Dainese Air-Frame Women's Textile Jacket

The Dainese Air-Frame Women's Textile Jacket opens up hot weather riding to those who still want to stay protected without suffering in a leather sweatbox. The Boomerang and Quick Dry chassis holds large mesh panels that keep air moving through the jacket while also providing abrasion resistance. Removable composite elbow and shoulder protectors boost the jackets level of safety by increase both impact and abrasion resistance in key areas. A pocket for a G1 or G2 back protector allows you to add CE level 1 or 2 back protection for a complete protection package and an included wind-breaker liner turns off the airflow if the temperature dips.

Great armor, stylish jacket
Purchased this jacket at the beginning of the summer for my MSF course, and promptly spent two 8-hour, 90+ degree days sitting on a blacktop parking lot, idling my bike. We rarely got out of 1st gear, and though I was pretty sweaty, I have to say that this jacket is very well ventilated -- I had the liner out, and once we got moving even a little bit, I soon cooled off thanks to those mesh panels.

On the flip side, I just spent today on a ride and though it's late November, the jacket (with liner) did okay. (I layered up, and once the sun went down put on a larger wind-breaker over the jacket, but for the most part it held its own on a ~50 degree day.)

Jacket feels very well-constructed -- snaps are all secure (even a little difficult to open!), zippers are sturdy. Thanks to two snap positions, I can cinch the waist, bicep and forearm down, and the armor stays right in place, so comfortable that I don't even notice it. The armor itself is great stuff -- no soft, flimsy-feeling foam here -- the outer later is pretty solid, and it fits my forearms perfectly, as do the shoulder pieces (which wrap around to the back as well).

I also purchased the Dianese back armor insert, and, while it takes a little getting used to, I feel comfortable and confident in its ability to protect.

The only grip I have about the jacket has to do with the removable windproof liner -- it snaps into the jacket cuff in an awkward position, and the loops holding the snap in feel just a little flimsy. We'll see how it holds up long-term.

For style, I just don't think this jacket can be beat. I purchased the red & black, and it is beautiful! I'm a rather petite woman (5'4", about 120 lbs), and in contrast to many other jackets which felt baggy and "okay", when I tried on this one I just couldn't bring myself to put it back on the rack. Saving up my money for other Dianese purchases...the Italians just know what is up.

Excellent Summer Jacket Especially for Small, Short Women
SIZING
I purchased a size 40. My measurements: upper chest 32", bust 33.5", waist 25", height 63". Although the size chart says upper chest is 29.9-31.5 and bust is 31.5-33.1, these must run slightly large because the jacket fits me very comfortably. In fact, without the liner, I am able to wear a Gerbing jacket liner underneath comfortably as well (with the arm snaps set to the looser ones). Generally I wear all the snaps in the more fitted/tighter mode. The length of my arm from the armpit to the sleeve is about 20" and fits comfortably (even though the recommended size chart range is 20.5-21.3). This jacket (and Dainese in general) is excellent for small, short women.

TEMPERATURE
I run colder than most people, and have low heat tolerance.

Usable range seems to be mid-60s to low-100s for me on the freeway.

With the liner in, low 60s was tough even with layers underneath; mid-60s required Smartwool mid-weight long-sleeved shirt plus Marmot Variant jacket all over a basic shirt underneath to achieve comfort; high 60s through 70s was comfortable, with just one shirt underneath.

Low 80s through 100s without liner offered great airflow to armpits particularly. Unfortunately, I wear a backpack for commuting, so my back was really sweaty with my tank top drenched underneath. Occasionally, depending on how my torso was positioned/arched, space was created between the jacket and the backpack, and I could tell that if I don't wear the backpack, airflow would be fabulous.

OTHER
Without the liner, the shoulder pads feel a bit scratchy when putting the jacket on, and I'm mildly not thrilled with the exposed nature of the pads.

The liner is somewhat a pain to put back in, particularly lining up and snapping in the sleeve snaps when I'm in a hurry. It is super thin and light for carrying in my backpack. In fact, folded up it can fit in the outside hand pockets or in the inner jacket (not liner) pocket.

