Good features, but poor functionality of some....
For the price point of this helmet, there are some nice features. However, the execution of some of these features and the lack of support(nationally) leaves a bit to be desired. The chin-bar release ceased to be functional in any reliable manner after only 2 months of use and the bluetooth access cover would not remain in place after being removed only two times. Fogging is a problem, even with the chin vent open and the upper vent rattles loudly in the closed position. National customer support is nonexistent, leaving only the seller to meet the buyer's needs. On the plus side, the interior sun screen works well(and has decent coverage), the face-shield has positive stops, the liner is easily removed for cleaning and it didn't leak in heavy rain. In the end, if a modular helmet loses reliable function of the major reason for purchase of design and the manufacturer offers no reasonable support, do NOT buy this helmet.

Great fit and great price
I had been looking at this helmet, tried it on in shops, and finally ordered it from Revzilla because they had the best price on it. I really like this helmet. I wear glasses and want full face protection so a modular is the way to go. Even though I tried on helmets before ordering, I chose the size based on head measurements and it fits fine. I am looking forward to long rides this spring. Very satisfied. We are now considering whether we want to get Bluetooth since my husband got one of these helmets also. Kudos to Revzilla. The first helmet I got was malfunctioning in that it flexed when you brought the visor down. Revzilla was great and took it back with no questions, even paying return shipping since it was a faulty helmet. I would definitely order from them again.

1st Helmet
This is my first helmet that I have purchased. I've been riding for about a month now and I'm happy with this.
I love the fact that it has the internal sunvisor which prevents me from carrying an extra shield and the sunvisor is dark enough for me (although it could be a tad darker). It has a wide field of view which I like.
Air flow is good at high speeds, for around the town riding I find that I either have to ride with the face shield all the way up or slightly cracked to get good airflow going.
It can get a bit noisy at high speeds and you can get a slight whistle with a minor head turn or if you look down, nothing that is persistent the entire ride.
I did find that this helmet causes me to bobble around a bit at high speeds, not sure if this is normal because it's my first one.

Overall, i like the helmet. It's light weight, fully functional, the internal visor is a great innovation, air flow is okay for a two vent helmet, and wind noise is to be expected (it's not deafening)

Great Helmet
I've been using this helmet for three years, and am finally able to provide a review. The helmet seems to be very solid and durable. The chin guard is not as stout as some others I've seen, but the trade-off is that this helmet is not overly heavy. In fact, I can ride all day with it without the upper back / neck pain associated with wind buffeting a heavier helmet.

The two area of "criticism" of the helmet: the lack of rear air vents hurts airflow significantly. I feel it most in the heat of the summer or when slow speed riding in the mountains. At that point, I simply crack open the front visor one click and I have a little more fresh air.
The second critique is that the helmet can be a bit noisy at highway speeds (75 mph). Not terribly loud, but not as quiet as a few other helmets I've tried. Of course, those other helmets were 2-4 times the price of this HJC.

Overall, it is a tremendous helmet that I highly recommend. I use it for a daily helmet. I ride 14,000 miles a year.

Fits like and HJC, But...
Lets keep this brief. The helmet fits like an HJC. If you are replacing one of their lids, this should feel similarly. It is definately noisy with wind and whistling, but I came from a standard full-face so I cannot compare this noise to other modulars. It does not bother me significantly but it would drive my wife bonkers.

My primary GRIPE with this helmet is the fancy buit in sunglasses. They are pointless. I don't know about you but I wear sunglasses on sunny days, but these are so weak that I find myself squinting on overcast days. The best these shades can offer is a backup if you have the poor fortune to forget your sunglasses.

Good helmet for the price, but
If you are looking for a modular helmet that allows you to tlift the chin bar regularly, then you may be disappointed. After a few uses the chin bar failed to releas so i could no longer lift the bar without taking off the helmet. Jerking it violently would eventually release it. Revszilla was great about replacing the helmet, but I say beware to all other buyers. Other than the cold airflow under the chin bar which other models fix with netting, it was a good buy for my first helmet. Have not tried the bluetooth option yet.

Lacking quality, non-latching chin bar after 1500 miles.
Flip up chin bar no longer locks in the down position. Contacted HJC with disappointing results. I was told I had to return the helmet to the place I purchased the helmet. I bought the helmet at a bike shop that's more than 300 miles away.
Great customer service. HJC just lost a customer for life and I'll make sure none of my other friends buy HJC!!

