GMax GM54S Derk Modular Helmet

The modular design of the GMax GM54 allows the flip-jaw to rotate further back on the crown of the helmet. The further rotation of the flip-jaw not only increases the user's line-of-sight when in the raised position, but it also lessens the user's fatigue by maintaining an even distribution of weight across the helmet.

Features:

  • Inner flip sun shield is easily raised of lowered with a lever located on the exterior of the helmet
  • Distortion-free clear single lens face shield
  • Integrated multi-function red LED rear light
  • One hand, easy to use chin bar push-to-open mechanism
  • Lightweight thermo-plastic alloy shell
  • Excellent shield sealing reduces unwanted air and noise
  • D.E.V.S Dual Exhaust Venting System top, side, and rear venting reduces fogging and sweating by allowing hot air to escape from the mouth area and top of head
  • Adjustable chin vent directs air upward across the inside of the shield to help reduce or eliminate fogging
  • Large eye port for improved range of vision
  • Coolmax comfort liner and cheek pads move the moisture away from your body and the fabric dries quickly
  • Removable and washable interior and adjustable cheek pads allow for more comfortable sizing
  • Deluxe ear pockets for better fit and comfort
  • Built in speaker pockets for communication systems
  • Soft padded chin strap
  • Painted shell with high quality clear coat finish
  • Soft helmet bag included
  • Optional rear brake light kit (sold separately)

This helmet has great features and highly functional
This is my first helmet and I have used it for a year. I just had my first wreck and was thrown up in the air and landed directly on the modular release mechanism of the helmet. which split under impact. The sun visor scratched the bridge of my nose. I had a concussion. At 35mph with dense fog. This helmet saved my life I will by this exact helmet for life from now on. I chose this helmet from reading a similar review from another rider who crossed paths with a deer. I ride in the rain, snow and heat. This helmet has all the features to keep your head dry and cool or warm. You cant loose with this helmet. This helmet gives me the same satisfaction of safety as my Kevlar did in the Army. I attached pictures of the helmet after the damage was done and myself. Like I said only a scrambled brain from the blow and superficial cut from the inner lens coming down. I will recommend this helmet to everyone.
Thank You GMAX and Revzilla

Great helmet
I am extremely happy with this helmet. I haven't had a street bike helmet for many years so I don't have alot of comparison. Overall the helmet fits great, sound level is acceptable and the included sun visor is fantastic. I don't like wearing sunglasses while riding because they restrict my vision. The light is great and I feel that it really catches motorist eyes.
Thanks for a great buying experience.

Great helmet for the price (It's safe too!)
First of all, this helmet has great featues for the price.

There are down sides to this helmet. It is loud and it is a bit heavy but all in all a great value.

Now, here is testimonial you rarely get in reviews like this...

I will tell you that this helmet will hold up in a crash and hold up well. I had to retire it this past weekend when someone pulled out in front of me. I was moving at about 40mph and had to panic stop. The front locked up and I tried to recover but could not. Luckily was tossed somewhere between high and low side instead of hitting their car broad side. I hit head first on the left side of the face guard and then slid on my left side for about 20 feet. There are deep scratches but it protected me from impact and from losing my face on the blacktop. I was worried about how a modualr helmet would hold up in a crash. This was not a high speed accident but something you could expect on surface streets and I walked away with only minor road rash on my left knee and some sore muscles.....If you want a good helmet at an affordable price...this is your helmet.

second helmet
Take it with a grain of salt as this is my second helmet I've ridden coming from a dissapointing hic IS modular.

That said I love this thing all kinds
+looks+feel++function+features+price

2 objections after about 2 weeks.
-my friend easily broke a plastic vent cover thinking it lifted the modular face..(?)
-the modular face started coming down without me touching it while walking. Upon inspection it looked like the holster screw was loosening over time ??!! That's safety so I had to shave a star for not having better. Longevity in mechanics..

Overall satisfied just take very good care of it. And pay attention to bolts.

Great Helmet for all Seasons
Fit me good and was very comfortable. Great on a cool morning but lots of vents and the modular design was great as the day warmed up. I will buy another one and recomend it to anyone. I got a lot of compliments on the rear led light I have to think this will be a standard feature on most in the near future.

Good helmet, lots of features, a little heavy though
Solid helmet. The light in the back is great and I love the style! It does run a bit heavy, and is a little loud because of all the vents and the open ear cups. Will give your neck a decent workout if you aren't used to it though!

Definitely recommended though for it's feature-set and price!

Nice Shape, features and comfortable too
The helmet looks as described with all features. The color and graphics match my bike. I still have not got a chance to test durability. I hope I never test that though.

I knew I wanted a modular helmet. This one had a great price for the options I was looking for: built-in sun shades, modular capabilities, and cool style.
The back light is what really sold it for me though. 3-styles: always on, blinking slowly, blinking quickly. Safety first!

HJC IS MAX BT unimpressed me... -_-
-price(first helmet)
-Lots of vents (desert)
-Back light (night time visibility)

I already have a full face helmet and I wanted a modular for street riding and just get lazy at times with a face full.
After ready reviews from many different websites on sub $200 helmets this seemed to have received the most positive feed back.
Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. Gmax does seem to carry really comfortable helmets for the price.

I picked this helmet because I had seen it in a shop where I live and had a chance to try it on and test out the modular features its has. The helmet feels very solid and provides good air flow when your riding. It also comes in an XS and that is very much appreciated as I have had a very hard time finding a helmet that will fit correctly and do what I want it to.
Andrew N on Mar 24, 2014
I like the look of this one and it had much better reviews than the cheaper helmets I looked at as well as some of the more expensive ones. I had 200 dollars as my self inflicted limit. I wanted a bluetooth but it looks as though anything under 450 isn't worth buying as a single unit.

Modular
joscar on Feb 22, 2016
I have a full face helmet but wear glasses. I was interested in this helmet bc it was recommended by another Vstar owner. I like the brake light ability and the modular aspect.

Will the face close if I'm wearing my glasses or do I have to take them off, close the helmet, then slip them in through my visor like my full face one?

I like the communication pockets in the ears. How does that work or do you need other items?

Thanks!
A shopper on Dec 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: As far as the glasses go, you can slide the helmet on A LOT easier with the face open, and yes it will close with no problem. Another awesome thing about this is the inner shaded visor that slides down from the top so you do not have to worry about shades or buying an additional dark visor (this also gives you good distance from glasses to inner visor). I tend to put this helmet on with my glasses already on, close the face, drop the inner visor and ride out. As far as the communication pocket goes, I used a wired Bluetooth (earbuds with mic towards the bottom of the cord) which seemed to fit good, however; with the mic below the front of the helmet, I got a lot of wind gushing in to the mic so no one could understand me. I'm sure if the mic was attached to the ear itself,
It would sound a lot better. Overall, this helmet has good ventilation, great comfort, and to me is a must for glasses.
Will eyeglasses fit in through the helmet?
A shopper on Feb 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This helmet is not designed to accommodate eyeglasses, but they will fit (with some difficulty however).