The Dainese Wave G1 back protector is noticeable but comfortable.

I appreciate the plethora of adjustable snaps (sleeves, arms, neck, waist), and the red piece of fabric that lines the top of the inner jacket pocket for ease of locating.

As can be expected from a light-weight mesh summer jacket, the protection feels minimal for the freeway.

Dainese has great attention to detail.

I wear this jacket with the Dainese Women's New Air Drake Textile pants.

I'm in love with this jacket!
I got this jacket in black/red. I live in LA and we're having a hot spell right now so I was specifically looking for something with great air flow. I found it in this jacket! Without the liner, the air flow is amazing and keeps me cool even on 95+ degree days. The pads are all in the right place. Contrary to some other reviewers, I don't find the shoulder armor annoying at all even without the liner. They stay put just fine once the jacket is on. The fit is amazing. They style is the best available in my opinion. You can't go wrong with this jacket.

I'm 5'7" and 160 lbs with an athletic build. I ordered size 46 and it fits great. It's form-fitting but still has plenty of room for a hoodie when it cools down.

Supergirl.
Bought one of these beauties for my beautiful wife of 24 years. She's so sexy when she puts it on…makes her look like Supergirl. In all seriousness, she loves the red accents, the fit, and the quality of construction. I also added a Dainese Back Protector.

Size: Despite the video, which shows a 5'10" gal with my wife's build wearing a size 40, I ordered my bride a size 46. Perfect fit. For reference, my better-half is 5'10.5", 122 lbs, with long arms and a smile that still melts my heart…

Great product.

Great overall jacket
I bought this for my wife, so this is somewhat second hand information from asking her about it.

She's only found one negative about it, which is that the shoulder pads aren't fixed in place very well. Rather than a "pocket," they're sort of strapped onto the fabric and shift around a bit. Once she's arranged herself after putting it on, it's fine, but annoying that she has to do that each time.

It looks great on her - the right amount of snugness without feeling too tight and enough "room" without looking like an oversized smock. Manufacturing quality seems solid, but I can't comment on durability since she's only owned it for a week.

Awesome airflow, classic look, dash of color
Love this jacket. I am 5'7 140 lbs and the 48 fits comfortably with just enough room to add an extra layer. The airflow is great, but so far I have not yet needed to remove the internal windbreaker. It feels so lightweight, yet I feel protected with the included armor. Also purchased the Alpinestars bionic air back protector that fits perfectly, and the Dainese New Drake Textile pants (size 44) that easily attach to the jacket.
Only wish there were reflective strips on the back.

Nice! Great option for hot weather.
This is a jacket with enough ventilation for a hot day (90+, so far), with armor that manages to be unobtrusive, and a very understated, classy design.

Sizing... I am 5'7" and wear a US size 4 or 6, depending on the designer/cut. The 46 fits perfectly--right length, armor sits in the right places, and if I want it a little tighter, snaps at the waist, wrist, and elbow make that possible.

I ordered the Air G Level 2 back protector, as well--that creates a little bit of a turtle shell look, but if you don't mind letting people know that you value your spine, it's not a big deal. :)

Nice work, Dainese... am definitely going to order the Drake Air pants next.

Perfect for warmer days!!
I received this jacket yesterday in the mail and I'm really happy with it! I took a ride in hot weather and the the ventilation was great! The fit is perfect; I'm 5'9'', 125lbs, and the arms were long enough (my biggest problem with motorcycle jackets). I didn't try it with the liner, it is really thin though, not sure about how much time it's going to last. The only thing I dislike about Dainese women's jackets, and I don't know if it's the same with the men's, is that the shoulder protections are removable with a velcro. Maybe its useful if you have to change them but otherwise they're always moving. Each time I put the jacket on I have to replace the shoulders....But anyways overall it's a really nice jacket, perfect for warm weather, great style, really comfy and awesome look!

