Givi T491 TankLock Tankbag

The new TankLock system for tank bags promotes the elimination of all kinds of straps, or magnetic limpets, previously used to fasten the bag to the bike. Thanks to a small ring that is installed on the tank cap, incorporated with the unique structure of the base of the bag, the bag can now be attached by simply aligning it to the ring and pressing lightly until you hear the classic "clack." Equally easy is the removal of the bag; to release it you can just pull the red lever located in the base. The mounting rings vary by the fuel cap type, and you need to check the compatibility list to verify which ring is for use with your model of motorcycle.

Tanklock system is great, bag is kinda weird Since the only product descriptions I could find of this bag, whether on this site, any other site, and even on the Givi site, only focus on the TankLock attachment, it was a bit weird when I got the bag and realized that the side and front pockets were actually part of a fanny pack type thing that is attached via velcro. It's just odd. Other than that, the bag is one big compartment with a map pocket on top. Not sure why the description says expandable to 17 liters (maybe I am missing something, but I don't see anything that allows me to change it's size). Build quality seems excellent (time will ultimately tell as I have only had the bag a month or so). The rear of the bag (side closest to rider) slopes downward and has a tendency for contents to all gather there which is a somewhat unsupported area. I am a bit concerned, over time, that what support is there will give some and allow this area to contact the tank, thus defeating the whole TankLock premise. Again, only time will tell. Overall, I feel it was a pretty good value (easily over a $150+ less than a bags-connection set-up of comparable size). Use this bag on a Yamaha FZ1. October 17, 2012

I assumed I had to purchase the separate tank mounting ring, but on the tank mounting ring page it states "One ZT480F comes with the Givi TankLock Tankbag." So, do I or do I not need to purchase a separate mounting ring if I purchase this bag?

Answer: 
In order to install the Givi T491 Tanklock Tankbag, you will need both the Givi ZT480F TankLock Bag Ring, and the Givi Bike Specific Flange. The Givi T491 Tanklock Tankbag comes with one Givi ZT480F TankLock Bag Ring, but you will have to buy an extra one if you need to put it on another bike.
