GMax GM54S Derk Modular Helmet

The modular design of the GMax GM54 allows the flip-jaw to rotate further back on the crown of the helmet. The further rotation of the flip-jaw not only increases the user's line-of-sight when in the raised position, but it also lessens the user's fatigue by maintaining an even distribution of weight across the helmet.

  • Inner flip sun shield is easily raised of lowered with a lever located on the exterior of the helmet
  • Distortion-free clear single lens face shield
  • Integrated multi-function red LED rear light
  • One hand, easy to use chin bar push-to-open mechanism
  • Lightweight thermo-plastic alloy shell
  • Excellent shield sealing reduces unwanted air and noise
  • D.E.V.S Dual Exhaust Venting System top, side, and rear venting reduces fogging and sweating by allowing hot air to escape from the mouth area and top of head
  • Adjustable chin vent directs air upward across the inside of the shield to help reduce or eliminate fogging
  • Large eye port for improved range of vision
  • Coolmax comfort liner and cheek pads move the moisture away from your body and the fabric dries quickly
  • Removable and washable interior and adjustable cheek pads allow for more comfortable sizing
  • Deluxe ear pockets for better fit and comfort

Lots of features. I bought this helmet for my GF, and I love the light up bar on the back of the head. The modular style is very comfortable and another nice feature is the removable wind blocking fabric at the chin. October 5, 2015
Very pleased Purchased because of past experience with this brand. Very satisfied overall. September 21, 2015
Excelent Helmet Great Visibility This is a must Buy, I just recently had a few close calls that made me want to go Hi VIS. I really Like this helmet so far have about 150 Hrs on it . it is a little noisy with all of the vents open. Love the Hybrid feature Not sure how I got by without it.. If your on the fence about going hi Vis just do it. Cars notice me now it is a definite change point. This is a very solid helmet and good price point.. September 16, 2015
Good helmet.great value! I bought this to replace my aging Arai full-face helmet. It is a little heavier than my old Arai, but makes up for it in every other way. I have great visibility and great airflow. It is a bit loud, but I think that is a trade-off for good airflow. In the Texas heat, airflow wins. I like the ability to take ear peices out...was especially helpful putting in headset. It has recessed ear holes, so there is plenty of room for speakers/headset.The built-in sun shield is awesome! Once you have one, you will never want another helmet without one. I would definitely buy it again. August 26, 2015
Bang for the Buck This modular helmet offers tremendous value for the $. Ample vents, slide-down sun shield, quality cushioning, easy-to-use modular design, xlnt visibility w/ the hi-viz paint, and the LED flasher in the rear of the helmet is brilliant. For $170, this helmet offers ALL of the features of helmets costing well over $500. Awesome! August 24, 2015
Like the features, a slight minus in quality. I got this helmet a few weeks ago and hadn't had much time to use it until recently. So here is my review. The noise isn't as loud as I was expecting out of a modular. I haven't gotten to really rip in it yet, so it could get bad at higher speeds, but for what I have been doing it is great. I got the flat black and it looks really sick. I get compliments on it when I get to take it out. The modular flip up front makes it easy to put it on with glasses on and makes it a comfortable wear. The flip down internal sun visor is pretty awesome as well. the rod that pushes it down seems a little flimsy, but we will see how it holds up. The one qualm I have with this helmet is the paint's durability. As I mentioned, I have the flat black, and I am very careful with it, but I still end up with little scratches here and there. Normally I wouldn't mind so much, because it happens, but the color under the outer layer of paint is white.... so it REALLY shows. Overall i would Recommend it. August 24, 2015
Great helmet I really like this helmet. I LOVE the included sun visor!!! I wear prescription glasses and I wont buy another helmet without this feature. I will say that it is a little loud though. I Live in Arizona so it is very hot. I ride with the modular portion up unless we get a monsoon storm. The wind noise is quite loud, even with a windshield on my scooter. Other than that, I installed a bluetooth speaker system so I can listen to some tunes while cruising and it works well. August 10, 2015
My family love it! I bought a number of these for my family, while I bought a Shoei Neotec helmet for myself! I'm not sure if there is that much difference! This helmet is awesome, and my kids love it. Revzilla Rocks! August 4, 2015

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
GUIDO J: the look of the helmet Apr 23, 2015
Ryan S: I knew I wanted a modular helmet. This one had a great price for the options I was looking for: built-in sun shades, modular capabilities, and cool style.
The back light is what really sold it for me though. 3-styles: always on, blinking slowly, blinking quickly. Safety first!

Kam E: HJC IS MAX BT unimpressed me... -_-
-price(first helmet)
-Lots of vents (desert)
-Back light (night time visibility)

Faran R: I already have a full face helmet and I wanted a modular for street riding and just get lazy at times with a face full.
After ready reviews from many different websites on sub $200 helmets this seemed to have received the most positive feed back.
Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. Gmax does seem to carry really comfortable helmets for the price.

Roberto B: I Have the Non-Modular version of this helmet, and like the style and the rear light. The modular feature makes it easier to talk without removing the helmet. May 2, 2014
Gary W: Like brand and apperance Mar 27, 2014
Andrew N: I picked this helmet because I had seen it in a shop where I live and had a chance to try it on and test out the modular features its has. The helmet feels very solid and provides good air flow when your riding. It also comes in an XS and that is very much appreciated as I have had a very hard time finding a helmet that will fit correctly and do what I want it to. Mar 24, 2014
brent b: I like the look of this one and it had much better reviews than the cheaper helmets I looked at as well as some of the more expensive ones. I had 200 dollars as my self inflicted limit. I wanted a bluetooth but it looks as though anything under 450 isn't worth buying as a single unit. Mar 22, 2014
Rhea s: This is a great helmet and I love it so much. Sep 24, 2013
Chris B: I went with this helmet because of the features and the price. I was originally looking at the regular 54s, but then I saw this styling and really liked it. Sep 8, 2013
Phillip M: Great fit and nice graphic design. Sep 5, 2013
A shopper asked: I have a full face helmet but wear glasses. I was interested in this helmet bc it was recommended by another Vstar owner. I like the brake light ability and the modular aspect.

Will the face close if I'm wearing my glasses or do I have to take them off, close the helmet, then slip them in through my visor like my full face one?

I like the communication pockets in the ears. How does that work or do you need other items?

Travon M: As far as the glasses go, you can slide the helmet on A LOT easier with the face open, and yes it will close with no problem. Another awesome thing about this is the inner shaded visor that slides down from the top so you do not have to worry about shades or buying an additional dark visor (this also gives you good distance from glasses to inner visor). I tend to put this helmet on with my glasses already on, close the face, drop the inner visor and ride out. As far as the communication pocket goes, I used a wired Bluetooth (earbuds with mic towards the bottom of the cord) which seemed to fit good, however; with the mic below the front of the helmet, I got a lot of wind gushing in to the mic so no one could understand me. I'm sure if the mic was attached to the ear itself,
It would sound a lot better. Overall, this helmet has good ventilation, great comfort, and to me is a must for glasses.

Chad S: Don't use the communication piece but if I wear glasses I put them on with the face open. Not through the visor. I think you need glasses that are thin and hug your head though. I have a certain pair with thin ear pieces. My Oakley eye glasses are too wide (rounded) off my head and I would be afraid of bending them in under the tight foam. The light is just flashing. Doesn't really do anything with breaks that I know of. Dec 15, 2014

Isaak R: The face is able to close even with glasses on. The ear pockets do require an aftermarket communications set, the helmet does not come with a radio or bluetooth headset. Dec 15, 2014
