GMax GM54S Derk Helmet
Great product for its price!
I ordered this helmet for four reasons: it was a modular helmet, it was available in Hi Viz yellow, it promised to have good ventilation, and because of the rear light.
The helmet did not disappoint. The modular system works as advertised, and it has all metal mechanism, which is safe. The latch to open took me some getting used to, I wish it was a little bigger and under the chin like a Schuberth, but beggars can't be choosers.
The Hi Viz yellow does not disappoint, it is truly a high visibility shade of yellow, not the canary yellow you see in pictures. It stands out quite well during the day and night.
Ventilation is very good, there are loads of options on vents to close and open, and I usually ride with all vents open because here in Virginia it's pretty humid. WIth all vents open I get no fog on the inside visor while moving, my prior helmet, a Joe Rocket RKT Prime got lots of fog inside. Hige improvement here.
The rear light is excellent. I end up riding at night a lot because of work, and adding that extra light point up behind my head is one extra layer of passive safety to help me be seen. I decided not to splurge for the available brake connection because the light is not brake-light bright, but for an extra light point it is good.
Fit is a little tight, I bought the large size, same as my other helmets, but I should have ordered extra large. I did not return to get a different size because I needed the helmet now (my previous helmet cracked when it fell in the garage), so I just ordered the extra large liner and different size cheek pads. With the new liner and pads the helmet fits great. When it gets cold I wear a Klim balaclava and even with the balaclava it fits well.
My two biggest gripes with the helmet are the cheap build quality and the way prescription glasses fit with the cheek pads.
The build quality could be a bit better, all the plastic bits on the vents are slightly flimsy and I can see I will have to be careful to keep them from breaking. Yes, it's a sub 200 dollar helmet, but even at this price point I think the plastic should have a better fit.
Prescription glasses tend to ride up on the helmet while riding because the cheek pads force them upward. The narrower pads I bought for helmet fitment helped a whole lot, but once in a while during a ride I have to push my glasses down. I wish there was a channel contoured into the cheek pads to prevent glasses from doing that, I am thinking of modifying my cheek pads to create such a channel.
Other than that the helmet is great, for the price I don't think you can find a better modular helmet.

This helmet is very comfortable and the cheek pads feel great. Peripheral vision is really good.
This is my first full-face helmet, so I have no frame of reference. Having said that, I love the fit of the GMax GM54s. I haven't had the chance to use it in hot weather, but the ventilation seems very good. And the wind noise level in not bad at all. The built in sun-shade is very handy as well. I have the flat black. My only complaint would be how easily the finish scuffed after my helmet slipped out of my hand onto the pavement while taking it of the helmet lock. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Wish I'd bought this as my first helmet
I was looking for an upgrade to my Bell Star helmet, specifically a modular style. This one fit the bill in several areas. I love not having to purchase a tinted visor as the drop down sun visor built in works nicely! However, having a prominent nose, the sun visor touches it slightly. Not a deal breaker, just a heads up to anyone with a gargantuan nose.
The wind noise is noticeably greater than my previous helmet, although the aerodynamics of the GMAX are a HUGE improvement. Additionally, looking over my shoulder doesn't send airflow from under the helmet, causing misalignment of my glasses. This was a problem with my Bell.
Field of vision is great! Nothing negative to say about the visor!
If you're on a budget and looking for a modular with a lot of extras, this is it! I recommend earplugs at highway speeds, its tolerable for in town riding.

A MUST Buy!!
I have had countless helmets over the years but this one ices the cake. It feels just better on my head. I can see more to the sides that any other helmet and the brake light with built in sun visor is just icing to the cake! Buy this one, you won't be disappointed!

Good features, big shell size.
The size of this helmet (the shell) is very large on your head! But GMax did a good job of taking weight off of it.

On a budget?
I've had this helmet for almost 2 years now and have had no problems with it all. At the time I was light on cash but was in need of a decent helmet with ok reviews and this went beyond my exceptions for the price. Nothing over the top in features but if youre new to riding and need something quick, pick this up. I now use it as a back up/passenger helmet. As always shipping from from revzilla was spot on.

A Functional Modular On A Budget
I've always been a half helmet guy, from the entry level Fuel line to my Bell Rogue. Finding a 3X to comfortably fit my large noggin was difficult.
Living here in Florida and getting around a thousand miles a week of saddle time, I inevitably end up in the rain at some point. Not just any rain...I'm talking about the kind where sane people put on their 4 ways and look for the shoulders. Me? I'm on 2 wheels and have places to go and people to see. No stopping for this guy.
Rain in the face at 70 MPH is unpleasant. It's like a billion angry garden gnomes took up their Daisy Red Ryders and are having a go at your grill. It stings. It reduces vision. It ain't fun.
Add to that the flocks of....post retirement age seniors from up north we get who are completely unaccustomed to these deluges and drive worse than they normally do. Lots of folks on 2 wheels go down.
I bought this helmet as insurance against all of the above. The price was smoking hot, and once the helmet is broken in, it's not that uncomfortable. Yes, it's substantially heavier than my wife's modular, but hers cost twice as much. It's heavy, but my over-sized pumpkin has a large and strong neck underneath it. It's also pretty loud, but I overcome that with the built in ear pockets and an inexpensive bluetooth solution.
It's also pretty durable, and stylish looking, and the built in retractable sun visor is the bees knees.
If it were stolen, I'd buy it again, seeing as how I have so much money left over from the first one.
Revzilla does NOT play around with shipping either. It arrived quickly, and I was able to track it the entire time to prevent some less than stellar citizen from snaking it off of my porch.
Pros: Comfortable, budget priced, adaptable
Cons: Heavy, a tad more wind noise than I like in a modular.

Good enough for this pricepoint
A lot of the vents and plastic on the outside of the helmet feel a little weak/cheap. The rear LED is not super bright. Overall the fit is great and the helmet has great features. I was able to fit my headphone speakers in to the little pouches built in to the cheek pads. I like the chin skirt that came with the helmet, and also that its removable. I'm sure I'll keep this helmet for a few years.
