Stands up well vs Arai
My last two helmets have been Arai Profiles, which I have loved. Thought I'd remain an Arai customer for the duration. Unfortunately my last Profile was overdue to be retired, so I started looking at a new Arai Signet-Q. Let's just say that prices have gone up since I bought my last one, so I started looking around at other options. I have a long oval head, so was limited to helmets with that shape, but the Airmada is another one and was well reviewed. Tried one on in the store side by side with the Signet and while the Arai was definitely more plush, the Airmada was comfortable as well. Then I looked at the price: $180 vs $600 for the Arai? Hmmm...

I ordered an Armada from Revzilla (which I received the next day, thanks guys!), wore it around the house for a couple of hours, and decided to keep it. Now I've ridden with it on my bike and here are my impressions: as I mentioned, the Arai is more plush but the Airmada is also very comfortable. Snug to get into but I like that because it makes for a quieter helmet. Fit and finish I would have to give the nod to Arai, the Airmada doesn't feel cheap by any means, but it's not a $600 helmet. The Airmada has FANTASTIC ventilation, it feels like there is a breeze on my face. Better than the Arai. When at speed I find that the Airmada catches the air a little more than my Arai, but I have no problems with head checks, etc. Finally, I was able to get a solid white Airmada plus a dark smoke shield for $220, the Arai is $560 just for the helmet. While I think the overall quality of the Arai is a little better, it's not 2-3 times better, and the Airmada does have some features that the Arai cannot match (e.g. ventilation). If you're looking to get good bang for your buck and have a long oval head, give the Airmada a look. The one negative? I have big ears that stick out from my head (no dumbo jokes) and the ear cups in the Airmada are just slightly too small. But if you have normal sized ears you should be fine.

Nothing special!!
I was looking around for another helmet when I came across the Icon Airmada,my current lid is an Arai Chaser, which fits like a dream but I wanted a 2nd helmet. Upon receiving the helmet ( black gloss, L), my first impression? heavy. Anthony mentioned the lightness of the helmet as a major factor, but the helmet being reviewed was an Orange Hi Vis Stack (M). Anyway, the fit was good but a little snug but that will sort itself with time and more use, (no issues there). The shell size is quite a bit bigger than I thought it would be, more like an HJC FG-15 I was expecting an Arai type shape/size. The visor is NOT anti fog and feels a little flimsy, you get the impression that in a few months the visor will not stay in the up position and its a bit noisy. There is good airflow but beyond that, there's nothing groundbreaking about this helmet, i paid £ 129.99 for it and to be honest i think it was 29.99 overpriced, as i said decent helmet, nothing special

Quality helmet
Not unlike the other reviews, this is a snug fitting helmet getting it on and off. You just have to learn how to get your thumbs underneath the helmet to press the padding down to avoid pulling on your ears both on and off. I got an L (58-60cm) and I was between 58 and 59cm on my head measurement. It feels snug when I get it on, but once I start riding I forget all about it. It's hard for me to comment on airflow since it's my first helmet and it's hot as heck down here so it doesn't matter much. I got the white for visibility to other drivers and I'm a happy camper.

Very Happy With This Helmet...
The helmet fit my head perfectly based upon the size chart. It flows a lot of air and is a bit noisy with all the intake vents open, but nothing that is severe or irritating to me. Fairly light weight by comparison to my older modular. I was just in a torrential downpour the other day with all the vents open and no rain came in the helmet at all. The visor fogs about as much as any other helmet, in my opinion. Great quality helmet for the money and I feel very secure wearing it.

Great helmet for the price
Fits very very snug at first but breaks in alot as well. I have a slight hot spot on the forehead which doesn't seem uncommon but it really isn't a deal breaker. Usually taking it off and putting it back on shifts the padding enough to fix it.

