Good protection for an aluminum plate.
I ride a lot of paved and gravel roads and this plate works good for this application. It will protect the oil filter from small rocks and sticks that kick up off the front tire. Not as heavy duty as a steel plate but works good for the average back country rider.

Protective and bulking looking
Added this to my 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650. It's protective but a little bulking looking. Not bad, just a little biggish. It does add some noise or echo, but I added a layer of truck bed liner spray and all is well.

Is what it is
This plate is more of a deflector, it's what I wanted and expected so I'm not surprised. It mounted up easy and looks good. I'm not out bashing my wee off stumps and boulders but if keeping rocks and road debris away from the exhaust and filter are what you need this looks good and doesnt weigh 10 lbs.

Looks great and does the job.
For an aluminum skid plate it will do a good job of protecting your oil filter and other parts from minor road and off road hazards. Obviously it is not as good as steel or such, but looks great and was very easy to install. Great look and great price.

Fits well
This skid plate fits very well but will need to be removed for an oil change. We will see how well it all hold together when unbolted. Hopefully the plastic washers won't all fall out and get lost.

Quality product
Happy with product and serves my purpose exactly. I plan on mostly road riding, pavement and stone, with light off roading.
If I planned to scrap rocks and logs on a more regular basis I would get a better skid plate. Meaning one that mounts to the frame and engine guards.

Fit and Looks are Great
The skid plate was pretty easy to install, however I did have to take a dent out of it that probably was a result of transport damage. If I could do it over again, I would probably order a steel skid plate as opposed to an aluminum one. I just can't imagine what the plate will look like after I hit something substantial. I should have sacrificed the weight for the durability. My bad. It is what they advertized though. I did expect it to be a welded one piece plate and not a riveted plate. If you can put up with it being aluminum, it's a nice product.

Fits well, but a bit flimsy
Fits great on the bike and will offer decent protection for minor bashing or flying stones. My dirt riding is mostly on fire roads, and this will work well for my purposes. If I did much trail riding, I would have likely spent the extra $ on a heavier skid plate, but I have another motorcycle for that. It is the cheapest option that does what I need it to.

great piece of work however one of the bolts was incorrect thread type and it was quite a tight fit, still manageable and looked the goods, be careful not to scratch when installing..

Recommended but my skid plate cracked at the right side outer bolt hole just from tightening. Not soft steel, so what is it?

Does this skid plate work with the OEM Suzuki centerstand?
A shopper on May 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't know the brand of my center stand because I bought it used. But whatever the brand, it should work. My skid plate went right on enough clearance.
Does a Givi RP3101 Skid Plate for Suzuki V-Strom DL650 2012-2014, does it need the TN3101 engine guard to mount to at the top?
A shopper on Apr 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. The Givi guard works independently of engine guards. It's a fairly light/medium weight guard, so it's assumed that it won't be taking a massive thumping off road, and in the case of the V-Strom mostly serves to protect the exposed pipes and oil filter from stones, debris, etc. encountered both on road and in light off-road situations. The guard connects at six points on the bike, including a bar that passes through the engine crank case. Again, it's a fairly light/medium weight duty guard, so if you're really planning to use the V-Strom in hard core off-road situations I'd go with another guard that attaches direclty to engine guards / crash guards, but for the occasional fire road and gravel track I've found it to work just fine, and haven't been concerned with any damage that might result the engine case from the direct attachment. As light as it is, it's still a fairly rigid and protective setup for normal use.

One more note, the guard has to be removed for oil service, but it's just six bolts, so it's a 2 minute thing before and after.

So far, I've been very happy with the Givi.
Will this part work with the SW Mototech crash bars without modification?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Because the skid plate is close to the engine there should be sufficient space between the crashbar frame and skidplate
Will it fit my 2015 V-Strom 650 ABS, The Givi website has the same part# for 2012-15?
A shopper on Jan 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not really qualified to answer as I have a 2012 650abs, but it fit well on mine and I understand that little has changed from the 2012 to the 2015. But be prepared to have patience as installation is a bit of a pain.
Will it fit with a center stand ?
A shopper on Feb 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It fits with the centers tan on my 2012 DL650a
this will mount to a Suzuki 2013 vstrom adv with out any additional brackets or modifications? does it need to be removed to change the oil and filter? how difficult is that?

thank you dave
A shopper on Nov 17, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the 2012 through 2013 models years are the same, and the skid plate attaches directly with the supplied hardware. Nothing extra required. Installation is easy, but getting to some of the nuts in order to tighten can get a bit fiddly at times, especially if you have larger hands and fingers. One piece of advice: there are four rubber washers/pads that must be inserted between the inside of the skid plate and the mount holes (which are on the engine case). Very little room to get your hand in there to line them up with the bolts. I found that using some double sided tape to secure them to the inside of the skid plate directly lined up over over the skid plate holes, and then poking a hole in the tape with an awl made lining them up for istallation much easier. Keeps them secure when your hands can't.

Plate must be removed for oil changes. Pain in the neck, but no more difficult than installation.

Additional note: if your're looking for a skid plate for serious off-road thumping as opposed to just general protection for the pipes and oil filter you may want to consider something more rugged. The Givi is very nice and definitely does the job for road and light off-road, but it does mount directly to the engine, so if you're going to really pound the underside you should go with something that attaches to the frame and crash bars/engine guard.
