G2 Throttle Tamer Yamaha FJR1300

G2's challenge was to improve control of over-responsive power characteristics of most fuel injected motorcycles. Their solution is the throttle tamer.

The Throttle Tamer incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening.  The “pulley”, or as they call it, “cam” pulls the throttle cable as the rider rotates the grip/tube.  By altering the conventional, circular shaped cam, a vast improvement in control is achieved.

The Throttle Tamer has a cam with a reduced radius initially, which requires a slightly farther rotation to achieve the same carburetor or throttle body opening position as a stock throttle.  This virtually eliminates the jerky “throttle snatch” especially evident in modern fuel injected street bikes.  The radius increases or “ramps up” after ½ throttle to keep overall rotation requires to reach full throttle at or near stock rotation.

Features:

  • Machined from 6061 aluminum in the USA
  • Self-lubricating Delrin bushings at each end of tube eliminate aluminum-to-aluminum contact and provide an ultra-smooth feel
  • Included cam is removable and can be replaced with alternate cams (sold separately) to fine tune control
  • Fits inside the stock throttle housing to stock cables
  • Works with all known aftermarket cruise controls
  • Slide your grip unto the Throttle Tamer

Works great
If you have a Yamaha FJR1300 with a snatchy throttle, this will help quite a bit. I also recommend looking up the throttle spring unwind mod. Together those two things greatly improved the comfort and throttle control on my 2007.

Worked as advertised
I purchased this for an 07 FJR1300. It promised to tame the jerky throttle response. It did exactly that. Took about 5 min. to install could not be happier.

G2 makes positive difference!
The G2 throttle tamer, along with a Power Commander III, were installed at the same time on my 2007 Yamaha FJR1300 to address a very sensitive throttle and surging that made low speed control extremely difficult and unpleasant (this problem is inherent with 06 & 07 year of the FJR). The throttle now works outstanding at low speed without any surging. I am able to idle around corners smoothly or gently let out the clutch without throttle and idle along smoothly at low speed. I'm not sure how much is attributed to the G2 and how much to the PCIII but the combined results are excellent.

Good product but pricy (works with Kaoko throttle lock)
I have owned a 2006 FJR1300 for over a year now and have put many thousands of miles on it. When I bought it I was appalled that they would allow a throttle that touchy. Just as the previous owner said, I got used to it but it was always frustrating and made low RPM maneuvering choppy and difficult. The reviews for this item were all good and I had a close call trying to maneuver my bike in a tight parking lot on a long ride when the bike was heavy and almost dropped it so I decided to give it a try.

Just as stated it was very easy to install. A puff of air from a compressor got my grip off then 2 allen bolts got the cuff that holds the tube off. Once the old one was off and the bar was cleaned up the new one went right back on. I run a Kaoko throttle lock (because im too cheap for cruse) and it works just fine with it.

Rode it this morning and I can already see a very clear difference in low RPM throttle response, it is much smother. I was surprised that it was this noticeable. It is a well made product with clear instructions that addresses a problem and fixes it but I still feel that it is a little too expensive for what it is.

I plan to install this on my 2007 FJR1300AE with factory heated grips, will this interfere with the operation of the heated grips?
A shopper on Nov 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The factory heated grips are glued to the stock throttle tube. It is really difficult to remove the grip without damaging it. If you can get the grip off, it will work fine with the G2 installed.
I have a 2006 FJR with the KAOKO throttle friction on it. Will the throttle friction work with this sleeve?