I needed a Bluetooth Helmet, I wear glasses and also required a modular. After researching helmets I know there are better ones out there but for a lot more money. This helmet seems to be about the best in its price range. Looking forward to trying it out.
Leon S on Nov 28, 2014
I purchased the exact same helmet a year and a half ago, had an accident and bounced my head on the pavement. The helmet held up and did the job of protecting my melon. So I want another just like it. I like the modular style, being able to flip the face up and not have to take the helmet off for any little thing.
The internal sunglasses are great. I have a tinted face shield and when you add the internal shades it totally takes the edge off when your riding directly into the sun.

I am required to wear glasses on a daily basis and would like to know if this helmet is glasses friendly. If not, I would appreciate some recommendations within the same price range.
A shopper on Jun 6, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I have only worn it a few times, but had no trouble putting it on over my glasses (with the chin bar up of course). The sun visor did not hit my nose or glasses. Also, the helmet is very roomy around my ears so it doesn't pinch my ears/glasses.
Is SMH-10 compatible with this helmet? Thanks
A S on Mar 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It does not fit the integrated Chatterbox BT box on the helmet itself but works fine attached with Sena BT clamp.
I see that the chatterbox is pretty pricey. Does it come in a pair? Is it possible to use another brand or is this the only kind of bluetooth - speaker that works?
Oatmeal J on Aug 13, 2013
BEST ANSWER: the price you see is for one helmet not two. The chatterbox will work on other helmets just need to proper attachment. I have been very happy with this helmet. I can't imagine going riding without being able to hold a conversation with the rider. My wife and I both have this helmet and the Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth Headset Dual Pack.
I have one of these helmets but it's a medium and I need a small, can I order the small pads and liner and put them in the medium or will that not work?
A shopper on Oct 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I'd say never use pads as a replacement for the real deal. My HJC max saved my life due to a bad accident, pretty much face first at 60 into the pavement. Your life's worth a lot more than the money it cost to buy a new one.
Where do I find the Blue Tooth unit that goes with the HJC Blue tooth ready helmet?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2011
BEST ANSWER: The Bluetooth device for the HJC helmets is known as the ChatterBox Xbi2-H Plus Bluetooth Intercom. You can pick them up right on the Revzilla website at http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/chatterbox-xbi2-h-plus-bluetooth-intercom or if you search Google - although Revzilla's price is solid & competitive. I've not tried it out yet myself, but am looking into ordering it. A friend of mine has one and loves it.
I am about to purchase HJC IS-MAX BT....and also wanting to purchase SMH-10 bluetooth....will these work together?.....Thanks
A shopper on Mar 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I bought this helmet and SMH-10 over a year ago to make a 1 month trip with another biker.

Easy to install and worked like a charm. Level Hwy I could transmit over 1.5 miles difference. In the mountains of Colorado I was lucky to get 1/4 of a mile.
Damn the curves and hills. Receiving phone calls and Bluetooth into my cellular music was great.

I also use the Bluetooth for GPS reception from my cell phone. We rode about 8 to 10 hours a day and did not have any issues with battery life of the SMH-10. Just charged it up at night.
I want to attach my GoPro camera to the chin bar. Is the front of the chin bar smooth enough to accept an adheseive mount? My Sy-Max II is sculpted and will not.
A shopper on Feb 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: As an owner of a 2012 model of the HJC IS-MAX BT I can honestly say unless the 2013 or 14 model has changed you might have problems attaching a GoPro camera to the chin bar as it has a flat black non smooth surface which incorporates the front air vent to your face, and the unevenness of the side parts of the chin bar might also cause you issues. The area from the HJC
logo over the top of the helmet is made of the same flat black non smooth surfaces as well so again you might have issues mounting a GoPro camera there. However a person with some ingenuity might figure out a way of mounting a GoPro camera to a HJC IS-MAX BT. Hope this helps.
buying two of these. one for me and one for wife. we ride on same bike together. what Bluetooth equip do will I need to be able to talk helmet to helmet as well as talk to other riders in the same group?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I both 2 for the same reason. I have equipped them with the Sena BT units, SMH10R. They are compact and fit hetmuts well.
I live in a high pollution environment, I wear a Respro pollution mask. Will this work with that?
I have learned through experience that removing the lining on some helmets to wash it, will completely alter the fit. Is that the case with this helmet?
A shopper on Jul 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I don't know anything about pollution masks so I cannot answer your question.
What is the recommended way to wash headliner in the HJC helmet?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Just undo the pins and slide it out. Wash with soap and water. Let dry and snap back in.
