Didn't last 30 minutes
Bought these pants last year so that I'd be prepared on the few days that I get caught commuting in the rain in sunny Phoenix, AZ.

Today was that day. So I happily put the pants on and road 30 minutes to work in mild-moderate rain.

Got to work and was all wet in the crotch. Disappointing! Called Frogg Toggs and was told "these are fabric and not waterproof - only water repellant and not designed for sitting in pool of water for prolonged time". What? Really? Darn... in the trash they went... Don't waste your time or money on these for riding. They won't do you any good.

priced right
The best thing I can say about these pants is that they don't cost much. Of course, you get what you pay for. The material is almost like wax coated paper... seems like they are disposable. The "reach thru" pockets on the sides close with a simple plastic snap... so it seems likely water will get in there. They also fit like a potato sack.

They are cheap... I throw them in my bags and if it rains I throw 'em on.... but if I know I'll be hitting rain I wear my high end pants with a water proof liner... which are pricey... so there you have it... the two extremes. If you are looking for cheap, emergency rain protection... these fit the bill. If you want to be completely dry and have a high quality product... look elsewhere.

not a good rain gear product
I bought this product for my first long mile trip before I really thought I liked long distance riding.

the pros:
cheap in price
great over layer to help on cold days to keep the wind out
easy to put on and take off

the cons:
mostly water repellant
you will be soaked in actual rain (anything more than a sprinkle) especially in seat and ankles
a little bulky when packing

bottom line: spend a little more to get nylon or something more waterproof.

Product fail
This works great to keep the wind off your legs but that is about it. After 10 minutes into a 30 minute ride home my crotch and leg were soaked. The pockets are also a weak spot because the snaps come undone very easily allowing rain/water to get into the pants a soak your hips/thighs.

Excellent product
I'm 5'9" and the medium pants fit well even over my uniform. I love the reach thru pockets. Very helpful. The legs have a zip up side too which makes it easy to put on over your existing clothes and shoes. Very breathable and keeps the rain out for sure. Excellent product, definitely recommend.

Good Value Rain Wear
This will basically be a mirrored review that I put out there for the rain jacket.

I would say Frogg Toggs offers good value in rain wear. I’ve only used the jacket/pant set a couple of times but would say they did the job and performed as expected.

Something to note, for storage, you can fold this gear but I don’t think it necessarily compresses well or packs tight. If you’re looking for compact, you probably should consider looking toward another product.

More breathable than a polyurethane suit, but nowhere near gore tex
Invest in gore tex or something more technical than this if you have the means or necessity. For my tour, I picked these up to go over my regular wear gear. They go over boots easily enough with ample length side zips, pack small (1 frogg togg stuff sack will accommodate top and bottom), and will breathe ok. They kept the water out which is the most important thing.

Great product, well made, right features
These keep the water out while still being breathable and comfortable. One tip - throw a plastic shopping bag over you boot before sliding your leg through, it could avoid tearing the material if any part of your boot gets caught or snagged on the inside of the pant.

Did the job
Great protection for the price. They run a bit long, but I guess that's much better than being too short. Rode for 6 hours in the rain and didn't get wet at all.

My existing rainproof pants have started to leak, I have greatly enjoyed my FroggToggs jacket, and the price was very good.

Keep the pants dry on the morning ride into work.
EDIT 4/19/2015: They do work except at the pocket slits, driving rain penetrates the openings.
Zilly on Jul 13, 2014
Attractive price, first and foremost. I like that all Frogg Toggs products are sold individually instead of as a set; for instance, if you rip the liner of the pants then you can just replace those instead of pants AND jacket. There is a passthrough to access your pants pockets, which is a nice touch.

Is this product actually waterproof or water resistant? Also, Should I size up to fit over other gear or is it sized to do that already?
Erie C on Jul 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Highly water resistant. Waterproof is not realistic for overpants, because of fit, wind, capillary action. The material will not soak through. If you sit down on a wet seat, you will not have a wet tush.
Sized to fit over clothes. No need to size up.
What is the difference between this and the bull frog besides the pass-through pockets?
Erie C on Jul 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: its a little different material and it's reflective on parts where the bull frog isnt.