Excellent!
Bought this on impulse, I stopped in to buy just a pair of dianese pants, well I saw the jacket in red and fell in love with it. I fit into a 42 due to my back protector. I am 5'5'' and 125 pounds and this fits in all the right spots. Zips up perfectly with the dianese pants.

The air flow on this jacket is amazing. Kept me from sweating and the liner is fantastic. Not to mention the design looks SHARP, There is built in shoulder and elbow protection which covers essential joints very well. I am so happy with this jacket, my movement is no limited.

LOVE this jacket!
I'm very petite and was worried about finding a jacket that fit properly and that also looked stylish. I LOVE this jacket. It fits like a glove and I get many compliments on it. It's very comfortable and durable, the protection in the shoulders and elbows is really great. I would definitely recommend to others.

The only issue I had is that I ordered it and it had a faulty zipper - I exchanged it for a new one and the new one is great. It was just annoying that I had to pay to ship it back for an issue that wasn't my fault. Other than that, great service and great jacket.

My wife's 10+ year old ICON jacket is on its last legs, and too hot for the warm temperatures here in South FL. Plus, it's Christmas. So she's got that going for her. Or coming to her, depending on your perspective. Which is nice, either way.

Bought the Dainese Air Frame Textile Jacket and would like to confirm how to clean it. There are no "care instructions" or label sewn on the jacket. So I'm assuming dry clean would be the most appropriate and safest option, right? Kindly advise. Cheers.
A shopper on Nov 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: A Shopper,
Hello from sunny FL. I bought this jacket for my wonderful wife of 25 years, and she absolutely loves it.

We have a front-loading washing machine...if you're not familiar with those models, they're MUCH easier/gentler on clothing than the typical top-loading washers with the agitator in the middle beating the ever-loving snot out of your clothing.

That said, after dutifully removing all the padding and armor, I wash all my family Dainese motorcycle jackets in the aforementioned washing machine, and then air-dry them. Great results. All the road grime, bugs, and sweat are gone, and the jackets look good as new.

If you're stuck with a top-loading machine, then I'd recommend hand-washing your jacket vs. dry cleaning. Because bugs. And grime.

Cheers, and hope this helped.
How do you measure the chest to get the right size? I've watched the "How to Measure" video but there is nothing about women's sizing. My measurement according to that video, "at the apex", yields a large but I wear a small to medium in everything I own. I'm obviously doing something wrong.
A shopper on Apr 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I measured my upper chest right underneath the armpits but above the bust for the chest measurement. I'm 32" chest, 33.5-34" bust. The size chart says the size 40 fits 29.9-31.5" so that I should wear a size 42 but I ended up getting the size 40 and they are comfortable, not tight. Also, the chart says 40 fits 31.5-33.1" bust so that I again should get size 42, but again the size 40 fits just fine. Strangely, I can even fit my Gerbing heated jacket liner underneath comfortably!
Below what temperature would this be too cool (with the lining in) for someone who isn't comfortable when cold?
Rich on Mar 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: mid-60s start becoming uncomfortable, must wear something like a mid-weight Smartwool women's base layer and a Marmot women's Variant jacket all on top of a basic shirt on freeway. Low 60s pretty unbearable on freeway with a Gerbing heated jacket liner (while unplugged) > 15 miles. With just a shirt (and lining in) underneath, I can only do high 60s. I get very cold, uncomfortable, and distracted by cold very easily and well before others.
How abrasion resistant is the material used in this jacket? Has it passed any standards?
A shopper on Aug 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Textiles do what they are designed to do protect you in case of a get off and depending on type may require replacing with new one. The jacket has armor in all the necessary places and allows airflow thru mesh for hot days. I love this jacket in the summer!
I love this jacket. However, I have not been able to find a back protector that I love in it. I have a size 44 jacket and so far the Dainese Wave G1 nor the Forcefield BackPad Insert Pro for Dainese have fit my back very well. What do you use?
A shopper on May 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have a 42 size and use the same back protector as you do and it works works well.
