Arai XD-4 Flare Helmet

The Arai XD4 is world renowned for being the one of the best ADV touring helmets on the market and one of the few that achieves a Snell M2010 safety rating. The XD4 incorporates all of the same great qualities found in Arai's other helmets including the comfort liner and cheek pads that feature 5mm peel-away pads that allow riders to tailor the fit. The shell of the XD4 has also been aerodynamically tuned and, in concert with the removable floating peak visor, funnels air into the redesigned vents, improving overall ventilation and mitigating buffeting at speed.

The XD-4 is the helmet of choice for many hardcore ADV enthusiasts and sets an industry standard for comfort, quality and safety.

  • Comfort headliner, with micro fitting 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Fully removable/replaceable/washable Interior: Comfort head liner, Cheek pads, Chinstrap covers
  • Dry-Cool technology keeps you dry and cool for greater comfort
  • Patent pending, FCS (Facial Contour Support) cheek pad design, also with a 5mm peel away micro fit feature
  • Improved shell shape for better aerodynamic stability at higher street speeds
  • Exhaust ports added to the top diffuser vents
  • Chin vent with more intake ports
  • Larger sculpted side cowl vents improve ventilation
  • Snell M2010 approved

Arai XD-4 Flare Helmet 4.7 5 260 260
Best Helmet i ever have Best helmet i ever have, Arai is the best, Good shape, good weight November 24, 2015
Great vision and comfort As a hi-end product it fully meets my expectations. As a known strong and safe helmet in combination with great vision and comfort I think this is key points to a good helmet. This helmet gives the kind of comfort which makes it a thrill to wear it for the hole day. It also has good build quality and functionality, As for Scandinavian cold weather trips It also gives no issues really, fogging down the visor is at a minimum. This style of helmet gives some distance between your face and the inside of the visor, could give reflections if you use glasses. On the other hand using glasses in this helmet gives you no gnaw or pain, fits perfect with glasses. The helmet gives some noise in speeds above 110 km/h but less than expected from this style of helmet. If you want to spend the extra buck, this is the way to go! November 23, 2015
First helmet - Arai Perfection! This is my first helmet, the Arai XD-4 Solid Pearl Black, and I was admittedly worried about spending so much for a helmet without any prior experience. Having just purchased a 2015 WR250R I wanted something for the dual-sport nature of my new bike. I also wanted something from a rock solid, proven company backed by years of reliability and safety. With the reputation of Arai and the fact they had the dual-sport XD-4 helmet it was naturally the first helmet I looked into. Everything about the helmet "on paper" I liked. It has style, elegance and a nice sportiness to it I liked. My problem was none of the local shops carried a helmet in stock to try on and at over $500 bucks its a hard swallow. One place had an internal shell from an Arai and the guy said they were incredibly strong and well made. At 190Lbs, I stood up on the shell and jumped roughly 16-18 inches up and landed on the shell without it breaking or deforming. It remained rigid and firm as I landed on it. My head measures 22.5" or 57.5cm and looking at the Arai helmet sizing chart put me right at a medium. The week before taking my BRC course I had some unknown full face helmet in size large that was quire tight. Regardless I took the sizing chart on faith and ordered the Arai XD-4 in Medium. Note here also that I had read the XD-4 has a more general oval shape without removing any of the internal fit pads and i have an oval face/head. On receiving the XD-4 I can say the fit was perfect! It was initially quite snug! I really had to pull it down over my head however after a couple rides and a few hundred miles the pads have shaped to me perfectly and is now extremely comfortable. Really like the emergency cheek pullout pads! These help Emergency responders immensely when helmet removal is needed after an accident and should be in every helmet today. NOTE: I Wear Eye-Glasses and while you need to remove them each time you put the helmet on or take it off, they fit perfectly. Yes there is that word again however its almost like there are slotted groves in the padding because they slide on/off easily, never catch on anything and there is never any force pressing them against my head. I have 2 sets with straight arms and another with curved arms that wrap around my ears. Both fit with 100% comfort and zero issues. The front shield clicks closed firmly and remains so until opened. There seems to be centered open position where the shield can be adjusted about 1" however it puts the bottom edge at my eye level so useless to me. The shield opens fully and stays open securely and doesn't drop. Also the visibility range is amazingly wide, clear and true. I've yet to see any distortion I've heard of in some other shields. The top visor is easily adjusted with a coin or flat screwdriver and seems to be well built. It is designed to break free so be aware of that if you ride where it may be hooked or commonly bumped. I adjusted mine downwards fully and seems to be perfect for my use. Road noise is not bad and have zero complaints about it. Putting around on side/back roads its fine and when out on the highway pulling 70mph its a bit noisy bit closing the chin and brow vents 1/2 way and pulling the chin deflector down seemed to help. ALL the vents open and close securely with a positive feel. The brow vents have a 1/2 open and full open setting and I really like how it directs air over my forehead and not directly onto me. Top and back vents are easy to use and provide great venting. Being able to adjust the front chin vent to either come directly through to the face or redirect internally along the cheeks is very nice as well. I DO WISH there was a filter of some type inside the chin vent! With it directly open I hit a large swarm of gnats and well.. they don't taste that great! ;) Aside from that I cant say anything bad about the helmet. I am extremely happy with the purchase and can happily join the ranks of many many many Arai supporters! It certainly isn't cheap however the last thing you want an injury to is the head. Money well spent I believe! If you are on the line thinking about this helmet stop thinking and just order it! October 29, 2015
Arai quality, what else needs to be said? this is my 4th Arai, and coming off the back of an XD3, some of the new features appear to be quite nice. I like the larger buttons for the top intakes, and the addition of the brow vents to the line. Fit is the same as the XD3, and the metal flake in the black helps the lid look extra pretty :D It's pretty much everything I've come to expect from Arai, and if it fits your head shape and like the style, I absolutely recommend it. comfortable It's very comfortable and the ability to remove 5mm of padding made it even better as it was a little tight on the cheeks. Air flow is great, very stylish. Just a really nice helmet and worth the money. I wish the Arai logos were a little smaller though. October 12, 2015
Best helmet I've ever owned Love it, great helmet. Fit is excellent. Quiet, and well made. Spend the money it is worth it. October 5, 2015
Arai... Enough said ! Aria helmets have a "feel" to them ,that sets them apart from the other high end helmets. I bought this helmet and immediately removed the peak. I have no need for it as I only ride on the street. I love the extra wide vision from it. Vents great and can actually feel the air moving across your head. Had no fogging issues at all what so ever. Liner is very comfortable and my 23 inch head fit great in a large. I ride a R1200gs Lc and an 2006 street glide. Helmet "goes" great with both. September 14, 2015
perfect fit Tried the Shoei in MED but it was too tight in the cheeks. 23"head fit fine, but even after ordering the XL cheekpads, it was still too tight and I realized that it tickeled my regulation moustashe...no way I could stand that and after 50 years, not shaving it either! No problem with the Revzilla return. Ordered the Arai XD-4 Hi-Viz also in MED and......it fit PERFECT! Sure, it's snug, but not painfully so like the Shoei was. More room in front of the stash too. Bottom line is that the Arai MED runs a bit more spacious than the Shoei MED, at least for my head. JD September 12, 2015

