GMax GM54S Pink Ribbon Modular Helmet

The modular design allows the "flip-jaw" to rotate further back on the crown of the helmet. The further rotation of the flip-jaw not only increases the user's line-of-sight when in the raised position, but it also lessens the user's fatigue by maintaining an even distribution of weight across the helmet.

First helmet purchase As a new rider, I was looking for a good value purchase. Here are my impressions after 2-1/2 years of use. This helmet is LOUD and HEAVY. I have had to use the Blue Hearos Ear Plugs - Xtreme Protection Series, and I still think the wind noise it too much. There is not much else I know what to do about it except buy a better helmet next time. Also, the slider on top, for the tinted inside visor, broke after about a year of use. So I am forced to "nod" my head downward quickly to get the visor to move down enough to grab it with my fingers. Otherwise, I like the design. But like I said, because of the weight and noise, I will upgrade next time. April 13, 2015
Not a bad helmet for your money I was pretty stoked when I bought this helmet. I have had modulars before but my latest was 3 years old and it was time for an upgrade. First thing I noticed was the look. Awesome. I ride a 2012 Yamaha Stryker, a cruising bike, so I get the odd glance when I ride up with a full face on. This one gets me looks because its straight awesome. I have only been able to wear it a few times because the snow wont leave North Dakota alone, but this is what I can tell you so far. The Good: -The vents are metallic grill inserts that really pop against the flat black I ordered. -The design offers a nice smooth cut through the wind. Pretty easy on the neck at 75mph and its easy to look over your shoulder for those pesky 4 wheels. -The padding is awesome. Makes you feel nice and secure without squeezing to tight. -Airflow is great. Vents work amazing and I haven't had an issue with overheating. Of course I haven't ridden in hot weather yet but so far so good. -Color options are basic but that flat black is NICE. -The helmet surprisingly fits just a bit big for all the padding. I used the measurement chart and I am active duty so I KNOW what size hat I wear but that being said its actually nice for me because I like to wear a head scarf (hey, 34 is cold at 6am) and it gives me a nice secure fit when I have it on. -I didn't notice it when I bought it online but this helmet has a freaking red LED light on the back. You push the button once, it lights up. You push it again, it flashes slow. One more push and it is a fast flash. Talk about awesome. Not to mention the "Safety Aspect" of visibility to anything behind you. But who really cares about that? Its a freaking LED light on the back of your helmet!! Come on! The Bad: -I ride with headphones in so I cant really speak for road noise but it does tend to get windy at times. -I haven't gotten used to the wind guard under the chin, especially when raising and lowering the face you have to tilt your head a bit. For the chilly North Dakota mornings its great, but its taking a bit of getting used to. -The visor tends to fog up on cold mornings. Could be the wind guard under the chin but for the good airflow it was unexpected. Also, the thumb grip to raise the visor is a bit small to work against the resistance of the mechanism. Again, the helmet is new so I hope it will smooth out with wear. -My last helmet had the modular release button just inside the bottom of the chin and you just had to push the button and raise. It was a natural motion. This helmet has a sliding latch on the front of the chin and you have to push up on it and then raise the face. Obviously it needs worked a bit to break in and get smooth but the motion seems unnatural. -Oh what I wouldn't give for a quick release helmet strap instead of having to buy one and install it myself! At least include one. OK, I am off my soap box. P.S. First order from Revzilla. Fantastic job guys! No issues, fast delivery, perfect shape. Will DEFINITELY make this my first stop from now on. Enjoying This Helmet I purchased this helmet because I am taking a road trip in June and wanted some extra protection since my Harley Sportster doesn't have a windshield. I love the modular aspect, since it gives me the openness that my Rogue helmet gives me. The smoked visor is really a nice feature for me because I wear glasses and I don't have to switch to sunglasses while riding. The visor fits great over my glasses with no issues. The venting is good. The fit is great! And the LED light in the back is a cool feature! Finally, the wine color is a very close match to the color of my Sportster! I ride everyday so it's nice to have a helmet that I can switch off to for a long road trip or for night riding! April 6, 2015
Very good features for this price All round excellent helmet. I really like the modular design as it makes have a quick conversation easier when you stop at lights. I chose this particular helmet because it was modular and also as it had the interior flip down tinted sun visor - a huge bonus. Do not mess with sun glasses - the inside sun visor is the only way to go. A few of my vent flaps have disappeared despite careful handling. Clear screen fogs up in the rain - can't seem to get that to stop. The helmet is comfortable for about the first 20 minutes and then I feel intense pressure/ pain on the top of my head. I tried the helmet before purchase, but this is just a reminder you need to walk around with the helmet on for 30 minutes or so to see if you have problems. If it wasn't for the head ache I would use this helmet more. However I now use it just for short trips or at night because it has the blinky red light in the back which is excellent. March 20, 2015
Great helmet for its price I actually thought it would be a bit more tough but then again it wouldn't be as light as it is. Overall, its a great helmet with no cons what so ever but it is a bit big for whenever i wear it people say i look like the stig in top gear so yeah its not that bad March 7, 2015
GREAT HELMET This helmet is freakin awesome!!! Modualr, plenty of ventilation, drop down eye shades and the LED light is a bonus, especially for all you night riders. 2 thumbs up. Thanks revzilla!!! February 23, 2015
Great helmet! Excellent product and excellent service from Revzilla. I already had one for myself so bought this for the wife. She really enjoys it as much as I. Enjoy the modular design. February 9, 2015
Excellant choice for a modulare helment This is the second modular helmet I have owned. I find this much more comfortable than my previous helmet plus the integrated sun shield is a really great feature. While the helmet may be a little heavier it isn't really noticeable. The vents work well. January 12, 2015