Tighter fit
This helmet is a huge upgrade from my last Fulmer helmet. It is a more aggressive fit and hugs your noggin quite tightly. For a more relaxed rider I would order a size up. If you want to feel a more sporty fit then order per icon instructions. The helmet has a classic look and I'm sure that you will feel that it was worth the price. Safe riding my friends.

Went around the United States, then hit a deer.
I love this helmet, I wore it on my trip around the continental United States this summer and it can handle anything. Desert heat? no problem. Being on a bike for 10+ hours for days at a time? no problem. Extended periods at high speeds? Only minimal hearing loss (I should have bought ear plugs earlier).

Also I hit a deer going 60, front flipped over the bike and bounced my head off of the ground twice. No concussion, just a sore neck.

I will be buying another, cheers to the awesome helmet Icon!

Great helmet for price
Decent helmet for the price -- I've had some complaints, but overall, great helmet, would recommend to others.

Pros:
1.) Snug fit once you get it on.
2.) Build quality is great
3.) Good circulation of air

Cons:
1.) It tends to fog up -- For a visor that's supposed to be anti fog, It definitely fogged up more often than I thought it would during the winter.
2.) Requires a break in period - I have an inbetween round to oval shape head, and this helmet definitely fits oval shaped heads better. Maybe I just have a funny shaped head, but it was extremely tight at first, but then became better as I broke it in. I would still go up a helmet size though, as its still tight.
3.) A bit on the louder side when going over 50+ MPH and when turning your head at 40+MPH. Definitely need to wear ear plugs if you go at higher speeds.

Great bang for the buck
I bought an Airmada Gloss Solid back in January after my old Arai Quantum II finally bit the dust. Coming from a near $600 helmet to this sub $200 helmet was a bit of a jump but not as bad as you would think.

The fit: I have a bit of a wide oval shaped head so this helmet is tough to get on, but once you get in there it has a surprising amount of room on the inside. Cheek pads are snug but that's fine with me. Unlike my old Arai which had a tendency to move around on my head at triple digit speeds, the Airmada stays firmly planted.

Noise level: Loud. This baby howls and sings to you at speed, the venting on the inside of the chin-bar doesn't really do anything to help this and once you get into the triple digits this thing makes a hellish racket from the side pods. I normally ride with earplugs in though so this isn't even noticeable.

Weight: It's lite, not AGV Pista GP lite, but still lite. Gotta love it.

Vision: Nice and wide viewing angle, good height of the shield too. No complaints here.

As for features, what really drew me to this helmet was the small vent just above the face shield. I've had this feature on helmets in the past and I can't imagine living without it. The way it eliminates fog is just spectacular. I purchased an iridium silver shield and second set of side pods to go along with the supplied clear shield and after about two tries of practice, shield changes are a breeze. (Take note here Arai, simpler is better).

Overall i'm very satisfied with my Airmada and would recommend one to anyone looking for a fully featured helmet on a budget.

After much research (5 months worth) it was obvious that while this might not be the best helmet money can buy, it is the best hemet that $180.00 can buy. Why 5 months then? Truthfully I had come to this conclusion in the first week. I spent the rest of the time trying to disprove it. Ultimately this was not possible.

The price was right. This helmet runs small. it was tight at first by now it fits perfectly. The face shield is a big draw back. It scratches to easily.
erik m on Apr 9, 2015
I do not know enough about current helmet technology. Stylistic trends tend to be based on a lot of conjecture and not much research meaning if they look the same they are likely the same. All of these helmets pass near the same bar standard. It's a battle for features as selling points, I get it; so that being said the Airmada had the "cleanest" helmet design. Clean but with a little edge to it.

