Arai XD-4 Flare Helmet

The Arai XD4 is world renowned for being the one of the best ADV touring helmets on the market and one of the few that achieves a Snell safety rating. The XD4 incorporates all of the same great qualities found in Arai's other helmets including the comfort liner and cheek pads that feature 5mm peel-away pads that allow riders to tailor the fit. The shell of the XD4 has also been aerodynamically tuned and, in concert with the removable floating peak visor, funnels air into the redesigned vents, improving overall ventilation and mitigating buffeting at speed.

The XD-4 is the helmet of choice for many hardcore ADV enthusiasts and sets an industry standard for comfort, quality and safety.

Features:

  • Comfort headliner, with micro fitting 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Fully removable/replaceable/washable interior
  • Dry-Cool technology keeps you dry and cool for greater comfort
  • FCS (Facial Contour Support) cheek pad design, also with a 5mm peel away micro fit feature
  • Improved shell shape for better aerodynamic stability at higher street speeds
  • Exhaust ports added to the top diffuser vents
  • Chin vent with more intake ports
  • Larger sculpted side cowl vents improve ventilation
  • Snell M2015 approved

Overpriced, overrated greenhouse. Not ready out of the box. Fit is poor. Fogs badly. First of all, no helmet at this price should fog up. Ever. Arai were apparently so confident in their venting scheme, they decided to skip any sort of fog control, which you wouldn't know from the price tag. This thing fogs badly on a hot summer ride with all of the vents open. Oh and you can get a Pinlock to try to fix it, but it's going to cost you over $80 for a whole new shield and the insert. Why couldn't the included shield be at least Pinlock ready? Or, for that matter, why couldn't Arai at least include the breath guard instead of charging an extra $9 for it? This thing has a lot of vents. And in my experience, you will spend a lot of time distracted, toggling them open and closed looking for some combination that will clear the shield. The helmet may be Snell safety rated, but is it really safe to be fumbling for clear vision? I normally ride my dual sport with an MX helmet and goggles, but I'm getting set for a multi-day trip and wanted something that could seal out rain if necessary. I can only imagine how useless this helmet is in the rain though, as it would either fog completely or have to be run with the shield cracked open, defeating the purpose. With the shield closed, it creates a humid stuffy environment even at full venting. The helmet also creates a pressure point on my forehead, so it is probably an overly round fit. Save your money, get something half the price and twice as functional. August 20, 2016
Light, comfortable, stylish - and loud and foggy Great fit on my oval-ish cranium. The pads are really nice and the cheek fit is perfect. Felt tight at first but after worn in feels perfect. Pads are easily removed for cleaning. Love the orange color scheme. The visor is nice for slower speed/off-road riding, but I recommend removing it if any highway riding is foreseen. It's a sail of sorts and will catch a lot of wind at speed, pulling your head backward when looking straight or sideways if looking left or right. Luckily the visor is easily removed and reinstalled. When I removed it the first time, however, I noticed the little white ring on one visor pivot had been cracked in half. Luckily I could hold it in place to install the plastic bolt, but I'm not sure why it was cracked as it's not been dropped nor in an accident. The shield gives a wide field of view and lifts and drops nicely. However, this thing fogs up very easily. For this sort of money, I'd expect that to be addressed and is my primary complaint. All in all a very good helmet, though, and I'm mostly happy with it. Recommended as long as you can deal with the slight down sides. August 16, 2016
let the breeze blow!! Fit is great, adjustable cheek pads are awesome with the shield closed still feel great air flow vents are east to work even with my gauntlets on, installed dark smoke shield (sold separately) but so worth it sun isn't a factor between the visor and the dark shield all in all great buy fully satisfied. ride on!!!!!!! "Best helmet in the ADV category" Arai fit and finish is very high quality (glad i went with the frost black). it is very light and comfortable. i like how quiet it is at speed and no lift or wind buffeting ventilation and exhaust ports works very well and of coarse the safety features and ratings completely justify the expense for my noggin.I ride super moto ,ADV, and dual sport so i use mx helmets as well but for street riding i love this helmet would not hesitate to use it for moderate dirt/ dual sport and exclusively for ADV riding .I just prefer goggles when it gets rowdy in the dirt is all. so in closing "If you have the means i highly recommend one" August 10, 2016
Arai XD 4 I've owned an Arai XD3, a Shoei Hornet, a Nexx XD1, and now this XD4. I can confidently say that Arai improved the XD model substantially. The XD3 was comfortable, but I used to get "highway-whip" back and forth and looking over your shoulder above 40mph took some getting used to. The wind would catch the beak and want to further twist your head. The Shoei was also comfortable but pretty loud. This XD4 vents like a champ, but the vents are arranged so intelligently that it doesn't force wind across your eyeballs like the XD3 used to. This XD4 is also much quieter than it's predecessor. The Nexx XD1 absolutely crushed my face and is massive. I looked like a bobble-head. The XD4's field of vision is expansive. The visor provides perfect optical quality, no distortion, and it's great at preventing fogging. I live in NC, where the humidity is insane. The XD4 wouldn't hold a lens fog for even a second. The visor also clicks into place satisfyingly in the closed position. I think my biggest concern with this helmet is that, supposedly, even a drop from handlbar height can render the Snell rating null and void. So if you buy this helmet just take care of it and it will take care of you. Best dual-sport helmet I've owned, without a doubt. Riding a KTM 990 Adventure with touring windscreen. August 9, 2016
Great Helmet - Personal size/fit issue The Arai XD-4 is a great adventure helmet. However, like any helmet, correct fit is the name of the game. In my case, I think i'm one of those few where Arai shape may not be the best fit. I usually use Shoei in LARGE and it fits perfect but I wanted to try the Arai XD4 instead as it is much lighter than its Shoei counterpart. After measuring my head circunsference as per sizing chart, I ordered my Arai XD4 in LARGE (like my Shoei) and felt a hard pressure point in my forehead (too hard of a pressure to take for hours at a time). Then, I ordered and installed the thinner confirm liner available for sale but the pressure persisted. I returned both the LARGE helmet and the comfort lining and reordered the helmet in X-LARGE and found it to be a bit loose. Then I installed the 10mm thinker comfort liner type IV and made the fit a little bit better and I decided to keep the helmet but after much use I realized the Arai shell is not the best fit for my head. Shoei on the other hand fits perfect. In conclusion I think the XD4 is great but L is too small for me and XL is too big for me. thankfully Revzilla customer service was amazing and made the process very easy. July 26, 2016
Great helmet. Solid helmet. A bit noisy and has drag going over 60,but it breathes and is comfortable (even with Houston's humidity). I would recommend it. Fit is snug, as it should be. Make sure to know your size. July 26, 2016
Very comfortable Great helmet! Excellent field of vision and super light. July 26, 2016
