Answer: 
The Chase Harper GR2 Dual Sport Saddlebags are designed to be used without the need for a bracket or side-case rack. It has a rubberized non-slip backing that helps keep it secure and protects your bike's finish. However, every bike is different and you must use your best judgment whether or not having a packed textile saddlebag resting against the side of your bike is a good idea. Some bikes, for example, may have exposed exhaust canisters or mid-pipes and may require some structure to keep the bag or body panels from making contact with the hot metal.

These particular bags are not waterproof. Rain covers are available at the manufacturer's website (http://www.chaseharper.com) for $29.95.
