G2 Throttle Tamer Suzuki Late Model

G2's challenge was to improve control of over-responsive power characteristics of most fuel injected motorcycles. Their solution is the throttle tamer.

The Throttle Tamer incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening.  The “pulley”, or as they call it, “cam” pulls the throttle cable as the rider rotates the grip/tube.  By altering the conventional, circular shaped cam, a vast improvement in control is achieved.

The Throttle Tamer has a cam with a reduced radius initially, which requires a slightly farther rotation to achieve the same carburetor or throttle body opening position as a stock throttle.  This virtually eliminates the jerky “throttle snatch” especially evident in modern fuel injected street bikes.  The radius increases or “ramps up” after ½ throttle to keep overall rotation required to reach full throttle at or near stock rotation.

Features:

  • Machined from 6061 aluminum in the USA!
  • Self-lubricating Delrin bushings at each end of tube eliminate aluminum-to-aluminum contact and provide an ultra-smooth feel
  • Included cam is removable and can be replaced with alternate cams (sold separately) to fine tune control
  • Fits inside the stock throttle housing to stock cables
  • Works with all known aftermarket cruise controls
  • Slide your grip unto the Throttle Tamer

should be standard equipment on all fuel injected bikes.
I install a G2 throttle tamer on all my bikes, simple the best product out there in my opinion.

Looks too good to cover with a grip!
I was hesitant to replace the stock throttle tube on my 2014 V-Strom 1000, and just intended to get used to the bike's quirks. However, the throttle was twitchy enough to make first gear almost useless, and if I hit a bump while standing up, I would unintentionally move the throttle enough to cause the bike to jerk in any gear. Enough was enough, and I ordered the G2 Throttle Tamer, which almost completely eliminated the problems. Now first gear is actually useful, and there are no more unintentional throttle inputs. The price seems like a lot of money for a throttle tube, but it's well worth it on this bike. The only problem is... it's a shame to cover up that beautiful aluminum piece with a grip!

Seems to get the job done
It's really hard to quantifiably figure out how much of a difference a part like this makes, but if memory serves correctly, this throttle tube really smoothed out the low end of my 2014 Vstrom 1000. Great construction and went on super easy.

Throttle tamer.
Installed on a 2014 vstrom 650, helped to reduce jerkiness when up and downshifting., a lot.

Works a treat
I have the 2014 V-Strom 1000 and with the stock throttle it really has kick. It's not bad on the highway but it's really a hassle in city traffic. The G2 throttle Tame did just what it's name says - i teamed the beast and now the throttle is smooth all the way. Installation couldn't have been easier. Took all of 10 minutes and most of that was getting the stock grip off the old throttle.3

Expensive, but worth it!
The G2 Throttle Tamer made my 2014 V-Strom 1000 into a bike that is completely manageable at parking-lot speeds. The stock, twitchy throttle is a thing of the past, and I can happily lug the bike around at a walking pace. That was practically impossible with the stock throttle tube. I don't notice any difference in the throttle at greater engine speeds, which is a good thing. It maintains the stock tube's quarter-turn to full throttle.

Good product, not perfect.
The first thing the instructions say is the throttle tube HAS to be installed by a factory trained tech. They then go on to direct the instructions toward a lay person, not consistent. If you have some mechanical skills and patience you can install this. The problem I had was that the throttle tube was too wide for the bars. I had to grind off about a 16th of an inch so the bar end wouldn't prevent the tube from turning. Pretty big flaw in my book. Another issue is re-using the stock V-Strom 650 grip. It is a proprietary part made only for their tube. By pulling it off I stretched it out pretty good. Several wraps of double face tape and hairspray hopefully will do the trick otherwise it's aftermarket grips for me. The test ride felt good but the effects are subtle. Time will tell.

I have a 2015 DL650. I have no problem with the throttle but like the thought of a progressive throttle response so I'm gonna give the G2 a try.

Will be installing heated grips on my bike and needed a throttle tube that didn't have raised ridges. The fact that this could also help to reduce the need to continuously use the clutch when riding rough terrain was an added bonus.
