Ballistic Performance 12 Cell EVO2 Battery

The 12 Cell EVO2 and EVO2L models are the work horse of the Ballistic line up. This is the battery you need for your built 1000cc and up four cylinder or your big cruiser. This battery puts out as much power as some of the biggest lead acid batteries on the market but weighs as much as 11lbs lighter! Typical applications include metric-cruisers, small displacement Harley’s, sport-touring bikes, and large sport bikes. A YTX20-BS weighs 14.1lbs while the Ballistic 12 Cell weighs 2.5lbs. That’s a 11.6 lbs saving for less than $190 dollars! Ballistic also offers a EVO2 “L” version with a left side negative terminal to be used as a replacement for the YTX20L-BS.

powerful and very light, but don't let it discharge There's not much to say about these things. Look, it's light. If you want to drop serious lbs. for very little money per pound (relative to the motorcycle world anyway) than you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value. It also drives my starter quite a bit faster than the stock battery - almost seems to crank twice as fast. However, be aware that you are not supposed to let it discharge below 30% (as shown in the warranty). Now, I'm not sure how you're supposed to know the charge state. You probably need to get a maintenance charger that's designed for LiPo batteries. I had a Motocentric MC750 on it and it discharged anyway(!). I'm sure it was the charger's fault so I've since purchased this awesome battery status device, Battery Tender 081-0157 that should help. Be aware of this or any other parasitic voltage drain. Having said that and the main reason why I wanted to post this review is that I'm happy and grateful for their customer service. Since it did discharge completely they technically didn't have to honor the warranty but they did. It also failed literally a week after the first year of the warranty was up but they gave me a full replacement anyway. Now THAT is the kind of customer service you hope for. In short, it's light and powerful but don't let it discharge too much. January 5, 2016
This is a great fit to replace any battery Product was very easy to install and fit perfectly in the tray made for the oem battery. Stated the bike right up straight out of the box. Will buy this replace every battery from here on out December 14, 2015
Never be left stranded by a dead battery Battery keeps charge for months. Enough cca to turn over the biggest of V Twins. My power hungry 1982 XV750J Virago turns over every time! October 5, 2015
Great lightweight battery replacement I went for the Ballistic Performance 8 cell after researching a bunch on the internets... so far so good! It's a great battery for the price - which isn't that much more than OEM. The unit itself is much smaller and lighter than stock, which is great for a sportbike (R6). Cranking power is great so far, cold or warm starts. Hopefully it lasts as advertised. September 22, 2015
Simple drop-in replacement This was my first time swapping out a lead-acid battery for a Li-ion and was very pleased. I was replacing a weak battery and this unit is about 10lbs lighter than the old one as well as being about 1/3 smaller. You may need to pack the new battery with foam or some other material to keep it from rattling around in your battery holder. September 8, 2015

Not great in the cold I've had one of these in my VFR800A for a couple of years now. I've used LiFe technology in other applications and am pretty familiar with its strengths and weaknesses, and I commute to work on my bike all year round. Very reliable battery, cells have maintained their balance, and battery provides good cranking *IF* the temperature is 50F or above. Below that, cranking power goes down quickly to the point of resetting the clock and trip odometers before the motor will start (if it starts). I've actually put a heating pad in the battery box to pre-heat it on cold days using an external USB booster, which helps a lot. I'd probably replace it with a 12-cell model next time for a little bigger capacity margin. Lead battery costs have gone up, so this is still a win in my opinion due to improved reliability and lifetime. March 12, 2015
The battery I've been waiting for. After much research, and because I never liked the OEM batteries on my 2009 Honda CBR1000RR, I purchased this. The original battery, as well as a replacement a few years later, always felt like the battery was weak, no matter what. I believe that Honda, in an effort to eliminated as much weight from the bike as possible, just installed a battery too small for this motorcycle. And the area allowed for it is extremely small as well. This EVO2 make a world of difference. It always starts with plenty of juice. It performs as advertised. Now, hopefully it will last a long time. February 22, 2015
