Low noise, High Airflow.
The Airmada is a fantastic helmet. I was deliberating between this helmet and the Shoei RF-1100 and the Bell RS-1. I ended up going with this, and I'm glad I did.

Pros...

EXCEPTIONAL airflow for summer weather. Really can't stress this enough. Feels almost like you're riding with an open face helmet when you have all the vents open.

Quiet. This helmet, thanks to its really tight neckroll, makes it way quieter than your average helmet. For the price you pay, it's hard to find this level of noise reduction. There is a slight whistle due to the pin lock if you turn your head all the way to the side, though.

Style. This speaks for itself. The Saliet design gets a million compliments... it looks cool in every color. The black version has a slight "sparkle" to the black paint compared to the others (checked in-store).

Stability. Try doing a headcheck at 100 mph with this thing on and you'll be wondering why you don't feel the helmet sliding or buffeting around. It stays FIRMLY in place.

Cons...

On/Off: This thing is a little painful to get on and off. You get used to it, and it's VERY comfortable once on. But taking on and off -- feels like your ears are gonna rip off. I'm ok with that.

Pin lock: I find this to be a slight annoyance. It makes opening the shield take a little extra effort compared to others.

Shield swap system: Not as easy as AGV's design. It's relatively quick, but with the sideplates on the shield, it's difficult to line up the mechanisms.

Overall: For $250 ($180 for solid colors) this helmet is simply UNBEATABLE in its class. Highly recommend. Fantastic helmet by Icon. Check out my picture (red helmet).

Crash Tested
Let me just say this helmet saved my dome. I was recently in an accident that ended up with me hitting the pavement head first at 40mph. I was able to get up and sort of walk away, If i only would have been wearing knee protection.

The Helmet is extremely comfortable, but it is a tad loud at highway speeds. But I think that is a byproduct to how much air it flows.

I absolutely love the shield locking pin and do not have a problem unlocking it with gloves on like some other reviews have mentioned.

You can wear earbud headphones and sunglasses very comfortably with this helmet and not even notice them.

All in all, this helmet is a steal at the price offered at, it does its job and I will be buying another Icon Airmada for sure.

Worst Icon Yet
I have been happy with the last two generations of Icon helmets and ASSumed that this would be an improvement over the last, well I was wrong.

Fit is extremely tight getting on and off and while you would think this would lessen noise, it doesn't.

Shield whistles, it's not a tight seal.

Ear pockets are so small that my very thin scala rider speakers touch my ears, which do not fit into the ear pockets and are normally scrunched.

And the biggest complaint, there is no thought, not even a consideration towards a glasses slot. You will destroy your glasses trying to get them behind your ears with this helmet.

I wouldn't even sell this secondhand to someone, it would be cruel.

Extremely High Value
The Airmada is tons of helmet for its price point. High-speed head-checks are a non issue and I have yet to experience any buffeting at freeway speeds after nearly 1,500 miles of use.

It really is all encompassing which is a great feeling to have on aggressive back country roads on the weekends.

That said, airflow is amazing. I'm still amazed at how dry it was after long summer rides. It doesn't seem to cook while idling in traffic either.

Fogging hasn't been an issue and it gets humid and cold in Minnesota.

My one major gripe is the lack of a chin curtain. I didn't think I would really notice this, but I've had a few too many mosquitoes and other stray insects join the party.

All in all. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great helmet whether they're in the market for an entry level lid or something more premium. It does many things well.

Best helmet I ever owned!
This helmet is amazing compared to what I used to wear. Icon is an extremely dependable brand and their helmets are top notch for what you spend on them. The reduced noise is insane and the fit is perfect. A little tight right now but it needs to be broken in. As a female rider most color options are pink and that's it. Apparently all girls love pink? I'm so glad they came out with this helmet and the vast options of colors. I purchased the purple one; goes great with my purple icon jacket!

Loved It
I got this helmet (red/black/white) for steep discount, so that initially excited me.

The fit is what gets most people-It's narrow and tight, but it's pretty accurate. You might err on the side of going on the side up, but just try your regular size and the size up to know for sure. I ordered a Large, and initially it didn't fit. Once I broke it in however, it was just SO comfortable. It's deceiving...it seems like it won't fit, but it really will if you break it in and give it a chance.

