LOVE this helmet!
I was trying to decide between this and the Bell Vortex and went with this after trying both on. This helmet is extremely comfortable and relatively quiet, and the liner material is excellent quality. I love the clasp for the face shield and the venting is outstanding! All the venting is adjustable and you notice a big difference which allows you to tailor the airflow to the temperature really well. I can ride all day and never even feel like I have a helmet on. The DOT and SNELL rating is a huge plus if you do track days. I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone - it is an outstanding value and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I recently highsided @ about 60mph on the track with this on and it did an excellent job of protecting me and held up pretty well too with relatively little wear despite a decent slide.

great light weight helmet
at first i was skeptical since it was a close out helmet. the helmet is a great track or street helmet since at full tuck the back of the helmet doesn't hit your back and is easy to turn around and look behind you. I have a shoei rf-1200 and it competes with it might not beat the shoei but it gets pretty close also less than half the price of the shoei. and has the pin locks the same as the shoei that help the visor from fogging up. overall great helmet and it is more bang for your buck

From good to bad because of visor
A week ago, the bang for the buck would have been 5 star and the total 4 star and I would recommend this helmet. However this week after only a few month of riding, maybe totaling 500 miles, my visor has started to crack at the clasp. I see this has happened to others. I contacted Revzilla who to their credit are willing to help me out. Revzilla took my pics and contacted HJC. This is the response, "It is a known effect of a pushing and closing the shield in a way they do not recommend, so they do not exactly consider it a problem. They recommend closing the shield directly straight down, with no inward force at all.It does not sound like the shield will be warrantied, since it is a consumable product meant to be replaced "

Well this is ridiculous. This is my fourth helmet in 20 years of riding and I have never had this happen. I very rarely even close it all the way because it is difficult to snap it, plus I like the extra airflow. I've probably only closed it all the way less than 10 times. There was nothing in the directions to tell me to make sure I carefully pull it straight down. How the heck do ya snap it shut with gloves on without pushing on the clasp a little bit.

HJC has dropped the ball here and it's really disappointing because I really like the helmet especially for the price. Revzilla has been a pleasure to deal with as usual though.

The helmet also came with some damage to the piece where the air comes out the back. Looks like a factory defect. Revzilla refunded some money back which was great and I was able to cover it up with a blue magic marker so it's not noticeable.

Purrr-fect
Wow, awesome helmet for the price. I just unboxed it. More than I expected and was worth the wait. Love how it looks on. Originally I was looking at a modular but when I found this one, I liked the graphics (white with black strip and red) on it plus it is fiberglass/kevlar composite, and it comes with a pinlock in the box AND it is Snell rated. So it was easy for me to forget about the modular. Fits like a glove(XS sizing chart right on target). The face shield is crystal clear and had to double check to make sure it was down since there is no distortion at all. Haven't ridden in it yet nor put the communications in. I don't foresee any issues. At closeout price this is more than a bargain!

Simply Awesome!
I am so sick and tired of buying helmets that are less than comfortable, wobble on my head and don't allow me to look behind me as I am changing lanes. I purchased this FG-17 knowing it came with nothing but the helmet (no sun visor and non-modular) and I soon realized what I was missing was buying a no-frills perfect helmet, and this helmet is near perfect. Lightweight, comfortable, fits snug as a glove and is so quiet I can actually hear my ipod music now. Nothing more to add but it is a great helmet and if you are on the fence get off it and buy yourself one of these Oh, and for those of you with a 2013 Limited Hayabusa, the yellow is a perfect compliment to your bike!

Great helmet for the price
Turned out to be a great helmet once I got the size right. I just ordered my usual L without using the sizing chart and was way too tight. Return process was easy and exchanged for an XL. Helmet still fits tight in the cheeks but that's just the way it's made. Probably the quietest helmet I've owned and the vents work awesome. You can actually feel them on top of your head when open. Only drawbacks are tight cheeks and the strap is cumbersome to get the snap through the d-rings.

Great product for the value
I normally wear a 7 5/8 hat and the XL fits perfectly (snugged but not tight). The helmet has great ventilation which is perfect for a ride in a hot day. For all the safety certifications this helmet obtained, I feel this helmet is at a great value!

Good Features for Buck
This FG-17 reached all of my expectations except that it was a bit small. I have returned the product for the next size up. That said, I did not get an opportunity to put the helmet on the road to test wind noise, air flow or to test the comfort while riding for an extended period. However, in comparison to the CL-16 I currently own, the FG-17 is truly a step up in craftsmanship and features. It is a great investment for under $200. Functionality of face shield appeared smoother with a tighter seal. The lock on shield is an added plus as it would help keep noise out with its rubber seal at all contact points. The inner comfort pads are generous and would protect the head in an impact. I am anticipating the arrival of the next larger size so I can put the helmet on the road for testing of the other features like weight, balance, wind noise and airflow with the anti-fog inner shield in the Summer heat of Georgia.

It's a great value and its looks sharp also. I already own one HJC FG-17 and I'm buying this one for my son. You can't buy a better helmet for even close to this price.

HJC helmets rate very well for their price, bikers in Aus should check out the crash website (Consumer Rating and Assessment of Safety Helmets) for comparisons between helmets they're considering.

For street, track day, and road racing use. I found the cheek pads more firm on this over the RPHA helmet. This fit my head better and more firmly. The vents really work.

Kind of a random question, but are the graphics removable? I really like the racing stripe in the middle but might seek to remove some of the other graphics. Would they peel off?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. Graphics are not removable. I have the blue color scheme and like it a lot. I have always had solid color helmets in the past, so I took a chance at full graphics on this helmet. It looks better in person than on the computer screen. It has a good amount of white on front and back for good visibility to other drivers. I don't wear full black helmets on the street anymore. Got to be seen. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Is the FG-17 ideal for sports bike street riders, that are typically in the 3/4's and fully tucked position?
Desmond F on Aug 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes. My street bike is a Yamaha WR450F dirt bike made street legal. Upright position. The top vents don't flow air unless you tilt your head down, and then they flow great. Very noticeable. I bought this helmet to road race with and do track days in Texas. Perfect for sport or race riding positions Great helmet. Cheek pads more firm than on the Arpha. That's good. Snug, but very comfortable for me.
Would this helmet be functional for a street sports bike rider, typically riding in the 3/4's and fully tucked position?
A shopper on Aug 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've used mine anywhere from fully tucked to fully upright. I think it works fine. Visibility is great, the only thing I would caution on is comfort. If you were expecting to stay in a tuck for long periods of time, the neck padding can dig in a little and try to 1. push your head down making it difficult to keep your eyes up and 2. become a little sore to the muscles at the back of your neck. I don't know that this is the best track helmet, if that's your intentions, but I've found that mine is just a great all around helmet, with the added safety of a snell certification, for a completely reasonable price.
Has any added a Sena SMH-10 headset to this helmet? Do the speakers fit? Thanks!
David S on Feb 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have the Cardo Scala G9 in my helmet. The speakers fit fine. Plenty of room so they don't stick out at all.
