Garmin VIRB Elite Action Camera

VIRB Elite records true HD 1080p video that lets you relive every minute of your adventure in full, high-contrast, undistorted detail. Adjust resolution and filming speed for crisp, dramatic slow motion up to 120fps. And it’s all seen through our WideVü lens and processed through 16 megapixel CMOS sensor for the highest quality video, even before you start editing it.

VIRB Elite has high-sensitivity GPS for data stamping and GPS-based “smart” recording profiles such as Skiing Mode, which automatically records your downhill runs and stops recording while you’re getting hot cocoa or waiting in the lift line. It's also equipped with Wi-Fi for wireless communication to your smartphone or computer. So you can see the image preview, control for playback, adjust camera settings, and record and stop the camera or remotely snap still photos, even while the camera is filming.

Why mash a button and hope you got the shot when you can set-up, preview and playback video on a built-in, full-color chroma display? The 1.4" display on VIRB is also your window into the menu settings. Check your shot before you leap, choose slow motion or even switch between video and still photography. It’s always on the screen, and the screen is always on.

Engineered for easy operation with a large, instant record slider switch on the side of the camera. The slide and click of the switch makes it easy to know that you are recording, even if you’re wearing gloves. The overall design of the camera is both sleek and rugged which helps you integrate VIRB into your activity without having to work around a blocky camera.

VIRB Elite is a high-powered digital photo camera too. With 16 megapixel photo capture LDC to make your photos sharper, clearer and less distorted. Shoot 16 megapixel, 12 megapixel or 8 megapixel as a single shot or choose Photo Burst or Time Lapse at various intevals. And it’s all processed through a 16 megapixel CMOS processor for high quality images. Also allows you take still photos at the same time you are recording video with just a touch of the button on either your remote Garmin device or on the camera itself.

Record and playback with ease One of my biggest frustrations with my GoPro3+ was the lack of positive tactile feel when the shutter button is depressed while wearing motorcycling gloves. Too many time I press the button to start recording, but apparently didn't press the button hard enough so it doesn't start recording and then when I press it to stop, it starts recording.. so I switched to Virb. The large slider is hard to mess up, I used it to record my trip to Europe and it didn't miss a beat, plus being able to completely control the Virb's operation from the Garmin Zumo 590 GPS is the icing on the cake; you can start recording and stop, and the display on the GPS tells you how long you've been recording. You can also take pics from the GPS control app, in addition to full functionality from a smartphone. The photo and video quality is excellent and the longevity of the battery is also excellent. I had a spare battery so at mid day, I'd swap batteries to be sure I don't run out of juice. You can also charge the battery while recording. Highly recommended. I attached a few pics, I hope they appear. December 1, 2014
Okay But Needs Work Bought this camera after seeing that it had the capability to record satellite data and capture g-force's. I looked at some demo videos before purchasing and decided to move forward. It seems to do a good job of recording track. It even allows you to do that without taking video. The sensors (assumed to be accelerometers) aren't producing good results when used for pitch, roll, and lateral forces. The data jumps around and isn't accurate or consistent. It could be the software or camera. I'm working with Garmin support to get through those details. The sound that the camera records is simply horrible. The wind noise is unacceptable. I think it has the potential to be great but for now, I'll leave it at okay. Do I recommend it? If you are interested in these features, yes. If you're looking for a simple camera, no. Garmin seems to be providing consistent updates to their software and firmware will hopefully continue to improve it like their competition did. September 22, 2014
Garmin Virb Elite Using virb elite on my helmet, so far so good. I love the many gauges and sensors you can hook up like heart rate for example. So much wind noise using by itself, I ordered the external mic for it. It help a lot when i put a clear tape over the mic hole. Using my S4 samsung view and control the camera was so easy, it work right away the first time a sync it with the cam. here's a sample of video and you guys can check out more videos in my youtube Evox09r1 I showed it to my buddies who have the other camera that everybody have, they love it specially the gauges I used in there. I recommend buying this garmin Virb elite, noise and stabilizer could be better. I hope Garmin is working on improving it. March 23, 2014
