Dainese Manis T Back Protector

This innovative back protector features a highly advanced design and is specifically intended for use on the track. The design differs from the traditional concept and sets new standards of comfort. Its innovative manufacturing solution provides much more freedom of movement than its predecessors and allows the protector to faithfully replicate all the forms that the spine takes during a race. The protector can increase or decrease in length to adapt to the rider's body in different positions. It can also curve and flex sideways, again, to follow the shape of the body. The composite sandwich is the result of 30 years experience in designing back protectors. The sandwich consists of articulated external plates made from polypropylene mated to Crash absorb material. An outer layer of material provides the comfort factor and ensures that the protector matches the shape of the spine. The protector features large perforations and minimal contact points with the body to minimise any discomfort from heat while its light weight enhances the revolutionary design of the system. Thanks to a thin adjustable lumbar strap, the protector can be worn under leathers without pressing against the abdomen.

Protection:

  • Back protector certified to CE - Cat. II - EN 1621.2/2003 (Level 2)
  • Articulated external plates with controlled mobility, made of polypropylene with perforated and corrugated structure
  • Inner core in perforated Crash absorb
  • Localized comfort padding

Ergonomics and Comfort:

  • Adjustable lumbar strip
  • Back protector with 4 degrees of freedom:
    • Longitudinal stretch
    • Longitudinal bending
    • Torsion
    • Lateral bending controlled by special tensioners
  • External perforated plates
  • Crash absorb perforated absorption material
  • Reduced contact area
  • Adjustable lumbar strip

Sizing:

Sizing is dependent on both torso length and waist circumference. Height is measured from your shoulders to your natural waist, which will determine which Type is necessary. Waist circumference is measured at the hourglass of your torso, (circumference measured at your belly button).

Shoulder to waist length determines Type:

  • Type 55  15.75"-17.75" (40cm - 45cm)
  • Type 59  16.9"-18.9" (43cm-48cm)

Waist circumference determines Size:

  • Size SM  31"-33.5" (79-85cm)
  • Size MD  33.5"-35.8" (85-91cm)
  • Size LG  35.8"-38.2" (91-97cm)
  • Size XL  38.2"-40.5"(97-103cm)

Note: Depending on size, Back Protector will have more or fewer segments than image shown.

They Fixed It!
I was very critical of the original Manis with the shoulder straps, especially with regards to use under a race suit. The practicalities of the design were terrible. The plates would snag the race suit collar making it near impossible to put on without assistance and the shoulder and chest straps also added bulk, albeit only a little, to the chest area in an already tight spot.

Now, with the removal of the shoulder straps I can get the Manis protection without the frustration. It is easily slipped, low, into a suit just before you pull it over your shoulders then you can slide it into position and fasten the velcro belt, zip up the suit and you are done. No snagging and no clips and buckles to get in the way.

The only thing I would say is that for use with, say, a textile touring two piece the strapped version is required as there probably won't be enough tension in the jacket to keep the strapless T version in place. I would like to have seen a version of the Manis with removable shoulder straps so I could buy one solution and adapt it to the circumstances. Not sure if they ever changed the original Manis to do this but it would be a great all-round solution.

Awesome back protector for track
I really love this back protector for the track. The T model comes without the chest straps, and works well with less bulk and fuss. The waist holds it in place as you get the suit on, then the suit holds it in place very well and you forget it is there when you are riding. It really moves with your body, it stretches, rotates and twists very effectively. It does flow some air with the holes, and the material keeps your back comfortable as possible. Also this is CE 2 and multiple use. Add to all that that it's just really cool how it works. What's not to like? Maybe the price, but you get what you pay for. I've used the less expensive Tryonic See+, and this is definitely worth the premium for me. Highly recommended!

Use with Dainese Team Suit.

Hi guys,

Question;

how the heck does this stay on?

Explaining from my point of view. (below)

the pictures shows only one strap. ( that doesn't look very appealing, or sturdy to hold against your body.) even if it fits under a jacket....i don't think it would hold in place.

can someone clarify this?

thanks

BEST ANSWER: It is worn under a one-piece suit where the snug fit keeps it in place. The Manis with the shoulder strap would be too bulky to fit in a racing suit (but would fit well with a two-piece leather/fabric jacket).
Hi, I'm having a difficulties with the Manis Back Protector with the shoulder straps when using it wit my race suits (Dainese Laguna Seca 1pc). I'm not sure how these designs without the shoulder straps will help me in putting the suit on without the plates getting stuck on the suits inner liner. It's pretty much the same design. Anyone can shed me some light? One of the reviewer mentioned these design without steals will solve the issue, can you show step by step of putting it on a race suit? Thanks

is it suitable for a two-piece race suit? I have Dainese Aerster 2-p suit

Would this fit into the back protector insert in Dainese jackets? The upper half looks to be the same as the Manis G.

Thanks,
Rob.
