Givi TN3101 Crash Bars Suzuki V-Strom DL650 2012-2016
Long decision process...
After a lot of back and forth between different brands I went with the Givi bars for my V-Strom 650 for two reasons: Price and Appearance.
The Givi bars were a little less expensive and I liked the powder coated matt look better than the glossy appearance on some others.
The bars went on in about 35 minutes with only a little work to get them lined up on the right side. Watch the videos on how to install them and fully expect the hardest part being the removal of the eight engine bolts on the DL650 (they're tough to get out).
The Givi bars look perfect and I have not had any of the vibration issues that others reported, and gave me pause.
I hope to never find out how well they do in a crash but know that my bike is better protected now than it was without them.
And, typical of Revzilla, they arrived at my home in crazy-fast time.

Tough and solid
Went on easy, looks good and feels solid. Instructions are lame but if you can change the batteries in your remote it shouldn't be a big deal.

nice looking, easy to install
The bars showed up on my doorstep very quickly after ordering. They were heavily wrapped in plastic wrap so there was NO chance of damage in shipping. After reading the instructions and watching a video, I was able to install them quite easily - albeit that getting tools behind the bars and inside the bodywork was a tight squeeze on my bike - as it probably will on most bikes. I fortunately have not needed them yet, and won't put the bike on its side just to test them. But I have had several positive comments from other bikers about them.

This product is more looks and minor protection than a full-on crash bar. That is ok for 99% of riders I am sure. The problem is the thing vibrates at 5,000 rpm. The cause is the botton joint not being able to securely trap the joiner piece. The solutioon is to grind down the metal spacer that goues betwixt, this is discussed in detail on various forums.

Easy to install
Hope to never need it but nice to have it installed on my new bike.

The bars themselves seem great, but...
So, the crash bars themselves seem great and look the part, following the contours of the bike very well but the replacement fasteners that Givi supplies suck. They seem to be made of some kind of very weak pot metal. I broke two of them with hand tools just tightening them onto my bike. Their instructions don't list a torque spec so you pretty much have to just do it by feel. Pro tip: 80 lb/ft is more than enough to break the heads off them.
Fortunately I was able to remove the v-shaped bracket that the motor attaches to to give me enough room to grip the remains of the broken bolts and back them out using some pliers.
I'm heading out to my local hardware place to see if I can get some suitable replacement bolts now.

Givi TN3101 Engine Guards Suzuki Vstrom 650 2012-2015
Overall a good product. The guards follow the lines of the bike well. Lots of value for the price.
The directions leave something to be desired..Not sure torque specs or if the use of LocTite is recommended.
The flange that bolts to the bike rotates around a screw. This may be less durable than a welded flange or may be beneficial as a break point under stress. It made the install a bit more of a PITA but maybe having the extra wiggle room makes install overall a little easier.