peder k: Have a 9 year old XD which has served well but time to retire it. Arai XD is a perfect fit for my head and beautiful quality. Arai is the only helmet line, street and dual sport, that I trust with caring for my melon. Sep 24, 2015
O Mitchell S: The XD-4 is a great helmet. May 25, 2015
R O: This is my second XD4. The first one suffered a couple of encounters with the floor while my head was inside and I felt the need to replace it.
Very comfortable and on the light side, the only problem is that the shield fogs easily wich forces to open it a bit.

peder k: I wear polarized prescription sunglasses every day with my XD-4. No distortion or internal reflections. This is my second XD and without a doubt, it is the highest quality, best designed helmet I have had. Oct 18, 2015

A shopper asked: How quiet is the XD-4? I have a Hornet DS and a Shoei-GT Air.. the DS is really quiet loud and I'm after something that is as quiet as possible. The benchmark of quiet for me is the GT Air.

Stephen S: My XD-4 is pretty quiet for a dirt style helmet. When I initially wore the helmet there was some low toned noise caused by the visor vibrating in the wind when I was traveling above 60 mph. I placed some stick on tire weights to underneath the front of the visor and it stopped the vibration. After that its been fine. I still wear ear plugs when I do any long distance street rides. I ride 50/50 road/dirt roads on my KTM 1190R. Other than that its a great helmet, very comfortable for all day rides. Oct 8, 2015

Rob W: I'm not sure how it compares to the GT Air but I think the XD-4 is pretty quiet. Probably not like the GT due to the visor cutting through the wind but I have no complaints. It's a great lid with nice fit and finish. I don't think you can go wrong with the Hornet or XD just personal preference.
Good luck and happy hunting

A shopper asked: I have the Shoei Hornet and love the ventilation, fit and wide view. What it lacks is a quick release face-shield and a face shield detention that allows it to be opens slightly for more ventilation at times. Tell me about the new Aria DS on your website? Aug 20, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David S: I rode with an Arai XD-3 for a few years. I needed to replace the helmet after a few off road mishaps. I heard good reviews for the Shoei DS Hornet and gave it a try. It was a big let down coming from the XD-3. The XD-3 ventilation is much cooler. The XD-3 faceshield can be opened slightly to allow for a little ventilation or to unfog the shield. Also, the visor on the Shoei is so high it's never in your field of view and does NOT shield the sun even if you tilt your head forward. I just bought a new XD-4 and so far I'm very happy I did. Yes, it's expensive...but it's the best DS helmet out there. If you can afford it...BUY IT. Aug 29, 2014
