Good value, sunshield is nice This is my second helmet, replacing an older HJC. Bad; It is WAY louder than the old one. I now ride with earplugs if I'm going more than 10-15 miles. The cooling vents do almost nothing. The internal sunshield is way too light. Good: It's not possible to forget your sunglasses. I use the visor during nearly all daylight hours and wish it was darker, but it's still a nice feature. Rarely am I bothered enough to put on sunglasses as well. Helmet does not carry Snell or ECE ratings, but does wonderfully in the UK SHARP test (assuming the UK and US versions are the same, which I do). The pattern strikes a perfect balance between hi-viz and style. HJC makes different cheek pads easily available for not too much money, so you can customize the fit. I have an XL head and XXL cheeks apparently. HJC is always good value for the money. I was willing to pay much more, but the HJC felt the most comfortable, and had more features. It's possible the wind noise would be less of an issue on the higher end products. I ride a naked bike with an upright riding position, and I will say that when I lean forward into a more 'sport' position, the noise is not as bad. August 5, 2015
Great sub $200 dollar helmet I bought this helmet for a number of reasons, first the integrated sun shield is a must. There is no substitute for not needing to wear sunglasses under your visor. For those that are considering tinted visors instead, just wait until you want to block out the wind and keep debris from you eyes, but its either; nighttime riding, cloudy, under an overpass, fogged. The integrated sun shield allows you to use the always cover your eyes, while using the clear visor during those times above when you want to see every aspect of the road to avoid potholes and such, but also keep your eyes clear and blocked or on those sunny days, or if you want both. Great quality helmet, for a great price. And the matte black looks awesome! August 11, 2015
Highly recommend Love our new helmets. Our old helmets were HJCs and these are much lighter. It was very easy to install our blue tooth device and the sun visor is great! A lot of reviews talked about it not being dark enough but we like the tint. Great looking helmets too! July 27, 2015
Great sub $200 helmet Helmet fits good and is comfortable, looks good. could flow more air and be a bit quieter. June 29, 2015
Nice features but noisy One bad thing about full face helmets is you can't put a sun visor bill on them, which is really nice when you're facing a low sun. The internal sun visor helps this quit a bit. But the spring doesn't retract the visor completely so you have to open the main visor to push up the sun visor. This helmet is actually quieter with the main visor up which thankfully doesn't catch the wind like open visors usually do. The pin lock is a nice deal. R1200RT June 24, 2015
Awesome helmet This helmet has everything I was looking for. The internal sun visor is great. It deploys and retracts smoothly. I wore a 3/4 helmet before choosing a ff helmet and have to wear prescription glasses so I wanted a helmet that had the visor for day time and clear shield for night since I don't have prescription sunglasses. The fit is good. A little tight on the cheekbones but with time it has molded more to my face. I do not feel any pressure points on my head when wearing it. Airflow is good but then anything with vents is better than what I was wearing before. Road noise is minimal compared to the 3/4 helmet I wore even with a bubble shield. Overall great product for the price since I was looking for something around the $200 mark. Revzilla was easy to work with and navigate through the options. Amazingly fast shipping. No problems whatsoever. June 22, 2015
It good helmet. It is a good helmet, ears a bit annoying to use more than one hour. It is also noisy. June 18, 2015
Good helmet for a good price This is my second HJC. I bought another because I liked the way theirs fit the shape of my head. Initially I thought it was too tight around the cheeks, but it has loosened up a little over the last few months (or I am used to it), so now it is still snug, but comfortable. I chose this model for the drop-down sun shield. The standard tint is pretty good for my needs, but it does not retract all the way back up with a push of the button. It goes most of the way, but I have to give it a nudge with my finger to push it all the way up. I don't know if its just mine, or if they are all that way. It's a little annoying, but not worth the trouble of returning it. Other than that, I like this helmet a lot. I wear it mostly to commute (half-hour at a time), but I have taken some long rides, and it's still comfortable and feels solid. It seems like a good one for the price. June 16, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Russ B: I have been a fan of the HJC IS-17 since my first one. I got a new bike and decided on a new helmet. My other is flat black and I wanted a little pizazz with this one. I love the way it fits and feels and it's the quietest sub $300 I can find. Aug 25, 2015
Robert C: I love the visibility. Feb 21, 2015
A shopper asked: On a 1(Quiet) to 5(Noisy) scale, what is the noise level for this HJC IS-17? Aug 31, 2014

A D: I think the noise level is about 3. But I haven't tried other helmets, this is the second one. I can't speak over Bluetooth on speeds over 50 miles/hour becouse of the wind.
And when you close the visor ventilation it starts to whistle, so I ride with chin vent hole always open.

Thomas W: I'd say a 2-3. It's definitely better than my old helmet. The faster you go, the more wind there is and the noisier it gets. It's really quiet at city speeds. Sep 1, 2014
