GMax GM54S Modular Helmet - Solid

The modular design of the GMax GM54 allows the flip-jaw to rotate further back on the crown of the helmet. The further rotation of the flip-jaw not only increases the user's line-of-sight when in the raised position, but it also lessens the user's fatigue by maintaining an even distribution of weight across the helmet.

Features:

  • Inner flip sun shield is easily raised of lowered with a lever located on the exterior of the helmet
  • Distortion-free clear single lens face shield
  • Integrated multi-function red LED rear light
  • One hand, easy to use chin bar push-to-open mechanism
  • Lightweight thermo-plastic alloy shell
  • Excellent shield sealing reduces unwanted air and noise
  • D.E.V.S Dual Exhaust Venting System top, side, and rear venting reduces fogging and sweating by allowing hot air to escape from the mouth area and top of head
  • Adjustable chin vent directs air upward across the inside of the shield to help reduce or eliminate fogging
  • Large eye port for improved range of vision
  • Coolmax comfort liner and cheek pads move the moisture away from your body and the fabric dries quickly
  • Removable and washable interior and adjustable cheek pads allow for more comfortable sizing
  • Deluxe ear pockets for better fit and comfort
  • Built in speaker pockets for communication systems
  • Soft padded chin strap
  • Painted shell with high quality clear coat finish
  • Soft helmet bag included

Great Helmet
Less than 36 hours after purchasing this helmet, It became clear that I would have to purchase another helmet, and, Without any second thought, the new helmet would be another GMax GM54S Modular Helmet, You may be asking why I would buy another one less than 36 hours purchasing the first one? Well, the first one made contact with the asphalt with my head inside it at 35-40 mph. Speaking from first hand knowledge as to how well this helmet protected my head, Not a scratch, bruise or bump on my head, not even a headache, Well Done Gmax!

On a budget?
I've had this helmet for almost 2 years now and have had no problems with it all. At the time I was light on cash but was in need of a decent helmet with ok reviews and this went beyond my exceptions for the price. Nothing over the top in features but if youre new to riding and need something quick, pick this up. I now use it as a back up/passenger helmet. As always shipping from from revzilla was spot on.

A Functional Modular On A Budget
I've always been a half helmet guy, from the entry level Fuel line to my Bell Rogue. Finding a 3X to comfortably fit my large noggin was difficult.

Living here in Florida and getting around a thousand miles a week of saddle time, I inevitably end up in the rain at some point. Not just any rain...I'm talking about the kind where sane people put on their 4 ways and look for the shoulders. Me? I'm on 2 wheels and have places to go and people to see. No stopping for this guy.

Rain in the face at 70 MPH is unpleasant. It's like a billion angry garden gnomes took up their Daisy Red Ryders and are having a go at your grill. It stings. It reduces vision. It ain't fun.

Add to that the flocks of....post retirement age seniors from up north we get who are completely unaccustomed to these deluges and drive worse than they normally do. Lots of folks on 2 wheels go down.

I bought this helmet as insurance against all of the above. The price was smoking hot, and once the helmet is broken in, it's not that uncomfortable. Yes, it's substantially heavier than my wife's modular, but hers cost twice as much. It's heavy, but my over-sized pumpkin has a large and strong neck underneath it. It's also pretty loud, but I overcome that with the built in ear pockets and an inexpensive bluetooth solution.

It's also pretty durable, and stylish looking, and the built in retractable sun visor is the bees knees.

If it were stolen, I'd buy it again, seeing as how I have so much money left over from the first one.

Revzilla does NOT play around with shipping either. It arrived quickly, and I was able to track it the entire time to prevent some less than stellar citizen from snaking it off of my porch.

Pros: Comfortable, budget priced, adaptable

Cons: Heavy, a tad more wind noise than I like in a modular.

Features exceed price expectations
This helmet really shines in two areas: features and cost. For the low cost of this helmet, it includes all of the features of a top-of-the-line modular from a big name brand company.

Pros:
- Chin strap
- Good venting, flows air very well
- Inner visor is nice and easy to operate with gloves on
- Modular flip up is easy to operate with gloves on
- Rear light is a nice extra safety feature, but too dim to be considered useful during the day.

Cons:
- Weight: It has all the features of a top helmet, but weighs considerably more
- Noise: Above 45mph~, the helmet has quite a bit of wind noise
- Fogging: The face shield can fog while stopped, but clears up immediately upon movement
- Plastic: The vents feel pretty cheap, not sure how they will hold up in the long term so I try to be careful with them

I think you will be hard pressed to find a comparable helmet in this price range in terms of features.

Wish I'd bought this as my first helmet
I was looking for an upgrade to my Bell Star helmet, specifically a modular style. This one fit the bill in several areas. I love not having to purchase a tinted visor as the drop down sun visor built in works nicely! However, having a prominent nose, the sun visor touches it slightly. Not a deal breaker, just a heads up to anyone with a gargantuan nose.

The wind noise is noticeably greater than my previous helmet, although the aerodynamics of the GMAX are a HUGE improvement. Additionally, looking over my shoulder doesn't send airflow from under the helmet, causing misalignment of my glasses. This was a problem with my Bell.