Air flow is normal, nothing super special but nothing terrible. I'd sweat a bit if it was hot, but I never suffocated in it.

Not sure what noise level is like in a premium helmet should be like, but picking up on the highway would definitely make it difficult/nearly impossible to hear my phone conversation over the Sena. Music would be fine. Noise is just something you can't escape on a helmet, but it does seem significantly better than my old helmets.

Nothing special about features. It's a comfy helmet with a cool enough look and some air-flow ports.

SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY-I just went down on my '07 FZ-6 and I smashed it to bits. I remember flying off the bike, having my body scrape against the ground, and having my head snap forward and meet directly with the ground. Guess what? Aside from the shock from the accident, the one clear thing in my head was how I watched my head hit the pavement and I literally didn't feel one thing. No headache, no pain, just soft comfy-ness. My neck hurt a bit now, but no pain in the head whatsoever. Do yourself a favor, buy this helmet or helmets with similar safety ratings.

Great looking helmet
So far I love this helmet. It looks great and is very comfortable once you get it on. The helmet is snug, which is why I am glad I took the recommendation of others and ordered up a size since I was towards the top end of Medium. The chin vent is very easy to use with gloves on, while the top vent I had a hard time finding while I was riding. I put the dark smoke shield on the black Airmada Salient and it pairs up very nicely. The helmet is great and doesn't "grab" your head during high speed head checks. Overall this helmet is great but would recommend getting one size larger due to how it fits.

Great helmet for the price
This helmet looks great and has nice features for the price. It does fit a bit tight but after its on you almost forget you're wearing it. There is ample airflow with easy to operate vents. The visor is very clear, provides a wide field of view and has never fogged up on me.

The only thing I can say against this helmets is that its a little loud. For this price range I was expecting it to be a little quieter but overall its very nice.

Great feel, look, airflow, and features
I got the black and white version and it shipped quickly and I was very excited to get it. When I pulled it out of the box it looked way better than expected! It fit perfectly with the sizing chart and adding the dark smoke shield made it look even better. The padding inside is soft, comfortable, and snug! Its a tiny bit difficult to get on and off around my ears (my ears are not big) but I prefer that so I know it stays on and wont move around in the unfortunate event I crash. The airflow feels great in the hot Texas sun. Sure it gets a little hot sitting still but get moving and its just fine. I fully recommend this product

I don't really like this icon Airmada too much because it still hearing outside noise
T I on Apr 27, 2016
Because I apparently have a long oval head. When my [painful after 50 miles] helmet fell apart and all the helmets at the bike shop (even the high dollar ones) hurt my head I looked up "How to choose a motorcycle helmet" and found the very informative revzilla video. I was able to apply the filter to only the long oval type and the Icon Airmada was both affordable and according to the reviews has great airflow.

It was one of the few inexpensive helmets that fit my head and was ECE rated, so I went for it. I very much like the look of Salient which is why i chose it, nice and simple, clean, no crazy gra[hics or anything, just a smile flow-y pattern. It's very nice

