Arai XD-4 / XD-3 Pinlock Lens Insert
Significantly Cut Down on Fogging
I just purchased my Pinlock clear lens insert for my Arai XD4 helmet. I also had to purchase an integrated visor with the Pinlock pins already installed in visor.
Although, I don't have extensive miles in the rain, my initial impression of the primary feature ( anti fogging ) is very good. I had a chance to dawn my helmet on during 56 degree drizzle. No fogging. I had to breath like a running at end of marathon to get it to fog slightly. Also no fogging during a recent 140 mile ride in cool 60 degree overcast day with some occasional rain drops. My new Pinlock integrated Arai XD4 visor was snapped shut most of ride. Something I could not do with m stock Arai visor.
I was surprised how clear the view looks through the visor with both the Pinlock insert and visor in my view. Just make sure everything is clean before you install the Pinlock insert lens.
Installation: as others have noted you will initially feel the Pinlock lens is too long for the steep curvature of the Arai XD4. You have to turn the Pinlock pins with a screwdriver. Turn slowly. This will seat the Pinkock lens 90% flat. Then use a sharp exact knife to gently scrape a micron off the Pinlock lens tabs. Just that tiny amount help me seat the Pinlock lens flat. As others have noted, you must seat the gasket completely for the anti fogging feature to work.
I have had poor experience with the stock Arai setup. Two major issues riding in the rain with stock Arai have been fogging and rain getting inside of visor. I thin the rain is getting in because I have to crack the visor for ventilation. I also think the air is pushing rain in from bottom of helmet. So, I have to wear a big scarf or balaclava. I am hoping my Pinlock modification will improve on these problems.

Clear your vision
The pinlock system is a key part of good motorcycle vision, especially in the rain and wind when keeping your visor open is not an option.
Pinlock works. Regardless of outside conditions, the inside of your visor remains clean and clear. If you want, you can even get pinlocks in various tints, so you won't have to wear sunglasses in addition.
Search for "pinlock" on the Internet, and you'll find a host of information and reviews. All of them are positive. This small part of your helmet is something you should go out and get today.

Works perfectly when installed correctly
IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions carefully when installing and bend the face shield slightly outward when inserting.
Had to buy a second; like many other reviewers, I thought the pinlock insert did not fit correctly. I tried to just slide my first insert in without reading the instructions. After frustratingly forcing it into place, it worked for a while but eventually became too warped, did not seal properly, and fogged up.
Figured something was wrong and went ahead and bought a second. This time I followed the instructions step by step and installed it with ease. Now it works perfectly.
For riding in colder climates a pinlock insert is almost necessary. Living up here in Washington I used to have no visibility with my XD-4 unless I cracked open the shield with all vents open or rode without it, which is no fun in the rain.

Works as advertised
I used the insert on a 10 day trip in Scotland. Oddly enough it only drizzled a few minutes the entire time. Regardless, the insert prevented major fogging in the damp, cold and foggy mornings each day. My wife did not have an insert and she was fogging regularly.

Bought this item for a trip across country in the spring to try and keep from having to deal with fogging on my XD-4. Hit rain, snow, and near freezing temperatures with no fogging issues. Even tried to get it to fog unsuccessfully at a couple times just to see it I could. Expensive but cured my fogging issues. Would be better if it was a little easier to remove and install so you could easily swap it out with other tints.

Purchased the pinlock insert along with a new Arai XD4 pinlock face shield. The insert does not fit properly on the sheild to form the necessary gap between the shield and the lens insert. The insert pushes itself against the sheild in several places even with the pins adjusted to their most open position. For a proper fit only the inserts gasket should make contact with the face sheild. Useless!!!
Have not had this problem with previous pinlock systems on Shoei helmets.

Even with max adjustment didnt fit too well into visor
On time delivery, looks great, good quality product, just it doesn't fit too well into the visor. Have ordered a second pair of visor and pinlock - same issue, even with max adjustment the fit is not good especially for a product of this price

XD-4 pinlock insert
The shape of the XD-4 shield doesn't readily lend itself to a pinlock insert; however it does work after a fashion. I primarily changed shields to the pinlock version so I could have a tinted shield. Still it does help with fogging but with the brow vents and chin vent open the shield has only fogged when stopped in cool weather. The shape of the shield does let the pinlock insert touch the outside shield and from outside the helmet the pinlock insert looks like a really bad tint job on car windows; that splotchy look. It doesn't affect rider vision so I just ignore it.
