The R4 features a state of the art hi-tensile closed cell PU core design that absorbs, deflects and disperses the energy from an impact across the body. Additionally, the R4 features a radically new rear axial load absorber, or "Tail" design that aims to re-direct impact energy across the upper back rather than directly into the spine. The R4 has an adjustable rear strut offering 2 positions that provides 10 degrees and 13mm of torso width adjustability. The R4 also comes with a plush bio-foam liner and adjustable harness system for that perfect fit.

A must have item for any BMX racer
This works as well as any of the $200+ comparables - and it is the only one that is in this price category making for a simple decision.

for the money this is a stone cold winner
i ride single track woods etc.. I never cared about gear except the basics boots helmet etc..I was coming down a typical new england hill all rocks.lol I whiskey throttled it and hit my head so hard on a rock i saw stars. I decided right then to get more safety gear. I did not need a full mx set up so i tried this neck brace and for the money it is perfect. light easy on off and works well with the chest protector i bought. i thought i would hate all this gear but 10 mins on the trail and i did not even notice i had it on. i have been down a couple of times with it i don't know if it worked but i can say i got up no worse for the wear.

Does not stay in place for MX. Among other problems.
The pading held down by velcro is already coming unglued. One week old.
With chin all the way down, chin contacts the brace where the foam and plastic meet. Foam compresses and chin can be cut by the now exposed plastic edge. That's just standing still and tilting my head forward. Hate to think how split open your chin would get in a hard "flat landing" situation. The foam needs to wrap around the plastic just a bit more in this area.
Adjusted all the way down in the back and still can not look up far enough. End up riding with back straight up and down in order to look up and forward enough. They need to dish the back just a bit, like many other products.
The hold down straps start around your mid section but after half a lap they end up in your arm pits. Now brace is flopping around all over the place. Wish they where longer and went down to waist or incorporated into a kidney belt so it stays put. I did one lap with this thing and couldn't wait to get it off ! No adjustment I did would keep it in place.
Finally, I contacted EVS and politely let them know my concerns. They do not even have the common courtesy to respond. NEVER AGAIN will I buy an EVS product when they don't even show an interest in customer feedback and the possibility to make thier product better.
Wish I had my money back.