Field of vision is great! Nothing negative to say about the visor!

If you're on a budget and looking for a modular with a lot of extras, this is it! I recommend earplugs at highway speeds, its tolerable for in town riding.

helmet is all that Revzilla says that it is.
I took the Gmax gm54s out for its first spin this weekend. The fit felt very secure and comfortably snug. I like the ease of operating both visors. The Sun Shade visor is great with the only exception that I find that it distorts my vision slightly with my prescription glasses. I will probably restrict my use of that only to those times when the sun is in my face. I find that the noise level is pretty quiet and airflow seems good. It is really nice to put on a helmut with a pristine visor. Guess that will not last for ever but was not overlooked or unappreciated. Color is great: almost a rock solid match for the moto guzzi metallic grey. Very pleased in Virginia

Enjoying This Helmet
I purchased this helmet because I am taking a road trip in June and wanted some extra protection since my Harley Sportster doesn't have a windshield. I love the modular aspect, since it gives me the openness that my Rogue helmet gives me. The smoked visor is really a nice feature for me because I wear glasses and I don't have to switch to sunglasses while riding. The visor fits great over my glasses with no issues. The venting is good. The fit is great! And the LED light in the back is a cool feature! Finally, the wine color is a very close match to the color of my Sportster! I ride everyday so it's nice to have a helmet that I can switch off to for a long road trip or for night riding!

Great helmet for the money
Chose this helmet based on all the features for the money. Love the built-in visor! Plenty of vents. And i like the look.

As for sizing, my head measures right between M and L. I decided to err on the side of more snug and went with M. When I first put it on, i was a bit worried it may not be comfortable after wearing it a while, and nearly returned it for the Large. I'm glad I didn't, though. After several rides of about an hour each, It's never been the slightest bit uncomfortable.

Only bad thing I had ever read about the helmet was that the shield fogged up pretty bad in cold weather. Well, my rides in it so far have been in 35-55 degrees. At 35, it wanted to fog up at longer lights, but i just popped up the shield. Hasn't bothered me at all. Also, they sell replacement shields that are dual-pane or electric at reasonable prices, so I may do that if I start to ride more in colder weather. I can imagine it could get pretty bad if it were much colder out.

If you are considering this helmet, just buy it. you won't regret it.

Excellant choice for a modulare helment
This is the second modular helmet I have owned. I find this much more comfortable than my previous helmet plus the integrated sun shield is a really great feature. While the helmet may be a little heavier it isn't really noticeable. The vents work well.

This helmet is the one I had been trying to find for years! Great visibility, ventilation and price. Sun visor lever is on the top so it can be reached with both hands. I use the "snow" shield year around in western WA with NO fogging...regardless of weather. My Sena SMH 10 installed in minutes. It has pockets for the speakers. Very nice helmet. This will be my second GM54S. First one saved me during a low side crash in November of 2015. The helmet is very comfortable and cool in the summer (NY) and can be closed up warmer in the winter. Brake light is a great feature as I ride at night a lot. My SMH10 fits great on it and the speaker pockets make for a great install. The drop down visor is a great feature that I use frequently. My only gripe is the d-ring, a quick release would make this perfect.

I have had one for myself for 2 snowmobiling seasons now and it served me so well this one will be for my dad. Such a warm helmet when you need it to be but the vents work very well when it's warm out. I have no hesitation purchasing GMAX helmets they are always very comfy.
Tanner M on Nov 2, 2015
This is now my favorite helmet. XL head that's long and narrow... this helmet fits great. Not as quiet as my Schuberth C3, but it fits better and is cooler in the heat. Not as noisy as the old Nolan modular or my Zox. Shields are under 20 bucks. Nothing convinces you to look elsewhere like scratching a 100 buck C3 shield.

Incredible price for so many features. Many positive reviews of this item. I love the modular design, plus the included sun visor and rear light. Great colour options. It also fits round heads very well - I was able to try on this model elsewhere and it fit my round head much better than some other options (HJC/LS2/Icon seemed more oval). This has allowed me to get a snugger (safer) fit.

I am looking for a helmet to use during colder rides, as I generally wear a half in the summer
months. Are the vents on this helmet closable? when it is 45 you dont want a bunch of air blowin through your helmet!!!

BEST ANSWER: I have ridden with this helmet in the 20s. Vents close nicely, the only thing you have to worry about is wind up into the bottom so wear a neck gaiter, balaclava or bandana.

BEST ANSWER: I don't speak spanish, but think you asked about head shape. I have a fairly round head and it fits me great. My friend put it on he has a larger ovalish head and it fit him well too.
My head size is 24 1/2 inches. Kind of in between a XL and 2X. Any suggestions on size?

BEST ANSWER: Every head and helmet is different. My head size is 23 3/4, but I have a bigger jaw and cheeks and the 2XL in the GMAX fits great. I can wear the GMAX XL although it is a little snug. I have had 3 GMAX helmets, and they are the most comfortable/functional helmets I have ever had for my head/face - even though I don't believe they are the most aesthetically pleasing.
