HJC IS-17 Chin Curtain
As near as I can tell, the chin curtain didn't really do anything.
First off, the IS-17 Chin Curtain is a bit difficult to install, it takes a bit of prying to jam the plastic tabs between the helmet shell and the helmet padding. Secondly, and more importantly, as near as I can tell, the chin curtain made no difference in noise level. There might be a slight reduction in airflow into the helmet, but if there is, it isn't much. Maybe I was just expecting too much from a chin curtain. In any case, I don't recommend this product.

Useful with modification
I knew, from the reviews, that this chin curtain was made from mesh material, but I ordered it anyway with the intention of modifying it. I don't see a lot of need for a mesh chin curtain.
I cut a piece of black 1/8" closed-cell foam, that I got from a craft supply store, to the shape of the curtain. It is held in place with a couple of stitches done with black thread. This made it a solid curtain instead of a mesh one. The foam can be easily removed by cutting the stitches.

Not worth it!
First of all, it is extremely difficult to get inside the helmet (took me like 20 min to work it in there). It doesn't seem to do anything really. It is made of very porous mesh that lets a lot of air go right through it. I've ridden both with and without it and it doesn't seem to add any benefit. I wouldn't recommend buying this.

I'll try to post a picture of this curtain compared to the one that normally comes on a HJC helmet. This one is just some small mesh that will do next to nothing for you. Very disappointed in this.

Borders on useless!
I can't believe I have to wrote a review on a chin curtain, but it is what it is. When I first rode my IS-17, the first thing I noticed was the tremendous amount of air that blasts up under the chin bar. Now, I know a lot of helmets don't come with chin curtains and air flowing up is something that happens. But this is a different level of air flow. I fell the air hitting my temples, dust and debris get in my eyes, and don't even THINK about wearing an IS-17 in cold weather. The other stupid thing is for $7, why isn't it included with the helmet?! I could see if they wanted another $20 for it to tell it separately but for small change like that, just include it and stop nickle and diming us.
But none of that even matters. TheIS-17 chin curtain is too short and too thin. So it doesn't stop ANY air from flowing up and making you cold and making your eyes water. It blocks dust and debris but that's it. You'll still be uncomfortable. And it's a shame, too. It's pinlock ready, it seems like it would be a perfect do-all helmet once you add the curtain to block the wind. But it's not, it fails miserably in the cold. Who cares if the shield never fogs if your entire face is literally numb? I was so excited to get the chin curtain installed to solve what I believe to be the only problem with the IS-17 and it didn't change a thing. It will probably be amazing when it gets hot and I'll welcome all that air. But I'll be cursing it on cold mornings. you just can't stop the air flow. Don't even bother buying this chin curtain, it doesn't do what it was designed to do.

Is-17 does not come with chin curtain, have to order separately
The Is-17 does not come with chin curtain so you have to order separately. Luckily it isn't too expensive. Helmet is nice and quiet using this. Kinda quirky to install but easy installation nonetheless.
