HJC IS-17 Intake Hi-Viz Helmet
A real let down.
I have an IS-16 (daily use) that needed to be replaced. I also have the LS-17 for long adventures and thought the IS-17 would be an improvement over the IS-16. They really talk it up but it is really bad. It is the loudest helmet I have ever used, including MX, 3/4, and 1/2 helmets. The paint is very thin and rubs off. It does not flow as much air as the IS-16. The LS-17 flows more air than both but has no internal visor. The new visor is a little better but still not dark enough. It is way overpriced, It would be ok for $100 less. Still looking for a good commuter helmet...

Great Features for Under $200
I upgraded to this helmet after using a HJC CL-16 for 5 years, the CL16 in large had always been a bit big on me so I went to a medium for this helmet, which after a couple hours of riding was just the right amount of snug. For a helmet in the sub $200 category its nice having the flip down visor, and the quick shield detach seems much more durable and smooth than the older HJC shield locking system. Wind noise isn't the best but definitely better than other budget helmets I've worn. Overall very happy with the helmet.

Good entry level helmet
I bought this helmet for the internal sun visor, and because of Matte Black. Fits well, but pretty noisy. Visor works well, but I would prefer it a bit darker. Comfortable, and room to install a Bluetooth speaker system.

New female rider
This is the first full face helmet I have used, keep that in mind with my ratings above as I have nothing to compare to.
I did much research on helmets and got lots of feedback that this was a great first full face helmet. Thus far, I have been very happy with it. I started off riding with just a half helmet and this helmet has done wonders for making me feel safe and confident in my riding.
The only strain on my neck was for about the first two hours of wear, and then it was a non-issue after that. Going from the half helmet to the full helmet, I was worried about my field of vision, and although I definitely think the field of vision could be a little wider, we should be turning our heads anyway.
I absolutely love the drop down visor. It leaves just enough room on my nose and cheeks to not cause any field of vision issues looking down. It could be a little darker, but it does the job. Also works fine with a few different eyeglasses I have. I like the mechanism a lot too. Occasionally it doesn't retract fully, but we're talking maybe 2 centimeters and it is in no way impairing vision. I have noticed there is a small rattling now, and I think it's this visor. Occasionally I find it annoying but I have a music earbud in most of the time anyway.
I'm not sure if the locking visor is any different from a helmet that doesn't have a lock but instead has a tight gasket, but I like it. I think the locking mechanism is easier to find and use than finding a small plastic tab that most other helmets have.
In the month I've had it, I have ridden in 90 degree weather, 50 degree weather and rain (welcome to buffalo). I didn't find my head sweating in the heat, but I also didn't feel any significant ventilation unless the visor was open. In the pretty heavy rain there was no fogging and vision wasn't impaired at all. One 50 degree night I had no problem with the visor fogging up, then the next night I did. I'm not sure what that was attributed to. I did notice though that if you just crack the shield for a second then close it, it doesn't begin to fog back up again. The vent definitely needs to be open though if the visor is closed. Which wasn't a problem even in the cold temperatures.
I am very picky about what is touching my neck, and I love how comfortable the strap is. I also love the breath guard. Small features but important for me.
My biggest issue with this helmet that would stop me from buying again is the lack of a quality chin skirt, even as an additional purchase. In the cooler weather the only part of my body to be cold was my chin/upper neck. When I used my own underarmour type sleeve to cover my neck up to my mouth, it must have blocked the venting and I was unable to ride with the visor closed without it fogging up.

Excellent Helmet for the money with one complaint
This is a fantastic helmet considering what I paid. Comfortable, good fit, looks nice. My only complaint is that the internal visor isn't tinted very strongly, so I find myself shopping around for a darker visor. I would have been better off with the CL-17.

Could be 5-Stars if I did not have to fix some issues out of the box
I was a little disappointed initially with this helmet.
1. The pressure boom inside was intolerable over 40mph for rides longer than 45 min. It literally felt like my head was going to explode after a long ride. Installing the HJC Chin Shield fixed this. HJC, its $5, just put it in the box with the helmet. So buy this with the helmet (Link Below)
2. Visor fogged over pretty easy. Installing the clear Pinlock made fog a thing of the past. Buy it with the helmet (Link Below)
3. Horrible clicking noise from the left side of helmet. After the third ride with the helmet I could not take it anymore. I called Revzilla and spoke with Josh. He offered to take it back under warranty but suggested that I look at the visor pivot first and make sure it was factory seated right and there was no slag in there (Had not removed it at this point to install pinlock visor). Sure enough I remove the visor and reinstalled and the clicking is gone. Go Josh!!! I have removed and installed the visor a few more times and it has not come back, so I think we are good.
4. Internal visor is not a replacement for sunglasses and that is a HUGE disappointment. I am tempted to buy the dark smoke IS visor but reviews state its not much better. This is a disappointment as this is the real reason I bought this helmet, to wear with my prescription glasses on long rides.
5. Inside the helmet there is a small cushion liner at the top. At speed this liner would bounce between the top of my head the top of my helmet. I fixed this with a piece of Velcro between the cushion and the foam core. Problem gone.
Now that I have fixed some of the initial issues it is a very nice helmet save for the internal shield that is too light and reviews saying the dark shield is not any better. Again, a Big disappointment. I have gotten a few compliments on its design and looks. It is very comfortable, maybe a tad tight on my cheeks.

Good value, sunshield is nice
This is my second helmet, replacing an older HJC.
Bad; It is WAY louder than the old one. I now ride with earplugs if I'm going more than 10-15 miles. The cooling vents do almost nothing. The internal sunshield is way too light.
Good: It's not possible to forget your sunglasses. I use the visor during nearly all daylight hours and wish it was darker, but it's still a nice feature. Rarely am I bothered enough to put on sunglasses as well. Helmet does not carry Snell or ECE ratings, but does wonderfully in the UK SHARP test (assuming the UK and US versions are the same, which I do). The pattern strikes a perfect balance between hi-viz and style. HJC makes different cheek pads easily available for not too much money, so you can customize the fit. I have an XL head and XXL cheeks apparently.
HJC is always good value for the money. I was willing to pay much more, but the HJC felt the most comfortable, and had more features. It's possible the wind noise would be less of an issue on the higher end products. I ride a naked bike with an upright riding position, and I will say that when I lean forward into a more 'sport' position, the noise is not as bad.

Perfect as a back up
I've had the helmet about a year now and it was a bit tight but once it broke in it was nearly a perfect fit. The helmet is relatively light. One thing I don't like is the noise while riding at high speed and the lack of a chin guard. Unless your tucked on a sport bike, allot of wind gets in under the chin at high speed. The sun visor is a huge plus and on a nice day also works as a second visor to reduce the wind but still keep good airflow on hot days.
