G2 Throttle Tamer Triumph

G2's challenge was to improve control of over-responsive power characteristics of most fuel injected motorcycles. Their solution is the throttle tamer.

The Throttle Tamer incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening.  The “pulley”, or as they call it, “cam” pulls the throttle cable as the rider rotates the grip/tube.  By altering the conventional, circular shaped cam, a vast improvement in control is achieved.

The Throttle Tamer has a cam with a reduced radius initially, which requires a slightly farther rotation to achieve the same carburetor or throttle body opening position as a stock throttle.  This virtually eliminates the jerky “throttle snatch” especially evident in modern fuel injected street bikes.  The radius increases or “ramps up” after ½ throttle to keep overall rotation required to reach full throttle at or near stock rotation.

Features:

  • Machined from 6061 aluminum in the USA!
  • Self-lubricating Delrin bushings at each end of tube eliminate aluminum-to-aluminum contact and provide an ultra-smooth feel
  • Included cam is removable and can be replaced with alternate cams (sold separately) to fine tune control
  • Fits inside the stock throttle housing to stock cables
  • Works with all known aftermarket cruise controls
  • Slide your grip unto the Throttle Tamer

Works exactly as advertised
My 2012 Tiger 800XC is a great bike but the throttle is touchy, especially off road. This product, which was super easy to install, took out the "twichiness" but still left the throttle very responsive. Bike should come this way out of the box. I just did about 100 miles of dirt roads last week and this product made it much more enjoyable.

Tamed my triumph tiger 800 throttle, allowing me to ease on the throttle in off road applications, giving me a more controlled ride.

Smooths out the throttle as advertised
The Tiger 1050, running a stock can/tune, is notoriously snatchy at low-speed, partial throttle - hunting and surging is a common malady and there are a lot of ways to treat it.

I went with this option because it seemed both the cheapest and simplest method without messing with the ECU or anything else on the bike. Since I was replacing grips anyway, I decided to try it out.

It definitely smooths out the throttle response, though I'm slightly baffled as to how it works. I'm going to have to tighten up a bit of slack in my throttle cable, but it has definitely civilized the manners of the bike in partial-throttle, stop-n-go traffic without requiring clutch feathering.

Nice product, simple design. Wish it was a BIT cheaper, but I've learned to just stop looking at the credit card statements.

Good mod for Scrambler
Had previously installed G2 on my 02 KLR 650 and noticed better throttle response going from stopped thirst gear. Similar with my 09 Scram. In both cases throttle seems smoother. Component is better made, appears more durable. Was an easy install. Just make sure you get accel & decal cables in correct holes on throttle. Actually this is pretty easy as cable ends have different shaped swag & match to holes in throttle. A bit pricey compared to OEM but worth it IMHO.

A significant improvement in throttle response
This unit goes a long way toward moderating the abrupt on/off throttle response of the Street Triple. The G2 throttle seems to be well-made and it's a breeze to install. It takes more time to remove the stock grip than it does to install the G2 throttle tamer. The stock Triumph grip was a loose fit on the G2 tube - easily fixed with some grip glue. Great bang for the buck.

hesitant to buy, but glad I did. happier with the throttle feel on the tiger, now
It's a little easier to be smooth on the throttle now. Shifts are a little more consistent for me, especially when short shifting. Install was a little disappointing. the bars on the tiger are a little too short to fit the delrin bushing on the end of the tamer tube. I machined a custom piece to make it fit tighter. without it the tube was pretty sloppy. also, the stock grip fits loose; requiring it to be safety wired.

This product works ok but......
The G2 throttle tamer did possibly tame the the abruptness of the throttle on my 2014 street triple R a minimal amount, but the fit was not very fitting on my model. It is made of steel and has nice delron bushings on the inside of the tube for smoothness, but the placement of the bushing is wrong for my model and leaves it sloppy out on the end of the handle bar. For the price it should be better quality and come with glue or tape to attach the grip. All though I do like the idea of this product, I was not impressd

I needed something to soften the power hit of my Tiger in the dirt, especially when trying to idle along a difficult section. This is the cheapest and easiest option.

Does this product come with good install instructions?
A shopper on Feb 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it came with good instructions, but honestly, it was so simple to install that I did not need them. The most complicated thing about it is getting the grip off in the first place, I did not have to worry with cable adjustment at all. Just pay attention disengaging it. It really was easy.
I have a 2013 Triumph Explorer with heated grips, would this product still work with that setup?
Andthereyouare on Nov 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This will still work with heated grips, however I tried this product and found that the plastic insert that is suppsed to contact the handlebar end on the Tiger 800 does not. The part is the correct diameter and length but due to how triumph reduces the handlebar end to allow room for the grip heater wires the plastic insert does not contact to give you a smooth throttle action. I ended up putting my original throttle on and taking a dremel and carving the groove a bit to approximate what this does. I don't know how the explorer bar ends are made up but I would guess they are quite similar to the Tiger 800. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to put it on and check the contact. Hope this helps
Are you sure part number 921653 , G2 part number 40-4F-136-T fits a 2015 triumph Bonneville ? G2 website only goes up 2013 for the Bonneville ?