Hi, does this helmet have precuts for speakers to be installed later?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Sure does! Absolutely love mine. I used the Sena Bluetooth and it worked GREAT! Definitely a great helmet. It's a third the price of my Shoei RF1100 but better in EVERY way. One thing to consider though, you definitely want to order a size bigger than you're probably used to. I wear a small in the Shoei, but this is snug in a medium (or I could just have a weird shaped head)
Thinking about buying this helmet. I need a little information on the fit. I'm a woman with a head size is 55 cm/21.5 inches. I'd say my head is longer than it is wide. I recently had bought a Shark Vision helmet but had to return it because the chin guard was only a fingers width from my chin/lip. How is the sizing on this helmet? What size do you guys think I should go with? Any help would be absolutely wonderful!!
A shopper on Mar 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I love this helmet but it is a smaller size overall than most helmets. I wear a medium and the chin guard is fairly close to my face compared to my last icon helmet
My question is not about sizing, since I'm sure I will be a medium according to the size chart. My question is in regards to the shell size itself. Would it be considered a bobble head size like the Bell helmets, being large and chunky and possibly interfering with your gear (such as a speed hump)?? Or is it on the more compact and sleek end of the spectrum like the Arai helmets? Thanks in advance!
Jonamoto on Feb 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Definitely NOT a "bobble head" helmet. In fact, quite a bit more narrow than my Sheoi that cost 3 times more! Actually, in my opinion, superior to the Shoei in pretty much every way. I will tell you though, in my Sheoi and other helmets before that I wore a size small. In the Icon I wear a medium. The opening in this helmet is much smaller than the other helmets which helps keep the wind noise down quite a bit. The interior of this helmet in a medium fits like my size small Sheoi. Seems to be the most fog free helmet that I've had so far. Has vents all over it. For the bang for buck, I definitely won't feel the need to buy another $600 helmet again! Get it, you'll like it
Is it SNELL approved?
A shopper on May 2, 2016
If I try an Airmada locally and order the Salient, do you think they fit similarly?
A shopper on Aug 18, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I tried on a friends Airframe and based my decision off of the fit of hers as well as wearing a different size of a different brand all together. I wore a friends medium and tried on my friends XS and that's how i based my decision to get a small. I think that the two should fit very very similarly and you should have no problem. :)
What's the self life?
A shopper on Apr 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: What?
is it glasses friendly?
Andrew B on Sep 22, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I wear two different types. Plastic Ray-Bans which have thicker construction and metal ones which fit even better. I ware my helmet tight and its fine. By the way the Icon Salient is a better helmet than my Arai or Shoei. Better construction and so much quieter. Best Greg de Marchi.
would like to know how much it weighs?, thanks.
A shopper on Mar 18, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They go over the exact weight in the video, but this helmet is the lightest at this price that I have seen. I love this thing.
Looking at the size chart, I see some discrepancies. If I use hat size, I should get an XXL. If I use head circumference, I should get a L... I'm assuming I have a pretty long oval head. I can't find any stores close to me that stock this thing to try it on... which one should I try first?
A shopper on Oct 14, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The Salient is a much different fit. I had the Alliance previously (medium: based on head circumference) so I got the Salient in medium.

Tradeoffs: Salient, as advertised, has less mass (shell size) and is a cool-looking helmet. Good peripheral visibility as well. However, it is a snug fit and getting it on and off takes a lot more effort. The shell opening at the bottom is much smaller. On short rides, the fit seemed right but as I found out later on longer rides, the pressure from the snug fit made my head hurt. This didn't happen with the Alliance (same size).

I think the head circumference measurement is most reliable. I measured out on the high end of the medium scale range. If you measure out similarly high on the large scale range, perhaps an XL will be more comfortable. If your measurement is on the low end of the large scale range, then a large may work for you. IMO, the Salient is a medium-oval fit so if it's too snug and you have a long oval head like I do, you may feel the effects of the pressure on longer rides. Your ears will also take some punishment when you take off the helmet.

Another option, if you can afford it, is to consider Arai's Signet-Q which claims to be a true long-oval shape. I got the medium and the fit and comfort level is much better for my head shape. Obvious tradeoff: a couple hundred bucks.
Hello,

I just bought an Icon Airmada Salient Size Medium. I chose that size because I also have an Icon Alliance M size so I'd thought it would fit about the same.

The helmet feels pretty comfortable once my head is in but while I'm trying to put it on or when i take it off, man its tight!!!!! I know the helmet is new and not broken in but it's nowhere as easy to put on and take off as the Alliance.

Should I order a size large or go with a different helmet, maybe the Variant Construct or Airframe Construct?

Thanks

BEST ANSWER: Yes, getting the helmet on and off is a challenge. That's the main tradeoff of this "minimalist" helmet. I had an Alliance previously and gave the Salient a shot because of its scaled-down design. However, over time, I began to dread getting the helmet on and off. I also noticed that on longer rides, the pressure from the snug fit would make my head ache. I also wear sunglasses when I ride and the snug fit made it harder to insert the stems over my ears. It's a slick-looking helmet but it wasn't the right fit for my head.

As a commuter, I needed something more comfortable and practical so the Salient was replaced with a discounted Arai Signet-Q - perfect for my long oval-shaped head.

Sorry, I can't comment on the Variant or Airframe Construct.
