Best Gloves I have worn THese gloves are comfortable, they seem to have great protection and are very good looking! The fit is great most gloves fit my fingers but not my palm so it starts to hurt and fatigue in to the ride. While the fingers are just a tad long the palm is perfect and I just finished a 200 mile ride with no issues! April 1, 2013
Expected better quality and fit. After ruining in crash my old Alpinestars gloves, I decided to upgrade and get better protection for my palms; and got those gloves for track and canyon aggressive riding. Those gloves offer protection in places were you need it most , it feels secure wearing those and going down. The fit is weird, the knuckles part feel very tight (hopefully will loosen up after some time) and fingers are too long (no snug feeling like in Alpinestars). Also, stitching is not perfect for this price range; in one place I can see the light through the right glove. If this item is on closeout sale, I would recommended it. To pay full price, I would think and check the other brands in the same price range. Hope it helps. February 25, 2013
Good gloves - I feel very safe wearing them I bought these gloves on closeout - I'm very happy with them. They feel very well constructed and give me a good sense of safety. Highly recommended!!! February 11, 2013
highly recommended for this first generation i saw that these went on closeout due to a newer version being made. i jumped on buying these due to not liking titanium parts as a knuckle protector (metal knuckles are illegal in most states and i know that i may be paranoid about getting in trouble for something such as this, but better safe than sorry if you get the wrong officer on the wrong day and all). i was very nervous about buying any gloves that are less than size 13 due to my large hands, but in this case it worked out far better than the Knox Handroids that i have. the Knox gloves are great and all, but they took time to break in and get to stretch to fit my hands. these Held Phantoms fit VERY well right out of the package. no weird spots inside to get flattened out inside of the gloves like with the Knox gloves. everything just fits well. the one issue that i have is with the long pinky. this is a common thing on most every glove though. i will be soaking them with warm water before the riding season starts and wear them for a few hours to get them to fit even better and hopefully this takes care of the flaccid pinky problem. Excellent Air Flow, Comfort, and Protection Although a bit on the pricey side, you can definitely feel the protection you are buying in this glove. The airflow is excellent, maybe a little too excellent to wear outside of the summer months. They are also extremely comfortable with the kangaroo palm. You can really feel almost everything you touch while wearing these gloves. Overall, would really recommend this product for warm weather racing and riding. January 14, 2013
As good as it gets I've been wearing gauntlet-style gloves since 1995, and the Phantoms cause me regret for waiting so long to get a pair. EVERYTHING is better about these when compared to the $140-180 range I'm used to wearing. And considering the years of use a good pair of gloves with give you, the price difference is essentially negligible. You'll like them, trust me. Lastly, kudos to Revzilla for quickly getting me the next size down and not charging me some silly 'restocking fee'. December 24, 2012
The Law of diminishing returns These gloves are extremely high quality, and the high price would hint towards that. I have not compared these to any other "high-end" gloves, as I've only used $100 range gloves in the past. All the $100 gloves failed to satisfy my needs, so I decided rather than buying gloves continuously spending hundreds of dollars over and over - equalling thousands before I know it - might as well spring for the best. The tactile feeling is WORLDS more than my 6 year old (seriously broken-in) cowhide gloves. There is no comparison, but it's because the kangaroo palm is so much thinner. Doesn't feel any less strong, only thinner (because thinner kangaroo is stronger than thicker cow), to save weight and add to the tactile feel. There are a LOT of stitches in these gloves, but my diligent eye could not find one single stitch that wasn't PERFECT. Wow. That's not just rare these days, it's unrealistic. These gloves are pretty amazing. The rivet in the velcro wrist strap is engineered so well, for ease of grabbing the end to release during removal. Everything is so well thought out and engineered. Not made in Germany, but designed there, and made somewhere near there. Hungary. August 1, 2012
THE best gloves in it's category! Tried quite a few different gloves on before the Phantoms. None came close. Have had them for 3 months or so now. I use these daily commuting to and from work, rain or shine. Also use them on weekends for some aggressive riding. Have "held" up amazingly. It is quite an investment in terms of gloves. But looking at protection, tactile feel, materials, quality and comfort you cannot go wrong with these. You really do get what you pay for. Lets in good amounts of airflow and you dont get that clammy gross feeling you get from cheaper gloves with dodgy materials. Negatives for me were that it seems to bunch up a bit under my fingers curling over the handlebars. Also after an hour or so of riding your hands start to go a bit numb and tingly. But taking the gloves off for 5 minutes and you're good to go. That and my fingers seem to end up right at the fingertips of the gloves. Might just be the sizing of my hands. I found that they were pretty much a perfect fit out of the pack. After a few hours riding with them they seem to stretch out a bit and feel even better. If you are worried about sizing, get your measurements and possibly look into getting it smaller than what you are if in doubt. All in all a great purchase and well worth the $$$. Enjoy!!! A shopper asked: Where are these gloves manufactured? Oct 9, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The higher end Held gloves (like the Phantom and Titan) were made in Germany until recently. However, our latest inventory came from the new Hungary factory. Held personally owns and runs the factory in Hungary and all the higher end gloves are still made by hand.

Below is the process used to make a Phantom glove as described by Held in their catalog (this process is similar for any of their gloves that are made from Kangaroo though):

Punching: Before processing, the leather is soaked so that it can be stretched for cutting. The punching machine now punches out the individual parts. An individual hide is rarely completely perfect. Faulty sections (damaged by thorns or barbed wire or ticks) are rejected. A single Phantom glove consists of 156 single pieces and requires 18 minutes of punching time.

Real Held gloves go through fire: Punched-out carbon panels are heated in the oven to 450 degree's Celsius. After 1 minute, the carbon becomes soft and can be reshaped. The carbon panel is then placed under a 40-ton press to give it its final form. This is the carbon knuckle-protector which will eventually be built into the back of the glove.

Stitching and Assembly: 90 minutes of sewing time are needed to complete a pair of gloves.

Testing the best: Finally all Held gloves are carefully formed (precurve) on hot metal irons (which are shaped like hands). Once this operation is complete, each glove is checked for faults in material and workmanship one last time.

Held's attention to detail: Round-cut fingers provide a pre-shaped form for maximum user comfort. Leather parts are overlapped where they meet and joined with backstitch to provide the finest seam. This gives the gloves a highly sensitive feel. Each special seam takes 30 minutes of hand work. The finger gusset is pulled forward, so there is no pressure on the finger from the seams.

Scott B: I believe it is China. I know for sure that it isn't manufactured at the same location as the racing suits, so the quality might not be as good as those. Jan 8, 2013

Mikey334: The sizing chart provided by Held is quite accurate unless you have shorter (or longer) fingers than average. The 'tape around the widest part of the palm' technique worked for me. Dec 24, 2012

Held Glove Fitment Tips

Held gloves should fit snugly when new. They will stretch out during break in and form to fit your hand.

If you have long fingers, but a relatively narrow palm you should order a size up as the size chart does not account for finger length.

Please note, if your hand measures toward the upper limit of the size measurements, the gloves will fit very snugly. If you prefer that your gloves do not fit so snugly, you may want to select the next size larger. Held kangaroo gloves are a very precise fit. Because Held gloves are such a fitted glove, many people enjoy the snug fit. This is actually very comfortable, with few wrinkles and little crumpling in the palm area.

A properly fitted Held will "fit you like a glove".