Hi. I'm worried about selecting the right size of this helmet. Since I live abroad, changing the product would be very tricky and I've previously bought (and then returned) a Shark Evoline 3 size XL that was way too small for me. Well, I have 24-3/4" of crown circumference (8-3/4" front to back and 7" side to side) is it possible that the 2XL wouldn't fit me?
A shopper on Feb 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Ah, I see! In that case, I think there is a very good chance the XXL Airmada would fit. Helmets are naturally a very personal thing, but their sizing is only slightly smaller than HJCs, which I find to be pretty average industry wide. Its a great helmet, so if you are willing to take a bit of a risk on the size, I'd say its worth ordering.
Is there room in this helmet to fit a Sena SMH10? I've heard it doesn't have pockets, but is there space in the ears for speakers?
Jason R on May 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes there is, I actually have that exact model Bluetooth in my Airmada. I placed the speakers under a portion of the padding that is just a flap, so it works just right.
is it glasses friendly?
Andrew B on Sep 22, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I wear sunglasses under the visor of my helmet, no problem. I think as long as you don't have big, bulky frames, the helmet will work great with your glasses.
I would like to buy an airmada, and a large would fit me. But does the airmada accommodate glasses or should I possibly get an XL?
A shopper on Feb 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I wear a Large size helmet, and it accommodates my glasses just fine. They're fairly small-frame glasses with wire rims, but there's plenty of room in there for larger glasses too.
Bought this helmet in a medium, my head is right between medium and large according to the size chart. Tried the helmet on and could not get it on all the way because of how tight it was. Having an intermediate oval head, should I go a size up and hope it fits or is this just not the helmet for me? Thanks in advance!
kelvin S on Mar 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would get size up. The small I tried in their showroom fit nicely and when I got the new helmet home, it was tight. The helmet still is tight. And I notice it is longer in that it goes lower than my chin. I had slight problem mounting my Scala headset as a result.
I ordered this helmet in a size small because I measured my head to be 22 inches exactly. However, when I tried the helmet on, I experienced pressure points on my forehead which led to an uncomfortable headache. I noticed there was a little room at the temples but tight on the forehead, so I have a long oval shaped head.

But I was wondering if I should try a size medium or if I should go with a different style helmet that will better fit my head?

*Note: the only other helmet I have tried on was a small Biltwell Gringo and it fit loose.
Nicholas K on Dec 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I had the exact same problem with this helmet. I switched to a SHOEI and it fits perfectly. Yeah it costs a little more, but it is a quieter, really quality brand in my opinion.
do you have a helmet with a flip up visor? Thanks, Larry
A shopper on Jul 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The air Armada has a flip up visor, if you mean the clear face shield. No inside sun visor built in, though. I like the very positive four-position visor settings, so it stays where you put it.
Hi, I have a huge head (usually wear 3XL helmet) and kind of round head and I have a hard time finding a good fit helmet. I currently have Shoei RF1000 that liner has disintegrated so I need to replace it....not looking to buy another $500 plus helmet....I was at Cycle Gear the other day and one of the guy there asked me to put on Arai helmet which is made for more of a round head type head like mind and first I told that guy, there is no way it'll fit me and it was 2XL.....but he told me to just try it and I'll be surprise and I was.....once my head was inside the helmet it felt like it was made for my head. I was not serious of purchasing a helmet so I did not even paid attention of the model...you probably know which one. Sorry, I am looking at Icon Airmada model, do you think it'll fit my round head or will it give me headache as my other Bilt & GMax 3XL helmets are....I can't ride for a long time with those helmets so I am going back to my Shoei and since the liner is gone that helmet sits low where I have issue seeing the road....so I need a new helmet.....do you think Icon Airmada 3XL will work for me?

Thank you!
Steve

BEST ANSWER: If I had to guess, Id say no. This hekmet is super tight when putting it on. Also, my head is alot longer and narrower than it is wide and it fits me great.

Can someone specifically with an XL size Airmada tell me how much it weighs? There should be a sticker with its weight in grams on the back of the helmet. Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: Nope no sticker at all, but I will tell you this I drive about 300-500 miles each time I get on my bike and it is a real heavy helmet, you can feel the muscles in your neck aching if you ride for any long distance and if you carry a rucksack man your neck really starts to ache..