A shopper asked: Is this helmet good for sledding? Mywife loves the design but I need to make sure it will function as a snow helmet before buying it. Thanks! Jan 1, 2013

A S: I've seen a SNOW version of this same helmet. Look for the word snow in the item description. The seal around the shield looks a little different than the motorcycle version. Mar 12, 2014

A shopper asked: May have missed it on the Product spec. Is this compatible with Blue Tooth Systems? Aug 26, 2013

James S: We currently have a Sena blue tooth system mounted on our GMax modular and it has worked fine. Aug 27, 2013

Emery E: The GMax GM54S helmet does not have a mounting socket like the HJC BT or Nolan N-Com models. Any communications unit would be mounted externally. The helmet does have small pockets for speakers. Aug 30, 2013

A S asked: How does this helmet fit with eyeglasses (sun glasses or prescription)? I've worn contacts in the past, but want the option of wearing my glasses. I always seem to have trouble getting them in the helmet under the pads after I have the helmet on. Just wondering if anyone with glasses has experience wearing them with the GMAX 54s? I bought a size small in this helmet but it feels a little big...thinking I should exchange for an XS but I'm worried I won't be able to fit my glasses with an XS. I can get the SM helmet on while I'm wearing the glasses, but can't get the glasses on if I put the helmet on first...padding is too snug near the eye/ear area. Mar 12, 2014

Sylvain S: Hi, this is a FLIP-UP helmet, therefore, you put your eyeglasses first, open the flip-face of the helmet, put the helmet on your are good to go! If the intent would be to put the glasses after, just go with a full-face!

I have a C3 Shuberth, and no way that I could put my eyeglasses on after the helmet, just to tight around the ear area.

Note: this helmet (GM54S) looks great, but is heavy and noisy! (to wear with earplugs...) My wife just told me that she would not recommend it for the quality..., I gave her the option of C3 Shuberth or SHOEI Neotec and she picked up this one for the "design". Good for short ride (within 60 minutes) but longer than that, you will suffer! Let just say that you get what you pay for!

If you are looking for a woman design, check the full face SHOEI RF-1100 Corazon at $350, more expansive but not in the same quality range!

Robert M: Since this is a flip open modular helmet, my wife puts on the helmet OPEN with her glasses ON.

It might be cheaper to buy other sized cheek pads than pay return shipping. (Learned the hard way elsewhere).

A shopper asked: Helloooo dose this helmet have the Australian standerad compliceance sticker slash ratting on it spanks :-)? Aug 11, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chris KStaff: No, helmets sold through RevZilla (and any other US dealer) only carry the DOT certification and will not come with an AUS compliant sticker. Sorry for the disappointment! Aug 12, 2013
