somethingorother, and the salesperson (whose judgment I trust) convinced me to try a Hi-Viz Variant. It was a better fit, and the outwardly-curved visor had better optics. On the bike, there was a bit of buffeting and noise from the visor, but no big deal once I knew what to expect. It never made my neck tired on long trips, plus I commute east in the morning and west in the evening, so the visor was a great sun-blocking feature. In the rain (I live in Oregon), the helmet never fogged. Because of the curve of the visor, any water that seeped in around the top edge did not run down the inside of it, obscuring my vision, but merely dripped straight down and out the bottom of the helmet. Three days ago, my helmet did its job. I lost traction on a wet road, avoiding a cager who violated my right of way. Helmet hit pavement at about 25 mph, on the right side, and scraped for a bit. I have no head trauma and no neck trauma. My head didn't bounce. I didn't even see stars. I will absolutely be buying this helmet again. I only wish they still made it in hi-viz orange. Work of Art - No - It's a MASTERPIECE WOW - LOVE IT. Gotta be the coolest helmet ever. Outside of looking amazing it is really well built. I agree when I first tried it on I felt like the guy getting his face pinched between two fingers. But after a few hours in the saddle it relaxed and is very comfortable now. Since I ride a "dual sport" massive speeds and helmet lift will never be a problem. Was going for the flat black but at the last minute decided everyone wears that so got the silver (Medallion) with a silver face shield. Holy Moly it looks great. The finish is perfect > Went over it with a flashlight and magnifying glass. The shield is not too dark (kinda a little darker would be nice) but now I can keep it on at night and no need to change. Also I have thick sunglasses and just tried them with the helmet since people said you could not ear glasses - they feel fine. Cons - Very minor - Wish they would make the strap a ratchet strap like my old helmet, D rings are a real PIA. 2nd my cleaner bottle was empty...waaa. :) No bigs. Also glad Icon does not go overboard with crazy fancy packaging. It is nice packaging but companies that go over the top make you wonder if they could just chill out and save me money on something I throw away anyways. ZLA you guys are AWESOME!!! October 17, 2014

David P: This helmet is awesome! I bought the charcoal color and it changes color with different lighting. I added the Gold Mirror shield and even rode with it and night and the visibility was fine. The wind noise is minimal but the visor does catch in the wind with high speed but its not that bad. I wear a size 7 1/8 hat and ordered the helmet in medium. Its a bit tight but eventually it will break in but for now my ears feel like they are going to rip off every time I take the helmet off. Mar 21, 2014

A shopper asked: I want to get a third party Bluetooth but the guys at my motorcycle shop told me that the visor will collect a lot of wind and create a lot of wind/road noise and so I should go with something different. Is that true? How does the helmet do with wind and road noise in terms of bluetooth communications and etc.? Nov 17, 2013

Kyle C: The main idea of this helmet was to bring a lot of air into the helmet. But each air vent has a close switch. As far as a Bluetooth goes. The padding inside does not separate from the shell like most so you have to make sure you can crunch the padding enough for the mounting bracket. I have a scala rider q2. It took some engineering by using longer bolts w nuts to crunch the padding so I could use the bolts that came w the unit. The combo is great and the headset has a noise filter. My wife hasn't complained when we talk on the phone so I think you'll be ok. Good luck. And ride safe. Nov 17, 2013

Shane D: I have the Scala rider G9 which works really well even at 70mph+ speeds while on phone calls. Audio is also great for listening to music and the corded option is great for saving battery on a longer trip.

However you cant mount the unit on with the screw compression backing. You are left with the stick on option which given the shape of the helmet requires adding new adhesive strips even few months!

Great looking helmet! with the dark visor you will get lots of looks stopped at the traffic lights

Payam S: The Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet is a fairly quiet helmet. I would compare it to the noise level of a shoei Qwest. It is very comfortable and well built. The Visor surprisingly does not catch too much air. I ride a sport bike and I commute around 1 hour to work and back at highway speeds. My only issue with the helmet is that the face shield does not go far back enough so it obstructs my field of vision when riding with face shield up.
Overall great helmet, with great looks.

Alain J: I shoud say that the wind shield install on your bike will make the difference. I have the Givi Airflow (2 parts windshield) on my Tiger 800 XC and the wind is no more a problem at any speed. Nov 18, 2013

Peter A: If i understood your question so is it about 2 visor? An no it doesent i only has one. I live and drive in norway in europe and whne the sun gets really low in late summer and early autum u need an extra pair of sunglasses. (I have the golden visor) btw i love this helmet. Nov 16, 2013

Ulrich B: An inner shield? Not sure what you mean. It has a great shield, and you can use the clear or the the dark one. I have been using the dark one for about a year now, mostly off road, and other than sticky vent controls it's been a great helmet for me. Nov 15, 2013

Jason R: It does not. The only sun protection you'll get is by replacing the whole shield with a tinted one. This takes a few minutes. Nov 15, 2013

A shopper asked: I currently measure at a 22in (rounded) at the circumference of my head (my forehead). It says 22in maxes out at a small, though once the helmet is broken in, would it be pretty snug?
I wore a sevenzeroseven (707) helmet, at a medium- which is about the same measurement at 22in for a medium, but the helmet is broken in for a good 4-5 months and the fit is starting to get ugly (it IS a cheaper helmet).
How are your sizing compared to other helmets like the shoei and arai? (I tried shoei and arai at my local MC store and they all seem to fit really good, but I'm just a bit skeptical on once it is broken in.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
james b: In my opinion icon does not fit the same as shoei or arai. Otherwise I would have one of their adventure style helmets. The icon is snug at first but loosens some with wear. I have 2 variant helmets and the older still fits snug but the padding is obviously broken in. Hope this helps May 29, 2014
Reply to james Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Scott B: The helmets size pretty similar to the 707 line, and will break in, though I've found not as much as the cheap 707 liner. The liner for the variant is firm but plush. I would go for the small, though ordering without wearing the helmet first is always a crapshoot. Good luck. May 29, 2014

steven w: It is very similar to Simpson helmets... I went off the size I used to wear in simpson helmets and it was a perfect fit. I used to wear shoei... like this helmet a lot more.

A shopper asked: How hard would it be to fit a Scala Rider to this helmet? Its like a clamp system. And, is there space for a microphone between the front guard and the mouth?
Looking forward to a reply!

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: There shouldn't be any complications when mounting a G9 to the Icon Variant Battlescar Helmet. There is more than enough space to fit the clamp and microphone.

If you run into any trouble, give our Gear Geeks a call at 877.792.9455.
